mailto in Firefox 9
I don't have the option to use Outlook under Options-Applications-mailto.
It has no webmail option.
I don't want to use Outlook I want to use a webmail service, Yahoo or Gmail.
These used to be offered as an alternative, why not more.
I expect to have the freedome choose a webmail service.
Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder.
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Resetting_download_actions
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: opens showing the file
If that didn't help then reset the mailto prefs on the topic: config page.
To open the topic: config page, type Subject: config in the address bar (address) and press the 'Enter' key, as you type the url of a Web site to open a Web site.
If you see a warning so that you can confirm that you want to access the comments: config page.
Use the filter at the top bar of the on: page config to more easily spot a preference.
Filter: mailto
Preferences that have changed also show "BOLD" (user set).
- Preferences can be reset to the default value using the context menu if they are set of users
- Preferences can be changed via the context menu: Edit (string or integer) or turn (Boolean) or by double clicking on the line with the pref

How can I add hotmail to mailto in firefox 10?
I tried to use the old method suggested for firefox 3 http://www.computercorrect.com/2011/desktop-applications/firefox/adding-services-for-mailto-links-in-firefox/
but it no longer works I prefer not having an addon/plugin for this then, how can I change this in firefox 10.
Set the pref gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost true on the subject: config page.
Run the code through the (Firefox/tools > Web Developer) notebook (SHIFT + F4) or the Web Console (Ctrl + Shift + K)
Paste the JavaScript code in the code window into Notepad and run the code via "run > Run" or paste the code into the command line in the Web Console press ENTER to run the code.
Don't forget to reset the gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost "BOLD" false after you add this email provider.
navigator.registerProtocolHandler('mailto','http://mail.live.com/secure/start?action=compose&to=%s','Live Mail');

When I'm on a Web site, when I try to use the e-mail address provided in the contact section of the website whatever, I'm on, as soon as I click on the link to contact this person or persons, it will immediately move to Google Chrome, rather than continue to use Firefox, even though I have Firefox set as my default browser.
Someone suggested that I go to my control panel and make sure that Firefox is selected, I went there to do this, set it as default and checked what it says under Chrome while I was there for. He said Chrome I have 1 default on 20. I went to see what it was. He has access to HTML, or whatever that one is (I can go back and get the full name if necessary) why would they automatically this default value assigned to them? I could not not - select this option for Chrome, it was not possible to for change, it is mandatory?
Is this what can I do to configure Firefox for all the default settings?

System default mail client (Thunderbird) does not appear in mailto applications.
I use Thunderbird as the application mailto in Firefox. The only options listed for mailto are GMail, Yahoo mail, always ask and choose application. Use default does not appear.
I solved this. By clicking on "other use" in applications of mailto, 'Cancel' when a window opens to select the application, and then clicking on one application other than mailto, and the e-mail client default system is selected. A user little seems hostile. I use Firefox 24 under Ubuntu 13.04 BTW.

How to configure Hotmail as the default mailto simply, without gobbildy-gook
I use Windows7 and Hotmail in Firefox yet it cannot default as my mailto. I saw gecko etc. and that's the bit of java that does nothing.
Y at - it anyone who can solve this simply, I used an app before but I can't find it now.
Be specific in your instructions. Please, I beg you.Hmm, after all that, I noticed an extension that does this is a whole other way: it changes the links in the page of mailto links (Firefox turns to a mail Manager) to Live Mail make up links. I have not tested myself: Live Mailer.

If I click on a link email on ANY website in Firefox... nothing happens. Firefox and Thunderbird are by default, and double checked the mailto in Firefox.
Another browser... everything works great!
How can I fix it?
You can type mailto in the filter at the top of the about: page config to see prefs Network.protocol - handler. *.

I had some problems with mailto in firefox, and I tried to fix it so I am able to send mail from gmail when I click on a mailto link:... link. However, I managed to solve the problem so that when I click on such a link firefox reacts now (before that nothing happened so I changed an option in about: config), but during the process, I accidently deleted the Gmail entry in options-applications for the mailto protocol. Is there a way how I can restore it?
Did you remove the file in the Firefox profile folder

I can't click on links email on all pages. It causes Firefox open multiple tabs a lot, a lot, I can't close. My only recourse is to exit Firefox and restart it. It happens most of the time, while for clicking an e-mail link I have to open another browser altogether.
Check the application of Mailto in Firefox > Preferences > Applications
Make sure it is not set to the Firefox application.

Firefox launches Zimbra Desktop for mailto links
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Core 2 Duo
Run Firefox 26.
Installed Zimbra Desktop Email client, when I click on mailto links, it offers only Yahoo and Gmail.
In IE and other programs Zimbra launches when I use these programs messaging features.
Zimbra is set to the default e-mail client.
Also curiously the download button in the upper right does not work, I can see downloads but when I click the button nothing.
Usually Firefox will be check out your email client by default in the registry or a good highlight.
Sometimes the file that stores the file associations is damaged with updates and either conflicting entries correctly. The solution is simply to rename the file and have Firefox regenerate. If you want to try, here's what you do.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.
Leave this window open, wwitch back to Firefox and output
Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old
Restart Firefox. I hope that now Zimbra is detected and you can select. Please note that if you already changed your configuration to a PDF file from the viewer into another, you have to change it again.

Firefox version 12 application MAILTO doesn't work do not
Applications of FF12 using the "MAILTO" does not
My application is supposed to generate an e-mail message and put it in the Outbox. Version 12 Firefox stops with a Google search page with the MAILTO info in the search field. FF and TB are default
This application has since worked on version 3 ff.
No other changes have been made to my PC, two except version 12 of loading. Go back to version 11 and I have no problem.
Perform a Google search, I see that applications using the option "MAILTO" is a big problem with Firefox version 12. See http://boardreader.com/thread/Firefox_and_Email_problem_9rc6X2c9zx.html as well as others.
I reload the version 11 and I have no problem.
I use Avast AIS (including malware/firewall software) on a PC & MSN MSE on another (windows 7 64) (both have the same problem)
