Master password request (key ring)

Hello: Where is (and what is its name) the application (which stores all my passwords) located? I am looking for a password is stored in my laptop, so I can put this password in my office. I don't remember this password. Thank you. M_L_R

Thank you, Steve Winograd. Apple/Mac has a password native application storage. I assumed that Vista would be. Now I know that it is not, so I will stop the search. M_L_R

Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

See "basic troubleshooting: a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "tools > Modules > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If this new profile works then you can transfer files from the old profile to the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

  • HP spends request master password

I have a HP dv6-6c54nr Bit win7. My simple pass stopped working on windows months ago connection, I checked the control panel and that wasn't the problem. Now it does not work on half of the Web sites and when that happens he asked master password or windows. I think its time to uninstall and reinstall. Can anyone help?

    Hi Ned,.

You could well be right.  Same good software can corrupt to be on the system for some time.

If you can open the software at all, Please do an export of your webcards before you reinstall / repair software SimplePass.

    Export the Webcard database:

If you have working software SimplePass, export your Webcards before proceeding.  In the case where you must remove the SimplePass software, your webcard backup can be used (imported) to restore your Web site login information.

Start SimplePass > parameters > export NOTE: file will be called *.tsd

Try to repair the SImplePass software:

Control Panel > programs and features >

    Looking for this program:

    Right-click on HP SimplePass
    Select "repair".

    • Restart the system,
    • Log in with your password,

  • Master password is requested several times

I install Thunderbird to work with four (4) email accounts. Clean install. I then added a master password. Now when I run Thunderbird he asks after four (4) master password, but should ask only once.

It generates all four windows asking the password at the same time at startup. All emails are using IMAP. Two gmail, others are of the other provider. 8.1 Windows x 64. I found that this does not happen if in any account mail settings I untick "check new messages at startup '.

Thanks, but the add-on third party for security thingy doesn't sound so sure. I guess it's Thunderbird bug and I hope it will be fixed. For now I'll stay with unchecked "check for new messages at startup '.

  • The master password dialog box is not well labeled. No luck, it could be spoofed using JS and someone could then access all passwords?

IMO, request master password dialog box is not well labeled, and its identity (and authentic) seem a little in doubt whenever it appears. It is possible that someone could be spoof using JS and I could unwittingly put my "skeleton key" to a thief? Please tell me I'll be paranoid!

I don't think a script in an ordinary web page has the permission to read your passwords for other Web sites, even if you are not using a master password. It should be limited to see what password manager fills in the page.

For this reason, even if a page has captured your master password, I don't think that he could use it in a harmful way. But I'm maybe not quite devious.

  • Have you had experience with a XP application "master password", please help me if so.

My PC used for me (sometimes still don't) asked if to remember a password for a website.  I'm sure you've been asked this too. Often, when I was ask--that he would ask several times - I saidYes for many of my Web sites.

After a few weeks of use like this and a few sites passed. A prompt me a NEW FEATURE of Windows XP that would allow me to encrypt or make a unique password for when I wanted to, those already informed the STORED passwords, to be applied/used /-entered automatically was now available.

So I decided I would try the functionality and create the 'master' password, if you want to call it that.

Now the password doesn't work.  When I enter it in the field it just re-guest the same window, empty, as if I had done nothing.

Sometimes pressing the button cancel will do the same.

Suffice it to say this 'new', I think that this! Now it NEVER works as it should. (it occurs rarely)

I want to disable this security feature, but can NOT find and option that will allow me to do any where within the parameters of security controls.

IF anyone has HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS KEY - word of PAST PROGRAM/APPLICATION,PLEASE the HAND ME of SOME ADVICE.

  • Firefox ask you useless master password every time you start

When he started, Firefox asks unnecessarily my master password every time. My homepage (Google Finance) does not require a password. This occurs in SafeMode as well. It's annoying and time consuming. I X-out the main 10 seconds password request window after I start Firefox. Why would he do that? ... Firefox not used to do this.

    You use Sync?

The synchronization used in Firefox 34 version then use password manager to store the name (e-mail) and password to use to connect to the synchronization server.

Earlier versions of Firefox used to store these data in the signedInUser.json file in the profile folder, but the current version only stores the sessionToken in this folder and need the password for the password manager.

  • security breach critical firefox? does not require master password

I put with a master password in firefox. When I start the computer and firefox, it opens the browser to the way I saved him when I stopped. This includes the sites that require passwords. They all open with no password request. Then randomly at a time later asked me the master password. Shouldn't it ask the password first, before opening protected sites?

    It's a little complicated.

If you allow sites to set persistent cookies to keep you logged between sessions, Firefox never needs to use your password saved; you are already on each visit to both Firefox keeps the cookie (weeks, months or years depending on what the site specified).

Alternatively, if you limit the sites to the definition of session cookies, after you close Firefox, these cookies are normally deleted. But there is an exception for the windows and tabs you left pending.

When you restore a previous session, Firefox reverts this session cookies, including those you kept connected sites. Secure sites (HTTPS) are treated differently depending on when you restore your session:

    • When Firefox is set to start automatically with windows and tabs: secure session cookies are maintained and restored. Your registered username is unnecessary and not used.
    • When Firefox is set to start at the top with a home page, and you have the ability to restore your previous session manually: secure session cookies are ignored. You will need to identify yourself again.

So, if (1) allow you sites to set persistent cookies, or (2) have set to restore your previous session of Firefox, and you do not close the session, it would be normal that no logon is required when revisiting the secured sites.

To make sure that this does not happen, you have a few different options:

    (1) use only session cookies AND change some hidden settings to ensure that they are not saved when your session is restored; or

    (2) delete all cookies at the stop.

I can list for those steps if you are interested.

  • How to where I can create a master password?

I read on the master passwords and want to create a way to record safe passwords on different accounts. I can't find on my assus Tablet where to click to access the security settings page.

First of all, it will be in Firefox.

Second, on Android devices with a physical button menu, use the menu key, then settings.

If your device has a physical button menu, look for the icon in menu 3-stacked-points on the right end of the bar address, then settings.

    A little luck?

  • Master password does not work, it's because of my script add-ons-not ghostery, flagfox, better google yandex, like adblock, privacy, WOT?

    Hello Mozilla,

I have included the fundamental question in the previous question. I use the modules above on a browser to firefox via a macbook Intell. I also just reset my master password. I restarted firefox, connected to an online account to test, disconnected, and then reconnected again. After restart of firefox there is no prompt to enter my master password, there is a prompt asking me if I should include the word name and p of the user in the use of firefox master password. What, in your opinion is happening and how could it be solved? Of course, I would continue to use these modules.

If you delete the file signons.sqlite and key3db and set a new master password, then it should work correctly, especially in a new profile or with all extensions disabled.

Note that Firefox does not offer to store new passwords when you're in private browsing mode.

Sometimes a problem with hardware acceleration can make stop button password via the icon key in the location bar does not.

  • I need to take my computer at home, I use master password to keep the tech to see or am I better off to remove them?

My question, he said everything... If I use the master password it will keep a tech 'curious' out of my list of sites/usernames/passwords or should I remove all them after making a copy off the computer so that they do not have access? When the computer is returned I need to go to each site and re-enter the information

If you put a password, it must keep most of the curious people off your PC. Or, you can always just save your current profile on as a USB key, etc. Then delete your. When you get the rear PC, just put your old profile back. You can read back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox for instructions on how to do it.

  • Is there a way to disable the password manager in FF8, so he will not ask a master password

I like to keep the available (for some Web sites registered) password manager, but he don't want active all the time. When I opened a Web site, FF asks "master password for security". Most of the time, I simply cancel the request, but I'd rather not have to go through this step. The default value can be set to not ask?

You can enable or disable the passwords to remember for sites by triggering during the time you want to use password manager and allow it only if you need to connect to a Web site.

I do it with a toolbar button in the toolbar of the PrefBar I use (signon.rememberSignons).

  • I want to change password if ex is unable to read the messages without using Master passworde

Follow-up of your card. Try to change the previous password of xxxxxxxx to something my wife doesn't know. Has been advised to do so because of the coming divorce proceedings. Don't want to punch in a master password everytime I open Thunderberg. Can I change my password and how. I've been here a while try and it does not say how. Thank you

The master password in Thunderbird protects passwords stored in Thunderbird. It prevents anyone from reading mail already downloaded on your computer.
FYI: this is a public forum and view passwords lets everyone with your wife know what it is. Not very smart.
