Malware can be transmitted through any USB devices

Hello

Please excuse me if this is a silly question... I remember reading an article on the possibility of USB devices (such as keyboard, mouse, lamp) from malware if the QA on the device has not been made properly.  I know that it happens for USB drives, but I'm not totally convinced that he might happen to keyboard, mouse, switch KVM etc..

I'll share my keyboard and mouse between two PCs using a KVM switch.  One of the PC is very old and I don't know if it's totally clean or not, so I just wanted to know if it is a good idea.

Thank you very much.

You cannot transfer malware using a keyboard or a USB mouse. You should feel comfortable using the KVM switch. However, if your old computer is on the same LAN as your new computer and file sharing / printing is enabled, make sure that both computers are clean in all cases.

  • Windows crashes when any USB device is connected

    Hello

I have a laptop Dell Latitude D505 with Windows XP. Recently, whenever I plugged in a USB device, Windows would freeze and I have to hold the power button down to turn it off.  Since then, I tried to replace the RAM, re - install Windows on a new HARD drive and taking the other components (Wi - Fi, CD). I still don't understand why it freezes. Any ideas?
    Thank you very much!

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to your computer, after which the issue started?
    2. have you tried to connect USB devices to a different USB port? If so, they work on other ports?
    3. have you tested the USB devices on another computer?

Uninstall and reinstall the usb host controller driver and check if the problem persists.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/283658

I would recommend that you update your BIOS and drivers from the chipset and check if the problem persists.

    WARNING OF THE BIOS:
Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    Hello

Have you noticed yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager next to USB host controllers?
    Check it!

Even if the yellow exclamation points are not visible in the Device Manager I recommend to remove the USB host controllers and root device manager USB hubs and restart the laptop again.
Wait that all USB controllers will be recognized by Windows and retest your external USB devices.

  • How to access any USB device in LabVIEW?

I have Labview 8.5.It has a few blocks to directly control the port series, but I don't see ANYTHING to let me control devices connected to the USB ports. When you use the functions VISA the USB port is not available in the control of VISA Resource Name list. I have a device with a USB port. I would like to transfer data to and from the device via USB using LabVIEW.Does anyone has any suggestions for how I can access the USB port in a way that will allow LabVIEW communicate directly with the device connected to the USB port?

  • Windows recognizes most any USB device into a port any.

Hi, my problem started as my Logitech Wireless Mouse M187 has not been recognized by Windows7. A box came to say A key USB has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize... Initially, the problem disappeared when I turned off for a while, then restarted. Now 3 days later he's back. Windows doesn't recognize any device in any port. I tried my printer and modem mobile broadband with the same answer. I uninstalled all USB host controllers and restarted them but there is nothing. Any advice would be appreciated.
    brencoz

It looks like a hardware problem. Start by unplugging everything what is not necessary, leaving nothing but your keyboard, mouse and monitor. See if one of the ports work now.

It is quite possible that you encounter a heat problem. If this is a desktop computer, remove the side of the housing to blow any dust, animal hair, etc. that may be on the blades of the fan and the heat sink. Don't forget that there is enough space around it for good circulation.
If it's a laptop, use a can of compressed air to blow the dust of aeration.

Leave the PC turned off, for a good, sit while to make sure that it is at room temperature. Turn it on and immediately check the USB port. The device works as it should? Leave the PC on during some time and look at a port. If this does not work after warming up well, then you have certainly a hardware problem, probably the side power on the motherboard. You may have watched it professionally :-(

  • Why can't connect through a USB port?

When you use USB, I can't get my device is displayed in the preview of the device Panel and the iOS overview application does not display the preview image.

If you use Windows, iTunes must be installed on your PC to the USB of the preview to work.  Connectivity USB of Preview is based on the Apple USB driver installed by iTunes. iTunes is installed on Mac by default. To verify that the Apple USB driver works correctly, connect your device to your computer and verify that you can see your device in iTunes.  If you can see your device in iTunes and still can connect using Preview, then try to temporarily disable your firewall software and see if the preview can connect. If disabling your firewall allows Preview to work, go into the settings of your firewall and see if an extract is blocked.

Can I add this USB device to my virtual guest later in VMware Player?

I feel like the installation of VMware Workstation for just add this USB device installation. I have no experience of using VMware Player. I've always had of VMware Workstation to support me in everything I've done, that's why I ask.

I can only imagine that maybe VMware Player will limit to deal with the addition of devices/units, but what is the truth?

Peripheral USB themselves act as plug-and-play.  As long as you have configured the virtual computer to have a USB controller and have installed the drivers (via VMware Tools) in the comments, you can attach any USB device to the guest with workstation, player, server, Fusion, etc..

Workstation already includes the UI player interface so that you can test your VMS how they will be displayed to users who have installed Player.  There should be a shortcut installed for it.  You can run your VM via player INTERFACE and to answer to your question here, I think.
