Media player for Vista 64-bit

What are the titles of the hymns on a Japanese CD?  In Windows XP, the same CD title in American English

Hi AlfredBalmer,

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forums.

According to the problem description, I understand that the title of the CD appear in the Japanese script in Windows Media Player on Windows Vista.

I would appreciate if you can help me with the following information.

1 is this problem specific to this CD?

2. don't you make changes on the computer before this problem?

I suggest you to check out the methods and check if it helps.

Method 1

Solve the problems of Windows Media Player video and other media or library

Run the fix - it from the link.

http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_media_player_diagnostic

Method 2

To resolve this problem, delete the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:

(a) output Windows Media Player.

(b) click Start, click run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

(c), select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.
Note You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

(d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

(a) output Windows Media Player.

(b) click Start, click run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoftand then click OK.

(c) select the folder Media Player and then click on Delete on the file menu.

(d) restart Windows Media Player.

It will be useful.

A description of the differences between 32-bit versions of Windows Vista and 64 bit versions of Windows Vista:

    You have 2 two versions of Internet explore 8 (IE8), 64-bit IE8 and IE8 32 bit. IE8 64-bit is the default value.

It is not a 64-bit version of Flash Player (at least not yet). While IE8 64 bit is your default browser, Flash contentshould open in IE8 32 bit. If you know any page contained Flash (or dependent on one or more ActiveX controls), open an instance of IE8 32 bit to access the page.

IE64-bit is a "level 2" browser Flash and ActiveX controls are supported in browsers 'level 1' (e.g., IE 32 bits). Seelevels of browser support on this somewhat linked page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263526.aspx#section2

The following is based on a related post from my colleague MVP Don Varnau aboutFlash & IE8 32 bit:

The executable file for IE8 32 bit can be found here:

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

The executable for IE8 64 bit can be found here:

    C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe

Browse to the appropriate Program Files folder and create a shortcut to this version ofiexplore.exe

    Then using IE8 32 bit:

    1. download and save to the desktop, the Flash Player uninstaller

    2. download and save to the desktop, the Flash Player installer

    Then...
Make sure IE8 32-bit is the default open.

When you right-click on the icons of IE in the quick launch area, the Start Menu and the desktop, then click Properties, which is in the target field?

(From a previous post by Peter Csaszar... version)

    Targets should be either:
    IE8 32 bit "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
    IE8 64-bit "C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe"

Change these objectives to be "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet ' (including the quotes) and IE8 32 bit should open by default

To create a shortcut to IE8 64 bit for occasional use, navigate to the file iexplore.exe inC:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe. Right-click iexplore.exe , and then select send to. Desktop (create shortcut). Rename this shortcut so that you know this is the shortcut for IE8 64 bit.

To make sure IE8 32-bit is the default, try this link http://www.Microsoft.com. When the browser opens lookhelp | About Internet Explorer. If there is no mention of 64-bit, 32-bit is the default value. If you have disabled the Menu bar, you will need to right click on the IE toolbar and put a controlmenu bar to have help available (or simply press ALT to move focus to themenu bar temporarily).

I tried to play a dvd with windows media player on vista family premium, I get the message that I need to upgrade the player I have is the version 6.4, but I can't find any update for vista because they all seem to be for XP or earlier. Where can I find a drive to upgrade. Thank you very much.

    Hello Pacone

According to Walter, Microsoft Windows Vista comes with Media Player 11. So please could you clarify the application you are using? The version you gave I guess maybe it is Windows Movie Maker. Here is the link for Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. You can download the latest Live Movie Maker from here. http://explore.live.com/Windows-Live-Movie-Maker?OS=other

    Hello

I was redirected to this page trying to download Windows Media Player 12:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/download/Windows-Media-Player-details.aspx

    Is it true!

"Windows Media Player is not compatible with your system.

You are under Windows 7 64-bit. Although Windows Media Player does not work on your system, you can download Windows Media Player
    for other operating systems.

    What is the alternative, please?

    Hello

Windows Media Player (WMP) is included in all editions of Windows 7, except in its Windows 7 N/KN editions. If you have an edition of Windows 7 N/KN please see here:

    What is a Windows 7 N edition?

for the background and how to get WMP.

If you do not have an edition of Windows 7 N/KN then check that the Windows Media Player feature is turned on:

    1. click on Start (lower-left) and then on Control Panel.

    2. click on programs and features.

    3. on the left side of the screen, click on 'Windows turn features on or off".

    4. look for the entry called multimedia features, expand it, and then check the box * next to Windows Media Player.

    5. click on OK.

    6. restart the PC.

    * If the Windows Media Player box is already checked, uncheck it, click OK, restart can do steps 1-6 above.

There is no download WMP for editions of Windows 7 that are not editions N/KN (because it is built in).

  • Windows Media Player for Vista, does not play my avi files and says he has a codec error?

Came across this problem trying to put an AVI in powerpoint presentation for the school. I don't know how this happened or how to fix the error. The error indicates that windows media player is not the right codec to play the video. However, when I sent it myself and opend it upwards on another computer, which doesn't have powerpoint, it plays very well.

I did some research as to what a codec for windows media player, that's what code and decodes the video compression. However, when I tried to download the appropriate codec file, there is nothing. Not even useful workaround solutions.

In addition, went and downloaded quicktime and it could not read the video either.

Any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated. Thank you!

    Hi DaisyReaper,

Are you able to play .avi files?

You can use your favorite search engine to download and install the latest codec for Windows Media Player. Subsequently, check if you are able to read .avi files.

  • Hard to find the upgrade to Adobe Flash player for Vista 64-bit

I got my PC for a little over 2 years now and I would like to watch videos and movies on my pc via internet.  When I try to view a video or a movie, a bar appears at the top of the window tells me to download the correct version of adobe flash, but it never works.  I tried to access the adobes site to find an upgrade, but they show no one is yet available for 64-bit Vista.

My husband bought a new PC last Christmas and has the 64-bit vista, but he can watch videos and movies online.  Did I miss something on Adobes site?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You're not missing something on the Adobe Web site. Flash is only available in 32-bit version. You can use Internet Explorer 32-bit (in your Programs Menu) or install Firefox . Then, install the 32-bit Flash Player and your husband will be happy. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • There will be an update or a hotfix for windows media player in vista

I tried all the fixes, codecs, etc..  I just want to know if a new version of WMP will be available for vista or if I need to upgrade to windows 7 so that he can work again.

    Hello Shelby57,

You can try the following to see if it will get your Windows Media Player in Windows Vista.

Make sure that Windows Media Player is set as default.
Go to start. Click default programs. Set default programs. Select Windows Media Player, and then select "Set this program as default". And then click OK.

First of all, we run System File Checker to see if you have a corrupt file system.

    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any violation of the integrity and repair any damaged operating system files.

    Reboot your system.

Rename/Delete the "Windows Media" folder located under %userprofile%\appdata\local\microsoft

Now, go to Windows Media Player, do a right-click and select "run as Administrator".

You should now be able to open Windows Media Player on Vista.

    I hope this helps.
