MD3000 cannot change virtual disk ownership / preffered path - ERROR 29

Current configuration

PowerVault MD3000 (deleted by the moderator) - attached to two servers PowerEdge R610 using Dell SAS 5/e card in each r610. The R610s act as a host ESX VMWare ESXi 5.5.0

We have created multiple LUNS on the storage array and noticed that traffice all happening through a RAID controller or another module (and it seems to me not change without prompting when you look at the storage Bay). I turned off a two different virtual machines to try to change the path and had an error with a certain delay - I stuck this error below. I also tried to redistribute virtual disks tab the MDSM software nothing works support.

By reading, it seems that the LUN should be attributed to a particular raid controller before all I / 0, but I still feel like're missing us something as to why we cannot distribute the traffic properly.

According to some records for a MD3200 -.

"If the host has a path of data unique to the MD, the virtual disk storage array.
must be owned by the controller to which the host is connected.
That's what we're trying to accomplish. I don't know if the hosts are to be physically detached from the SAN, or if there is a bit of software to fail us.
Thank you in advance! If I failed to provide all the details, please let me know and I'll try to gather the information.

Hello MrRedPants,

Since you are using a configuration not redundant you will have problems trying to modify the paths between the controllers since the two hosts have only a single connection to the MD3000.  What you could do if possible is to get 2 more SAS cables & connect ports second on the MD to RAID opposite that the host is currently connected to.

Now, if this isn't an option so that you can make is to have 2 disk groups and assign the virtual disks / LUNS that are connected to each host in their own disk group.  If you go to each host their own groups of disks, then you will need to stop the e/s as you move the Ramdisk to the new group of disks so that you want to discard any data loss.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • "Windows Firewall cannot change some of your settings. Error code 0 x 80070424 ' how to fix this?

I get this error: "firewall Windows cannot change some of your settings. Error code 0 x 80070424"when I try to turn on the Windows Firewall (Windows 7).  I am also unable to start my computer in safe mode.  My computer has been infected by the virus 'Win 7 Security 2012', which is what caused this damage to my system.  The virus also seems to have removed all the system restore points before the infection!  I believe that I have the virus completely deleted.  I used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, Kapersky Virus Removal Tool, antivirus Ati Avira (anti-virus program I was running when my computer has been infected by the virus) & Microsoft Security Essentials.  I ran the Scan SFC, a tool for emergency response Microsoft Support, Microsoft FixIt, ComboFix, & Tweaking.com Windows Repair all-in-One.  Repair Windows Tweaking.com seems to be turned Action Center back, where I now get a message that: "Windows Defender is turned off" & it does not seem to recognize MSE as my anti-virus program.  I need to know how to get Windows Firewall works again & get Action Center working properly again.  My computer has a partition with my Windows Recovery on it, but since I can't start in safe mode, I can not also start the restore partition to do a "repair" install, or even restore to factory settings!  Can anyone help?

Also, when I use a search engine on internet, I get re-directed to a site that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the result of the research, and I click on... I am not that so that is proof that the virus is not COMPLETELY gone or not.

  • Lightroom 4: cannot change to slide show Module - Get error has occurred when attempting to change the module

I have a new MacMini (2 months) with OSX 10.8.2 and 16 GB of ram. I had a partial re - installed, bringing more of my settings from my old computer (a MacBook Pro, 10.8.2)

4.3 Lightroom worked very well until I went to use the slideshow module.  I received an error message and the library module does not open.  Read the message "an error has occurred when attempting to change modules.

What can I do to fix this?

Here's what I've done so far:

    1. checekd the disk permissions and disk status - all ok
    2. check the integrity of my catalogs and saved them - all ok
    3. moved files preferably, ending with 'plist' from the root and user libraries - no change
    4. only moved to the folder of the user, to support / library/application - no change
    5. Checked and opened upward "privileges" on the files for the library files and the catalog files.  Checked 'apply to all files' - no change
    6. contacted one and Nik to see if they had heard of this problem - no, they didn't and don't think their programs could be the cause of this problem
    7. Contact Adobe - level 1 support - crossed some of the points above - no effect

I am waiting for a call from level 2 return to Adobe.  In the meantime, one has this problem or have any other suggestions.  The only alternative I have is to completely uninstall Lr and start again.  But it's a bit drastic.

    Thank you

This is a bug, usually related to having a second monitor attached.

Roll to 4.2 from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5487 - simply drag 4.3 to the trash, and run this installer.

  • MD1000 attached to MD3000. Virtual disk not on the preferred path

    Hello

I have a MD3000i box connected to 2 boxes of MD1000, these are connected to a Dell Power Vault Storage server 2003 running.

Last night I connected the 2nd MD1000 and added in 25 TB of drives worth. I had initially hurt mapping the new virtual disk after 20 minutes or so, I noticed that I had shot the Ethernet cable plugged into the Module Raid 0 by mistake. I plugged it back in and was able to map the drive and started the initialization of disks.

I came this morning to check how everything is done and found an error on the table. Disk not on favorite virtual path, preferred owner: at location 0 RAID Controller Module. Current owner: Module to slot 1 RAID controller. Group MD1000_2 of disc. Ramdisk: Virtual4.

Now, it seems that influence the new virtual disk that I created. I checked the path virtual disk property and all the other virtual disks are using path 1 and try that I created to use channel 0.

The virtual disk seems to be working for the moment it is detectable and to initialize itself in the area of operations of MDSM. I'm under pressure to get the space of storage as soon as possible, so I can't really afford to have to blow the virtual disk and restart the initialization. I'm hoping a simple reboot of the storage array will cure the problem, but I guess I can't do so until the end of the initialization of the disks. I could also remap the path to the virtual disk, but I saw online that it does not solve the problem, and I always have to wait until the initialization is complete.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

I deleted the disk group and created a new one that even once, did not help even after that I tried to change the path. I deleted again and created a new and then changed to RAID 1 controller quickly while he was still on the controller 0 (before it came with the failure of the path) as the preferred path that has cleared the error. There must be a mistake with the controller or the wiring to it.

    Thank you

  • Impossible to extend warm a virtual disk with VIC

When I change the properties of the guest in VIC esx 3.5 and try to extend the current virtual disk I get the error message "a general system error occurred: internal error.  I am trying to extend the partition D 1200 Go 1 300 Go and I have enough space for 1440 GB.  I was not able to try to extend the drive when the prompt is disabled, but as it is a critical server that requires little downtime. I am also able to expand virtual disks on the other guests, but not this one.  Suggestions as to how I can get this virtual drive to extend hot would be welcome.

You cannot extend a drive over 1 TB in gui in ESX 3.5... bug in vmware.  Take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1008528

What you need to do, is extend the command line in ESX.  To do this, you should close the virtual machine. 994 Ko has more details on that. Basically:

    Log in to ESX

    Stop the virtual machine

Use the vmkfstools command to extend the drive

    for ex:

    vmkfstools x 1300G

It's been a while since I did it, so please check me, but I'm pretty sure the syntax.

  • Increase the size of virtual disk Volume

If initially, I create a RAID10 array with four drives and install ESX3i, then later add two drives to increase the size of the RAID10 array, I can use the extra space for VMS ESX3i without erasing the data?

    Thank you!

    Bob HHSU

RAID10 on RAID5 due to performance. I 4x500Gb then RAID10 gives me about 1 TB usable, that should be enough space for a couple of years for my application

Okay, maybe that's true, but you are only working with a few axes.  RAID 10 in maybe 20 disks RAID 10 is perhaps better performance, but not big thing with only 2 pins.  If you don't have the space, very well.  I hope it works for you.

In addition, the machine has six spans and so I have the ability to add more than two readers and increase the table to about 1.5 TB. My dilemma is now maybe I should add plus two other readers from the beginning if ESX cannot cultivate virtual disks.

OK, then if you have disks now, why don't put you in now.  Even if you can grow the disk later, why re-work.  This seems really odd.  Do everything now and do it.  If you do not have to do it later.

VM the VMFS, correct? If I have too much space allocated to a virtual computer and he needs for another, I can reduce the allocation?

Yes, but again, it is more work.  Start small.  It is easier to add than SUBTRACT.  Start with only 50 GB, 100 GB.  OS file systems growth is much easier, the fight must convert a copy of the SAME virtual machine, which requires even more work...

  • Cannot change the size of the virtual disk in a converted VM

Hi, I have converted many physical machines into virtual machines using the VM converter. All off them were converted using the minimum for their HDs size so that the conversion process minutes last as little as possible. Because now there are in all readers of 'C' for all virtual machines only 1 GB of free space I want to resize their virtual disks. The problem is that I can resize them to a larger size, but Windows does not allow me to expand the volume inside Windows. When I want to expand the size of the Windows volume shows me a message saying "the selected volume is a system disk or a boot disk, or it was created in an earlier version of Windows, a basic disk. It cannot be extended.

I am attaching two files. The first is the configuration of the VM. The second is the error that appears inside of Windows. The message is in Spanish cause that Windows is in that languaje, but I have translated from English in the previous paragraph.

Is anyone of you know why this kind of errors appear? Does perform a work around? It seems that the problem is because the converted Convert the HD as a base virtual HD. In this format (Basic) Windows does not allow to expand. You have to change its format in Dynamics to develop, but when you try this error appeard.

The first work-around, I thought to do is to make a picture of this disc with Ghost and try to paste this image into a new hard drive for the virtual machine, but I don't know if it will work.

    Thank you.

    Warlock.

I have had success in utility Dell ExtPart help to resize on the fly without interruption of service to initialize volumes (drives C :).  Other methods such as attaching the drive as a data volume to another server or using GParted require at least downtime of this virtual machine and often down more than one time.  With ExtPart, I was able to avoid it completely.

Check out this blog for more information post:

  • Virtual disk MD3000i not on the preferred path

Our MD3000i rpet table is not optimal and that a virtual disk is not on the preferred path.

We have two RAID sets on it with a VD each.  The former says her favorite way is controller 0, the second said his preferred path is controller 1.  But the controller 0 like take charge of both.

Using MD storage manager, I can change VD2 owned by controller 1.   But in the current for the next several hours, it passes backward, and the MD3000i starts orange flashing again.

If I restart the server that is attached to it, the question usually begins without having to wait a few hours.

I changed out Ethernet cables, and it did not help.  Either way, it all started when we changed the MD3000i attached to hosts.  It was attached to two Dell servers, now it is only attached to one.

After looking through everything, it seems that the iSCSI initiator is configured incorrectly. It seems that you only have one configuration of IP and the MD has two available. Here is a link that has a step by step on setting up the MD3000i and the MPIO.

    http://paulgrevink.WordPress.com/2012/02/21/configure-Dell-MD3000i-MPIO-with-Windows-2008-R2/

I would like to know how this happens. Also the only link that you have custody fall itself which normally points to a network problem may therefore need to look in the configuration of the switch as well.

Cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/4e24c6fe-3c2ad61e-a57c-e4115bbbce6c/SNCTrillium/SNCTrillium-000003.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

I read upward through the knowledge base of VMWare on the modified files, but I've never had to do that before and I'm not sure about how to go on this subject as I've never used the vsphere CLI either.

I am currently using ESXi 5.0.0 with vsphere client 5.0.0. I've attached a screenshot of the error.

According to the snapshot between SNCTrillium - 000001.vmdk and the basic disk SNCTrillium.vmdk is broken, which means that the basic disk has been changed. I have attached an instant replacement for the SNCTrillium - 000001.vmdk with a fixed string that should allow you to open the virtual machine. However, since I do not know what and how much data has changed on the basic disk, I can't tell you how much data corruption, you will see. So you better take an another snapshot to be temporary once loading hard file attached, in order to ensure the current hard data files cannot be changed.
