Media Player not working not not in win7 pro

Hi, I have a portable 64-bit running win7 pro and Media Player gives error message

"The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 12.0.7601.18840 where 12.0.7601.18741 was expected.

Windows media player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled.

You want to install the player on the Microsoft web site? "

So then the link to the web site, takes you to a page that you talk about Media Player 12 and offers only a media feature pack of.

I downloaded that and tried to install it but it gives an error message saying

"Setup has encountered an error: 0 x 80004002"

Without this interface supported. "

So I tried the advice given elsewhere on the forum to uninstall via the icon "turn on or off windows features" but this shows an option box that is completely empty.

This is a recent problem, and it needs to be fixed fast because this laptop is used for work. Can someone please help?

The whole "multimedia functions" box empty, i.e. is never listed at all?

Try to run a SFC /scannow check and see if this solve either WMP itself or the 'media features"being blank.

If you need a media player quickly and the above does not help, then try something like free VLC (there are others). If you install it, don't let it take over as default player, but just open it manually as needed.

If this is a recent problem of the above does not help, you can try a restore point at a time, just before the problem occurred, which peut heal. See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/system-restore-faq#1TC=windows-7 for Q & as

  • Windows Media Player not working, help?

OK, I got this computer from a friend of my father.  Of course, I wiped it clean and reset it because the man had forgotten to do before giving it to my father. I didn't have too many problems with it and more; the often the bombardment of ads, slows down a lot, really bad high heating. After a while, however, I managed to get fixed.

But my real problem is that last year, my Windows Media Player started acting really crazy. It would freeze and become unresponsive, it is impossible for me to do something with it, even if I try to scroll to the bottom of the page. It has gotten to the point where they would stop working all together if I open the program. For this reason, I have no choice, but to go through my Windows Explorer, make a playlist of fortune on a folder and play my music/movies from there.

I thought to download another Windows Media Player and remove the old, but I don't know how to do and what file to get.

Need help please, I'm really tired of seeing the white screen.

  • Windows Media Player not taking not "recommended" or "Custom" settings

I'm as Win7 64 bit.  Previously, I had no problem with Windows Media Player.  Recently, however, he has started not working not properly.  "Specifically, when I click on an audio file, now, the"Welcome to Windows Media Player"screen asking me to select '' recommended '' or Custom" settings.  It's okay that I choose, after clicking on "Finish", he returned to this same screen "Welcome to Windows Media Player".  It is apparently not applying the selection of your choice, so it's a feedback loop.  Above all, now I can't use Media Player to play audio files.

I'd like suggestions on how to address this problem.

The properties of the file show wmplayer.exe is version 12.0.2601.18150.  For some reason, there are 2 copies of this file on my system and they are slightly different in size (both are the same version): one is in C:\Program Files and it is 164kb. the other is in C:\Program Files (x 86) and it is 161 kb.  Seems strange, but I don't know what that means (if any).

Here's what I've tried: I run optionalfeatures.exe and uninstalled Media Player.  I restarted and then reused to reinstall the Media Player, rebooted again ten.  Which made no difference.

    Thank you
    Paul
