How to manage startup programs if Windows Defender open habit?
When I try to change startup programs, I get an error Windows Defender message: 0x800106ba when I click on the link to open Windows Defender. It used to open this way recently and I read that it might have something to do with other antivirus programs. I was not able to open Windows Defender for the month from the list of programs, but I've always been able to open it when I try to change startup programs, until, like yesterday. I tried running it as administrator and also to open it in the location of the file, but I get the same error message. So, how can I manage my startup programs? Windows Defender is not yet in the list "uninstall programs", but it's in the start menu.

You can use msconfig or the program below.
And search for particular software tools > Options re start.

This utility, which has a knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs configured to run at system startup or login and that the entries in the order of processing windows. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell, toolbar extensions, helper objects to the browser, Winlogon notifications, auto and many start-up services even more. Manage startup programs to improve performance
I have a new laptop HP HDX16t (p/n NK133AV) and would eliminate the unncecssary startup using MSCONFIG, but needs a credible reference programs to let me know which ones I can kill. Just to let you know, I'm aware of article HP 'Increasing System Performance without adding memory in Windows Vista', but it says "when in doubt on a task, note the name and do a search on the Internet". Well, it's not too useful, because it's a large network out there with a lot of junk, a lot of ulterior motives. I also know the HP article on the use of MSCONFIG in Windows Vista and it is useful by offering a few items NOT to remove, but it does not address one bunch of others that came loaded on the laptop. An expert tell me or point me to a credible list of theses applications that will help me decide who I can remove it? Thank you very much.
.HP MediaSmart TV (I don't have a tuner) - remove this boot
HP Wireless Assistant - you can remove this if you are not using a wireless
Java Platform SE 6 U15 - remove this boot
Application of StartMen - it is a part of the Cyberlink software. Remove this start
MUI StartMen Application (appears twice in MSCONFIG) - it is a part of the Cyberlink software. Remove this start
MUI StartMenu application (appears twice in MSCONFIG) - it is a part of the Cyberlink software. Remove this start
Adobe Acrobat (is this just for updates?) - remove this boot
HP Quick Launch buttons - if you want to use the line of keys available above the function keys, you need it, otherwise you can remove the Starter
CyperLink MediaLibrary Service - remove this boot
CyperLink PowerCinema - he remove from startup
HP DVDSmart - you can delete this if you do not want to start this application on the insertion of a DVD.WMPNSCFG - wmpnscfg.exe is used to alert the user when a new media device is on the network. It is a sort of Autorun feature to check if the inserted device has songs or film, then launch Windows Media Player as a result. I would not recommend it for starting. However, I would leave it up to you.
Windows Defender - if your system is protected with any other Antivirus software, you can disable it.
Although I am an employee of HP, I speak for myself and not for HP.

How manage/remove startup programs in Windows 7
Crikey!
You people are things made and actions 'hard '!
With "how manage/remove programs startup in Windows 7?",...
Everything I've ever done is to find the startup program (in the "All programs" list, have a good overview of what is there, then, VERY SIMPLY, remove those I don't want to open at startup.)
When THIS is done, the program (s), I have DELETED does NOT start.
At the start, never!
Period!
Some software packages will place their TITLE... at the beginning, without your consent.
And, it's 'how' I get rid of them. I have this same title... in the "All programs" list, in any case!
Autoruns is a great program for geeks, but for the average home user it generates so much information it can be a nightmare.
Stick to the MsConfig - Startup tab in a 1st time, but start in programs and features when cleaning. You don't need to worry about something in the boot if you can remove the program anyway.
Printer drivers HP is a good example. Many have their program of customer Participation and the consumables installation order plated on by default, but for the majority of users, as they are not necessary. Despite a message claiming that, on the contrary they do not affect printer operation at all.

Management in Win7 startup programs?
I bought a new computer and it came with Win7 (from my old computer on Windows XP). I'm still trying to learn and master the features. A domain, I need advice-I have a number of programs that appears to run at startup and I need to know where to look for that turn. I looked in the areas of program Options, but don't see anything. In Windows XP, in control box "RUN", you had the MSCONFIG and Services.msc programs that you could go through all the startup programs. Where is this same ability in Win7? I don't see the "Run" command in the Start Menu?
Thank you
gumboman
You can use the serch window as the run command, or...Help & Support:That became the command run?The run command no longer appears on the start menu in this version of Windows. The search box that appears in the start menu provides much of the same functionality as the command run. However, the command run is still available if you prefer to use. You can even add it to the start menu for easier access. To add the run command to the start menu
Click to open the taskbar and Start Menu Properties.Click the Start Menu tab, and then click Customize. In the list of options on the start menu, select the command box run and then click OK. Run the command will appear on the right side of the start menu.Tip: You can also access the command run by pressing the logo Windows + R key. -

Will probably want to clean this machine...
Search for malware:
Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:
Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)
Search online with eSet Online Scanner.
The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:
Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know usingGoogle (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.
You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:
-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file. You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...
1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
2. click on the System Restore tab.

-Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
