Manually change the MAC address

Hello

a client needs to keep the same MAC address for a virtual computer in its vCenter to import into his org in vCD.

Because this server has an application and that its license is tied to the MAC address, they must keep the original MAC address. I know that I can make this request on vCenter, but not through vCD.

Is there some sort of workaround?

Thank you.

Raffaello

Maybe you can try to do it with PowerCLI.

Here's a thread where he describes how to change the MAC address of a computer virtual via PowerCLI. I hope this helps.

    Currently, I have seen, that the recent version of Virtual Box allows you to manually enter the MAC address

    So my opinion, the possibility of lock-out to COMPLETELY change the mac address of the virtual machine,

    must be activated again for all versions of VMware, as it is the option with other software.

    HM?  As far as I know, we have not added any restrictions.  We do not provide a user interface for it, but manually modifying the .vmx file and change ethernet0.addressType and ethernet0.address to a MAC from another provider address seem to work for me.

    Removal and addition of the vswif of the service console should generate a new MAC address.

    Note the detail.

    esxcfg-vswif vswifN d

    esxcfg-vswif - a n-i < IP > < vswifN > < portgroup > Pei, netmask

  • WGA600N and change the MAC addresses wireless! Grrr!

    The exec summary: why in fire the wireless MAC address changes with each power cycle? It can be stopped?

    The rest of the story: just got my adapter and had problems he connect my Linksys WRT110. Discovered the hard way that the MAC address on the label is the * wired * address, not the wireless MAC address. Has been able to configure the adapter and use the admin software to watch the Mac wireless. I plugged this address into my WRT110 that has the MAC address filtering turned on. Smart card, life was good.

    Unplug the adapter and it moved to its final location. Plugged in, no connection. Received a computer laptop and connected to the card, and this amazed my eyes see but the wireless MAC address has changed with the power cycle! Unplugged the card even once, waited a few minutes, then plugged in. The wireless MAC address verified again and of course, once again changed.  When did it become an acceptable practice?

    It is of course difficult to use the card in an environment with MAC address filtering turned on. Is it possible to prevent this address change?

    Thank you

    Found the answer - the wireless adapter takes the MAC address of the device, it is well plugged. Interesting.

  • Photosmart HP 6520: lost my photosmart 6520 by manually changing the server address

    Hello
    My printer is connected wireless and prints well by AirPrint and when I send it jobs by email, but after successfully scanning to e-mail several times it suddenly wouldn't connect to the Internet, which gives an error message. Tried to turn it works several times. Leva help on the forum and follow-up of boards to manually change the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 another server. This resulted in my losing access to my printer via his IP on my browser so I can't undo my actions and my printer always gives the error message when I ask him to scan to e-mail. All other functions work.
    Help, please. Thank you

    Hey @Kybosh,

    Welcome to the Forum from HP Support.

    I understand that you are having connectivity problems with your HP Photosmart e-all-in-one 6520, printer.  I want to help you with this.

    I'm surprised that a manual DNS has interfered with your setup - I think generally it does the opposite and enhances connectivity.  In any case, do not despair!   I have some suggestions that can restore the features of your printer.

    I recommend a fresh start by restoring the default settings of your printer to avoid any persistent configuration problem.  Here's how:

    • Front panel of the printer, press the key
    • Touch tools
    • Touch Restore Factory Defaults
    • * Note that this will reset your settings wireless and webservices.  If you have an address custom ePrint it is deleted permanently.  Click here for more information about setting up a custom address ePrint.

    With your restored default settings, continue on as indicated:

    • Touch the wireless icon ()
    • Run the Wireless Setup Wizard and reconnect to your network (SSID)
    • Enter the wireless password if prompted
    • Once you have created a wireless connectivity, reactivate your webservices/ePrint feature (essential for the use of scan to e-mail)
    • Tap the icon of webservices ()
    • Enable Web services and press OK to enable your printer will automatically update
    • Once completed, it will print a page of information.  If you are looking to complete an ePrint installation, it will be useful later - click here for more information.

    Now, if all goes well you can rebuild your Setup email scan:

    • Tap the scan icon
    • Tap the scan to E-mail
    • Enter your personal email address
    • Retrieve the PIN code of your Inbox
    • Enter the PIN on your requested to complete printer installation

    The above restore the functionality you were missing?

    Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  If I helped you to solve the problem, feel free to give me a virtual h.o.t. by clicking on the 'Thumbs Up' icon below.

    Please post in the Forum of HP's Support and have a great day!

  • Manually change the IP address on 8500 A909g

    After the 8500 A909g printer has been turned off for a few days, the program on my computer HP solutions Center portable 32-bit Vista now displays a message 'disconnected '. The IP address is now 169.254.184.17

    By HP, troubleshooting instructions and messages in this forum, paste this IP address in the address bar of IE or Firefox only returns with "page not found". Downloaded and run the HP diagnostic utility, but it did not detect the printer even though I tried several buttons refresh or other buttons on the screen 'advanced tools '.

    Tried to change to a static IP address to the printer via the front panel of the printer (configuration-> network-> Advanced Setup-> IP settings-> manual) but ran into an obstacle because I can't change successfully '184' to a '0' or the 174' to a single digit for the sequence with the IP address of 192.168.0.1 Dlink router

    The window of manual reset IP address has only the number keys and no button 'Clear' or 'delete' to get rid of the extra numbers.

    I'm not computer literate, so I do not understand why another round of office seems to print just fine with a completely different performance of IP address for the printer, one that falls not in the familiar format 4 part mentioned above.

    I was able to create an address IP of DHCP reservation on my router and the printer works now. I'm a bit difficult to know if I should also go to the Web server embedded HP to change the networking > connections > Wired > Setup manual IP address and enter the IP address/Subnet Mask / Gateway default numbers printed on the HP Network Configuration Page that I printed in the menu touchscreen printer. I have to also then change from automatic to manual DNS server?

    Thanks for any further help.

  • Change the mac address live vm

    Hello

    I installed a vcenter and migrated all the object from the old to the new, and I imported my dvswitch. After a problem due to the import, I migrated all the VM on dvswitch to a new, and I used code powercli to assign the new portgroup below:

    Function Set-dvSwitch {}

    Param ($vmName, $dvPG) # two parameters.

    $nic = "Network adapter 1" change in # this line if you want to change the NIC 2

    # Find the NETWORK card

    $vm = get - VM $vmName | Get-View

    foreach ($tempdev in $vm. Config.Hardware.Device) {}

    if($tempdev.) DeviceInfo.Label - eq $nic) {}

    $tgtdev = $tempdev

    }

    }

    # Find the dvSwitch & dvPortGroup

    $esx is get-view-Id $vm. Runtime.Host

    {foreach ($netMoRef to $esx.Network)}

    If {($netMoRef.Type-eq "DistributedVirtualPortGroup")}

    $net = get-view-Id $netMoRef

    if($net.) {Name - eq $dvPg)}

    $dvPGKey = $net. MoRef.Value

    $dvSwitchUuid = (get-View-Id $net.) Config.DistributedVirtualSwitch). Summary.Uuid

    }

    }

    }

    # Prepare Spec

    $spec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec

    $devChange = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualDeviceConfigSpec

    $devChange.operation = "Edit."

    $dev = new Object ("VMware.Vim" + $tgtdev. GetType(). Name)

    $dev.deviceInfo = new-Object VMware.Vim.Description

    $dev.deviceInfo.label = $tgtdev. DeviceInfo.Label

    $dev.deviceInfo.summary = $tgtdev. DeviceInfo.Summary

    $dev. Backup = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualEthernetCardDistributedVirtualPortBackingInfo

    $dev. Backing.Port = New-Object VMware.Vim.DistributedVirtualSwitchPortConnection

    $dev. Backing.Port.PortgroupKey = $dvPGKey

    $dev. Backing.Port.SwitchUuid = $dvSwitchUuid

    $dev. Key = $tgtdev. Key

    $devChange.Device = $dev

    $spec.deviceChange = $devChange

    $taskMoRef = $vm. ReconfigVM_Task ($spec)

    }

    It does the job, but he has changed all the MAC of my virtual machine. Currently, I have around 400VM with a MAC OS and another MAC on the side of vmware.

    The code above has changed vm MAC I would configure the old MAC on the vm side to avoid reboot all my VM.

    If anyone knows how to do this, it will save me.

    Thank you

    It should work, tested several times without problem (if your VM 1 nic, you need to identify that one to change to another)

    $thisAdapter = get-NetworkAdapter - Vm Test123

    $thisAdapter.ExtensionData.AddressType = "manual".

    $thisAdapter.ExtensionData.MacAddress = "00:40:16:96:0 d: 94.

    Together-NetworkAdapter $thisAdapter - confirm: $false

  • Command line method of specifying the MAC address for a guest

    Can someone tell me if it is possible to manually change the mac address for a guest the cli? I was hoping that vicfg-vmknic can have an option statically assign an address but it is not. Depending on the Server Configuration guide, you can set the via the customer of VI, but the cli method is eluding me. Reason for wanting to do this is for a static dhcp address assignment

    Another possibility - you can try VI Toolkit 1.5 which has a command called Set-NetworkAdapter, which allows you to set the MAC address.

  • Why is the MAC address Clone?

    When I disabled it Clone MAC address I lost access to the internet.

    Does anyone know why MAC address Clone is necessary and what it does?

    Clone MAC address changes the MAC address of the router on the internet port.

    You can use the function of the cloning MAC address to clone the MAC address of a computer if you used before your computer directly to the modem.

    Some ISPS (especially cable ISPS) only the customers to have an active internet connection at any time. To do this, check the MAC address, that is, they remember the MAC address that accessible line via the modem and lock the connection to this MAC address.

    If you test your internet connection directly with your PC first and then connect the router the router can not get an internet connection because the row is locked to the PC's MAC address. Now if clone you the address MAC from the PC on the router the router "pretended" to be PC and the ISP will accept traffic again.

    Usually, simply reset or turn on the modem to reset the lock again. Sometimes, you have to turn off the modem for a couple of hours (for example, through the night) after a few hours of inactivity the ISP removes the lock again. Sometimes call the ISP to remove the lock, but it's not very often.

    So basically, generally useless clone MAC address at all because you could accomplish the same thing by resetting the modem or it turned off for a few minutes. If you connect the router to the modem, ISP learns the MAC address of the router and it gets working internet connection. (Of course remember, that once a computer directly connected to the modem would not get active internet connection unless you change the MAC address of the computer to the MAC address of the router).

    But the function is useful if you do not want to. You simply set the MAC address of the connected device before, and you get a working internet connection.

  • Assign a static IP address via DHCP based on the Mac address of the virtual machine

    Hi all

    It is especially a feature request, as I'm sure that it is not currently possible to do what I want to do...

    I would like to be able to assign static IP addresses to VM without having to manually configure the network settings of the virtual machine directly. I want to be able to do it from the DHCP settings in the virtual network Editor.

    Most of the routers DHCP allow this. They give an IP address through DHCP based on the MAC address of the client. This means that the customer is concerned that he receives a regular IP DHCP address, but it is never change.

    DHCP is the default option for all OS this makes things much easier to manage, as IP addresses is assigned in the same way, in one place for all DHCP clients, regardless of the client operating system, and without having to manually keep track of which the IP is assigned to which customers etc..

    Also AFAIK at least for Ubuntu, you cannot assign a static IP address without having to also statically assign to the DNS server. It is only the IP address I need to be static, so I prefer not to have to worry about manually assign the DNS server.

    I can just kind of fudge making the really long DHCP lease duration, but the maximum is 99 days only, so finally addresses are going to change, that would mean a whole bunch of reconfiguration for VM services, etc..

    Does anyone know if the workstation 9 has this ability? I am currently on version 8, but I would probably upgrade this function only if she can do it.

    If there is no way to do what I want to directly through the virtual network Editor, can anyone recommend a way to do this, perhaps using Guest only network and then, by running a kind of services to the 3rd party NAT and DHCP on the host?

    Thank you

    Eugene

    There is no GUI option to get what you are looking for, but you can do it manually. Please take a look at Re: assign a static IP to guest with network adapter NAT Virt? where I posted an example.
