Master IDE HDD to slave in Dimension 5100 DVD burner

Hello

I just added a disk IDE (PATA) (jumper to master) to the same controller that my existing DVD burner, now set as slave. the two IDE channels is enabled in the BIOS and the hard drive passed Diagnostics.  But the new IDE HDD is not recognized by Windows, although it appears like a hard drive under Device Manager.

The recommendation of the forum seems to favor using an external HARD drive enclosure, but I'm not willing to do unless it's the only way to make it work.

What else is required to complete the configuration?  I am running XP Professional.

  • Dimension 3100, DVD burner?

    Hi all

New here and looking for some tips.

    Dimension 3100.

    Windows XP.

While the realization of this machine is pretty basic, l has recently got a camcorder and was wondering is it possible to host record-film on a DVD. Had no problem getting film on Movie-Maker and it looks good on the PC but would like to burn to DVD.

    Any response greatly appreciated...

  • To factory without recovery CD Dell Dimension 5100

My parents have a Dell Dimension 5100 with Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3.  It works well just very slow because it is clogged with old software and unwanted.  They want to give my grandmother to use, so I need to get done restore to factory settings, it's like a new computer for her.  However, we cannot find the CD that came with it (other than a resource CD).

Is there a way for this restore without CD?  I have the OEM code, XP product key, Service and Express Service Tag label.

I need to do this ASAP.  Grandmother's hard drive died yesterday, and already, it's called once today ask when it would be ready LOL.

Assuming that the hard drive has never been reformatted or replaced, you can reset the PC to the factory image by restarting and quickly by pressing the Ctrl and F11 keys and following the instructions.  EVERYTHING will be deleted including all personal files, so they must be backed up on an external first.

You must reinstall all updates from MS for XP (hundreds of them) and all your software and personal files after the restore, which could take days, depending on your internet connection speed.

Keep in mind that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and there are a lot of no fixed security problems. Thus, the PC might be infected very quickly if Grandma goes on the internet.

Maybe you should just buy him an inexpensive Inspiron with Windows 10 which will be much more secure and probably faster than the D5100.

I initially do not remember what the key of the OS has been but realized it was on the computer of the firm. I really appreciate your help. Is it right to mark your help as to solve the problem? And if you will pass this message on the forum of BONE would be great.

  • CD/DVD burner problems said that it is damaged or missing? Anyone has any ideas to help me solve this problem?

Hello, I'm trying to fix my burner but I tried to uninstall and reboot my computer to see if the problem might be to set but he told me that my driver cd is missing or damaged, and I don't know what to do besides put my computer back to factory settings. So if anyone knows something I can do like that I don't have to put it back to factory settings it would be great.

Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

Ideas: My CD/DVD burner does not work and it is said that it is damaged or missing. How can I fix it?

    • You have problems with programs
    • Error messages
    • Recent changes to your computer
    • What you have already tried to solve the problem

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

  • Portege 30xx Win2K - need to bus master IDE driver

    Hello!

Could not find the driver, tried all the sites of Toshiba. The works of 10 times slower than expected :(hard drive

    Help, please. Thank you.

    Best regards
    Vitaly

    Hello

Why are you suggesting that the HARD disk works 10 times slower than expected? Did you use the 3rd party diagnostic software?
Usually to the IDE of rally driver must be installed during the operating system installation procedure to install Windows. So I think tat you will find any driver IDE master bus on the Toshiba site.

  • Re [lacemant 'Master' IDE Slimline Optical drive Satellite Pro A120

    Hello

I am looking for a replacement CD for a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 (laptop) drive.
Been reading about this for awhile as it does not work I tried all IDE slimline drive replacements.

From my research, it requires a slimline IDE optical drive is "rider" to master.
Like its slimline there are select no riders while I am aware that they are made as master or cable.
They cannot be changed by flashing the BIOS or to make a weld, or they can be bought like that.

As I need a new in any case I would rather buy one that is guaranteed to be compatible.
Does anyone have an idea how to tell if slimline optical IDE drivers come as master or cable select?

Or a place to get the spare parts?
    I am also in England.

    Fine thanks
    Dan Gent

    > If only the people who make the readers have access to the file, I could use to Flash the ODD with?
Perhaps. Always is it that you need a compatible software/firmware that would change these settings.

You could try to buy a second hand car which has been mentioned in the user manual.
I downloaded from the Toshiba page and found these drives:

    Panasonic UJDA770TB-A
    TEAC DV - 28TH - RT4

  • install the new drive in slave. you want to transfer the OP for slave to the master drive. The slave to the master change and OP work, as did the master drive.

Hello, I install a new drive (slave at first) to be the master, after I transfer of windows on them. How can I transfer the data to the new disk that the operating system runs when the slave returned to be the master drive?

Go to your NEW Hard Drive from the manufacturer website.

They normally have available software cloning to transfer the operating system on a new hard drive.

    See you soon.

Hi guys. All of a sundden my cd/dvd has stopped working, I can't even see on the list from my computer. I get error 19 and I tried that everything listed here without success. anyone has an idea what shouldI do?

  • Do new HD SATA boot drive, makes existing corrupt SATA HDD in slave (Dim 4600)

I got the dreaded "Windows didn't start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM" message; When I boot on the recovery cd or chkdsk or restore the system registry hive backups worked.  Of course I've been lax with data backup, I have years of pictures of children on the hard disk, in the BACK I can navigate through folders with photos and they appear healthy and safe.  I'm afraid that going too far with reinstalling XP will jeopordizing the files, so I decided to install a new HD as boot drive and make the existing one a data drive (slave, secondary disk drive) and save the images and other data once I return.

TMI I realize - here are my questions

    1. it will work?

2 can I simply connect the new drive to J8G1 on the motherboard and move the existing drive from G1 to G2?

    3. can I use one of the cables that hang to the new HD?  (the existing one is plugged into a black connector P3, P5 black looks identical).

    4. should I run only the new HD for a while, then plug the old one back in?  Or it doesn't matter?  Other implicit messages of the system could have badly recognized both drives if I ruin this part.

5 will be any SATA disk that fits in the space doing case, or should I meet a min spec?  My inclination is to gravitate toward 'cheap' unless there is a reason not to.  Existing OEM HD is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160 gb SATA.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.
