I have a desktop Dell Dimension running XP. I uninstalled Real Player and Rhapsody, just in case they were causing problems, but that did not work.
Here is what I noticed:
WMP plays still files were extracted a CD, the songs that were purchased from Amazon, but not:
-Downloaded free MP3s (once again the teleseminar recordings)
-WMA files that I downloaded (records of my seminars)
All this has played before. I can't put my finger when he started, although I think that things started to get weird when I downloaded itunes months ago, but I don't remember this particular problem from this time.
I searched the Web for similar positions, but found none.
So... any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thank you very much
DavidHello OutbackDAL,
Thank you for your message. There is an option in iTunes to convert all the songs to the .aac format. This might be the reason why you are not able to play in Media Player, because this format is not supported in Media Player 11. Right click on one of the songs that can not play and check the format of the song. If the song is the .aac format, you will need to convert it to another compatible format or .mp3. If the song is already in a readable format, you can watch download or install a new Codec. Sometimes, they have several players (that is to say real, Rhapsody, iTunes, etc.) can damage your Codec. You can get the Windows Media Player Codec from the link below. Please let us know if it did or did not help to solve your problem.See you soonEngineer Jason Microsoft Support answers visit our Microsoft answers feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

A video shows the 'windows media player 2 has stopped working ". How can I fix it?
When I click on the icon to play a video, "windows media player 2 has stopped working" is the only thing that appears. How can I fix it?
I have to go into the program to find the video. I didn't know that there was a Media Player 2. Would it not be better to download another drive to use? If so which do you recommend?Hi Dave,.
1. What is the format of the video you are trying to play?
2 are you facing this problem only with a particular video file?
3. have you made changes to your computer recently?
I suggest to follow the link and run Microsoft fix - it and check if that helps.

I hope this helps.

Windows Media Player 12 has stopped working.
Windows Media Player 12 has stopped working. When I select an audio track and click on the play button, a red X appears next to the title in the playlist. I uninstalled and reinstalled the player, but also update the drivers. Checking the properties through the device manager says that the device is working properly, but this clearly isn't. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem would be welcome. As a matter of interest, itunes has stopped working at the same time. And audio tracks play fine in RealPlayer.
Thanks in advanceHello

My Windows media player recently stopped playing my video files that have a. Extension of MOD, although the audio is not yet once the video is crushed. When the video freezes a computer bubble lets me know that the driver igfx has stopped working and then recovered.
I spent many hours trying to solve this problem. My graphics card is an Intell chipset and it is up to date with his driver (I checked), the motherboard is an ASUS and this is far too - I checked. I ran an auto fix and that disabled four codecs, but the problem persists. I have run the sfc / scan now processes at the prompt as an administrator and it came clear.
The problem is driving me crazy! can anyone help? When I play the video on another computer that works under XP, I have no problem.
Thank you
John.

Media Player will not stop playing when the close button is hit.
My media player works fine until I try to close. When I watch a video clip, I make sure that I have 'stop' the clip before I "close" (the little red button with an X in it, which is suppose to close the program) the player or clip will continue to play in the background. If I brings up the Task Manager, it will display no programs running, I can still here the clip and I'm going to start > all programs > media player always plays the same clip. It is not suppose to do this right? If it is then how can I change so it 'close' media player?
Hi major347,
Thank you for writing to Microsoft answers Community Forums.
This one seems to be really weird when you began experiencing this problem?
You have a connected PDA that uses the media player? Sometimes Windows Mobile Device Center has been continuously the reactivation of WMP.
Another possible issue of the keyboard that you use may control the media player. There are known of the problem with the Logitech keyboard software. Try this if you have a Logitech software update.
Try to open the Task Manager is trying to kill the wmpsideshowgadget.exe process and check if it shutsdown.
If it works there, then, open the CONTROL PANEL
Double-click WINDOWS SIDESHOW
Uncheck everything that has to do with WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
You can also try to disable sharing in media player click on... Tools-> Options-> library-> configure share-> uncheck the two 'media find others to share' & "share my media".
Check if it works.
If all the above fails try to perform the clean boot
How to perform a clean boot:

Try doing a sfc scan and see if that makes a difference
Try to run a SFC scan, to do this, follow these steps:
Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
Type the following command and press ENTER:
sfc/scannow
The sfc/scannow command. analysis of all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions

Windows Media Player 11 has STOPPED WORKING... XP AND Vista problems
I have a home network with computers XP and Vista. Computer XP is Dell Dimension 4600. Vista computer is HP Pavilion Slimline.
On or about 6/10, WMP 11 on the Vista computer has stopped working properly. Video will not play digital video (mpeg format), previously working but playing the audio from the file and the timer updates the video plays.
Attempt to update the codecs (K-Lite). Didn't help... now, the native multimedia player K-Lite is the same way.
Deleting updates 6/10 and later versions. No change.
System restore of flowing it at 6/9, 6/5, 6/4. Restoration is back with "unexpected error". The logs show a NTFS corrupted and suggested chkdsk run. Filled with chkdsk c: /R with NO ERRORS.
Ran SFC/scannow on Vista machine. He said "no violation of integrity.
Today (6/14), WMP 11 on XP machine has stopped working. Videos will be running, but are extremely hectic, like something, it's stealing time CPU; However, the system idle process is higher than 90%.
What the hell is happening?
EDIT TO add: I want to stress something else... Movie Maker on both machines still work. Videos can be imported into and read correctly.
I had things market... Finally.
I have none of the above. I do not have the installation diskettes (OEM on a computer HP... no disks provided with the machine, have only the recovery disks that I made when I configured the system).
So until I went looking for a set of discs that I use, I did the following... and I * think * I know I could fix it, but I do not know...
I have re installed the K-Lite codec pack... only of video codecs. I essentially took the video installation by default EXCEPT... I turned off video acceleration. Intel Express Chipset not allow me to disable hardware acceleration by using its own GUI and Windows Vista would not touch parameters of acceleration as Intel ordered to them. Well, I suppose that K-Lite has been able to do what could not do Windows and Intel wouldn't let me do.
Don't know if that was the fix or not, but everything works now.

Media Player Classic has stopped working
Lady Grace,
Can you confirm you're problem is related to the update windows KB975560 mentioned in this thread.
If Yes, then you can try some of the suggested options (unfortunately, they are not suitable for me but may be for you), if not then it would be best to start a new thread with your question.
Thank you.
Hey Jersey Bunny
How you define the update of windows, so it will not install this KB975560 automatically? Thank God, this thread is here coz I had this same problem and thanks for these great answers that I managed to get my media player save and works but updates keep sneaking it back in!
Thank you

WndOws Media Player hangs when I play HD video files
Just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate edition of Vista business and Windows Media Player crashes every time I try to play matroska and other video files high definition. Need to add that these files were perfectly play in WMP when I was on Vista. I installed the latest version of the K-Lite Codec pack on my system.
Any suggestions? What is the specific error that you receive in WMP? I can put up an Easy Assist session if you want and can remotely to your system and take a look. Feel free to write me directly at * address email is removed from the privacy *.
That being said, WMP12 is 7 and Vista WMP11. They cannot be deleted or moved to one or the other. Vista was actually less support for native playback of most types of audio and video than 7 don't. If you have absolutely no other codecs installed then a H.264 with just Haali installed should play back fine. Media Player 9.0 has stopped playing DVDs
Windows XP Media Player 9 has stopped playing all commercial DVDs with message about multimedia digital protected.
Restore the system back a month when it played DVD and by removing all updates Media Player does not help, same message.
Tips on how to restore playback of DVD?
Thank you
aquaries
The WMP for DVD is correct. You need a DVD encoder (software)
This gives you digital rights to read the DVD. ATI video cards has a free, NVIDIA
fees for it, or go online for others...

Media Player Classic suddenly stopped working
Well, after the last update of the operating system, Media Player Classic has stopped running. Whenever I am trying to open a file, it gives an error that the program has stopped running. Vista offers to download the new version of it - then just out of curiosity, I tried and new version did not work at all either. It was obvious. So what's happened and what should I do to get it working again? I know there are many other programs use it as well but I like this one, and I would really like to continue to use it. And certainly, I don't like that updates break programs and drivers.
Hi Riksu,
Media player classic is a third party application and Microsoft is not aware of the mode of operation. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the codecs and check if it works.
If it doesn't work then you will need to contact the manufacturer for assistance.
