Media Center extender on Vista Business

I would like to see my vista media center content on my desktop (Vista business running).  Is there a way to make it act as an Extender?  The Media center is on the same network as my desktop computer and the only other extender is my XBOX 360.

Thank you
Chris

Whenever I try to add as an Extender happens to the part where it sets up my xbox and it says error and it can not set up my computer. So far, I have tried the part where you remove certificates and restarted some Services, but none of them worked.
    Under Event Viewer, he said

  • Netflix/media center extender

I use windows vista Home premium with media center.  I have a linksys dma2200 extender connected to the media center for viewing in another room.  I have a netflix account and am able to view on my PC, but cannot show via the media center extender.  The silver light I to view Netflix on my PC.  When I click the icon of netflix on the Extender, he says that the application is not available on the media center Extender units.  Help!

    Hi 36109

Welcome to Windows Vista answers Forums!

First you can try to uninstall and reinstall Silverlight and check.

You can try to uninstall Silverlight by downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301

Restart the computer after the uninstallation of Silverlight and install it:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/video/en/us/details/15804fbf-7657-45FA-971b-dd567615fa52

Note: Some menus of Windows Media Center does not support third party commercial edition can influence the ability for the Netflix at Windows Media Center entry point to appear. If one of these utilities is installed on the machine, it is likely, it is the cause of the problem, and uninstall the tool does not always solve the problem.

  • How reset/uninstall media center extender on XBOX

After graduating with a repaired XBOX back I had to add the Extender. Everything was going well with no error. However, only 3 of my home movies are now rather than the 33 that are on the media center. Is there a way to reset the Extender on xbox or delete it if I try to reinstall to see if that fixes it?

  • Media Center Extender and xbox - version question

I've been recently using WMC TV recording, but I can't get the message to my TV. I think of buying any old Xbox console to get the Extender. -I really hate on the games-just the Extender. Is there a certain version of the Xbox that I have Extender? Thank you.

    Hi Dean,

Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community.

You can go through the article to learn more about setting up a Windows Media Center.

If you have an Extender that worked with Windows Vista, it should work with Windows 7. For example, the Xbox 360, which includes the built-in Media Center Extender functionality will work with Windows 7.

Former dilution models that have been developed for use with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 do not work with Windows 7. I suggest you to be sure to read the fine print on the expansion box before you buy.

Hope this information was helpful and let us know if you need assistance in the future. We will be happy to help you.

  • Internet TV and Windows Media Center Extender

I have been using Internet TV and LOVE it on my Linksys Extender DMA2200 since I installed Windows 7 RC1 in June. Now that I have installed Windows 7 Home Premium I have Internet TV in Media Center, but it is absent from my Extender! I got something free that I have more now that I paid for this... Please tell me that this will come back. Thank you, James

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-Media-Center/learn-more/Extenders/help/Extenders-Xbox-FAQ.aspx

    2. click on "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane.

  • Windows Media Center crashes on Vista when you try to play Netflix

I can connect to Netflix and discover my queue and all the rest. I can view the details of the episodes and so forth, but when I click on 'Play', Windows Media Center crashes and restarts itself - every time.

There are other problems in Windows Media Center. Sometimes it freezes during the display of other media, such as Internet TV. I had my computer more than a year, and this is the first time I tried to use Windows Media Center, so I don't know if it worked before.

I tried to find an update for it, but all that I've tried say that it applies to my system. (I always install the automatic updates). I also ran the Fix It program, which says it completed, but which did not help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi farrelldoc,

    1. What is the error message you receive library breaks down?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    3. what Microsoft fixit did you run on the computer?

There is a known issue on some computers that have a chain very long user agent in Windows Internet Explorer. This problem occurs when the user-agent string exceeds 260 characters. There is currently no work around supported for that matter.

For more information, see the Microsoft article and try the steps mentioned below.

Known issues and limitations of Netflix on Windows Media Center for Windows Vista

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/972496

For the Windows media center crashes when viewing other media issue try the following procedure.

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    I hope this helps!

  • Xbox 360 Media Center Extender loses the connection to the media center to Windows 7 after change of router

I have a Windows 7 Media Center box, and an Xbox 360 that I use as an Extender.  The two connections to the same wired router.  Everything worked fine until I went on my old router (failed) and put in a WNDR4300.   After the new router has been installed, I didn't have the Extender work then, deleted from the media Center and re - he added.  It worked but after I shut off/started the xbox, no link.  It is repetitive: I can make a new connection, but then it didn't reconnect after reboot of the xbox.

    Check/change:

-J' changed to a static IP xbox

-There is no part 3 a / v or a firewall on the support center

-L' on the media center network adapter is 'home '.

-The network card on the media center * fact * show the xbox 360

-The event log after the xbox is restarted shows:

event ID 538: installation of media center extender does not like the Extender has been detected on the network, but for the Extender upnp search failed (timed out after 20000ms)

-How long before it, I have found that the service IS running upnp device host (and set to auto)

-J' checked 4300 router wndr and UPnP is enabled (advertising set to 30 minutes)

question, any ideas what configuration will solve this problem?

  • 1290 error when you try to install Media Center extender for X 360 in Win7 Pro x 64

OK, here's one for someone who knows Win7 Kernel internals.

I am trying to connect my XBox 360 to my PC MC with Windows 7 Pro x 64. When I type the code 8 digits of the Xbox in Media Center, I get an error "Setup." Check the system error log, I found that it was a failure of the Media Extender service to start. Stop of is an error 1290, that says "service start failed because one or more services in the same process have a service SID inconsistent type parameter.» SID type has something to do with the core permissions or somesuch. WAY out of my League.
The only thing that I could find online is that this error occurs sometimes in what concerns the time Service Windows, and that a registry edit to fix it. I tried a similar "fix" on this service registry entry, but it had no effect on this error, so I changed the return register.
Someone has an idea of what I might try next? I did all the standard things that are recommended for problems of Media Extender, including uninstalling and reinstalling all components of media. Re-installation of Windows is NOT an option at this stage, this computer is used by all my children, and there would be a mutiny if he became unavailable for a long period of time (especially for as "lame" reason like this). I'd really listen to my media to my XBox. I hope that someone with some knowledge of the works of this service lies this question one day.
    Thanks for reading.

  • How do you play dubbed audio or subtitles in Windows Media Center Extender (Xbox 360)?

I know how to turn subtitles on my Windows Media Center PC, but there is no option to select audio dubbed or subtitled when you use Windows Media Center Extender. All my video files contain subtitles and audio dubbed foreign films.  My wife loves Spanish subtitles, because she has trouble understanding some English films.  I searched some forums and there are questions there but they have no definitive answers.  How a company billions of dollars developing a Media Center and leave out or miss crucial features like these? Please do not react with the thread on how to activate subtitles in TV Mode. Which does not apply to this question. The key word is EXTENDERS.

    Hi AnthonyWilson5

Subtitles should be coded in the movie view. These subtitles are automatically playing with video files. If the subtitles are a separate .srt file, then you will not be able to visualize everything by watching a video on the 360. There is no real turn option ON or OFF for subtitle in the Xbox 360.

But for more information you can even try to contact the expert Microsoft Xbox 360 team. Please visit the links below to find a community that will support what ask you in the right direction for Xbox 360.

When I went to look at my library, I noticed that some of the songs had a yellow padlock in front of the icon. I looked through the properties and could not understand anything the thing he looked the same as a normal file for me. any ideas?

Looks like that the songs can be protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management). You are able to play the same songs with Windows Media Player?
