Memory VM - exchanged / inflated

Hello

We are running a cluster of 5.5 ESXi hosts.

This morning, end users report that they find some VMS are slow.  Then we find out there is swapped memory / inflated for some virtual machines.

(1) wonder if we should get no sign of problem of memory (guest VM)?

(2) after you migrate the virtual machines to another host ESXi, performance is improved.  Wonder just why DRS are not hunted migrate virtual machines.

Your opinion is requested.

Thank you

... and what is Automation? It is fully automated? Try increasing the threshold... then check the availability of memory/processor of the other guests.

To add more available RAM, you should: poweroff or diminish the memory of the VM and/or set a limit in the resource pool. Then scale - in or out of the cluster (adding RAM physical or adding another host).

Another thing you could do was the value of the shares in a resource pool that contains the VM criticism.

I'm currently migrating a class Cluster CSC Exchange 2007 running on vmware on windows 2008, 2003.  It is also a SCC Cluster.  I followed all of the vmware and MS best practices, but not sure of one thing IM is the size of memory and CPU allocation page/swap file.  I have 5 Esxi hosts and each is running only Exchange 2007 comments according to vmware and MS recommendations when you use the Clustering of CSC.

Each host has 2 CPUs to 6 cores per processor and 48 gb of Ram and that each host will have only a guest, would like to send it to the guest.  I read somewhere that it is recommended this page exchange 2007 memory size + 10 mb file.  Do I really need to get the page to the size of the file?  250 GB of disk space is a lot for swap files! IM also not sure what to set the allocation processor too.  If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

    Thank you

    Hi dlargeit,

First of all, off - welcome to the VMTN forums!

I'm with Josh26 I've ever seen any recommendations indicating that when a CCS cluster virtualization virtual machine by host is taken in charge. It is recommended to keep only a single node SCC by host (which is true for all virtual clusters or technologies like Exchange CSC/CCR/DAG), but there is nothing specific regarding the keep only a single virtual machine by host.

On the file page, you are actually right on that.  For Exchange 2007, the paging file must be on the amount of memory configured as well as 10 MB to account for overhead costs of the kernel.  It is recommended by Microsoft and it is planned to provide enough space page Exchange should exchange more provide the necessary overhead if meet you a server failure and need to create a complete memory dump.

You can find this recommendation here: http://technet.microsoft.com/library/aa996719 (EXCHG.80) .aspx

In terms of CPU allocation, which should really be made according to your individual needs rather than just give all the resources the VM on the ESXi host.  Microsoft lists the maximum recommended for processor resources (Planning Processor Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) and it says that 12 hearts is the maximum for mailbox or Hub Transport box.  Is your really big enough environment need a lot of CPU resources?  Why not start small and increase it if necessary?

You are in control of your own destiny in some of these configurations.  If you know the recommended page file size is 10 MB of RAM +, do not give the server more RAM is really needed, or you will have to pay for it in the consumed disk space to host the pagefile.  See the guide to memory resources (Planning Memory Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) to understand the maximum rates of memory for Exchange.  You will see that the maximum memory is 32GB, so there are very few reasons to assign all 48GB of RAM on your server, if it can even use.

In short, the size of the server based on the real needs and I am confident, that you will have a virtualized Exchange system that performs as well as physical.

  • Disable balloon and sharing memory

We have a cluster with 5 5.1 ESXi hosts.  We want that there is no exchange of memory or the balloon.  We always made sure that our ESX host have a lot of RAM to accommodate what we attribute to our VM, so I think that we will take a performance hit if we were memory sharing/Exchange or swelling.

In our test group, I noticed that even though we have more memory on our hosts that requires the virtual machine, it seems there is sharing of some courses.  I wasn't able to well find it in our production environment.  I want to just make sure we subscribe all memory we ascribe to our guests and they are not exchanging around when not in use.

In the past, I found this option in the properties of the virtual machine on the 'resources' tab.  I think it's very good for CPU, a reservation is set to 0 but with unlimited box ticked.  For the record, I see 0 MB to as well, set of actions to normal, checked Unlimited.  I also see a checkbox for "reserve all the memory (everything locked).  I want to check this box to make sure there is no sharing?  I think that the balloon may be a different setting.

    Hello

You can book all of the memory of the virtual computer and ESXi shares no memory of this virtual machine with an another VM.

But if you want to disable the balloon, you must do so within each VM guest operating system because VMware tools includes balloon pilot.

  • When my pages more small Nehalem for GST will kick?

Under some new hosts IBM HS22s (Nehalem L5530, 96 GB of RAM) with 4U1 ESXi and all updates.

Our old guests: Netburst CPU, ESX 3.5, run 25 VMs Windows, random sampling of the version of Windows and configuration, could get extreme savings from the GST: total Shared = ~ 25 GB, shared common = ~ 5 GB. Excessive punctures: gave 70 GB more than 64 actually existing. Due to the pooling, host is green healthy and happy around 50% usage.

In the new cluster running the same number of VMs, yet a similar random sampling of configurations, granted 92 gb of 96 GB physical host. Total shared: / 3 gb, shared pool: 2 GB. The host is alarming because of the use of the memory of 96%.

What I Mem.AllocGuestLargePage the value 0? I wish instead, it performs as I read here:

as server memory is close to fully committed, ESX switches to memory pages small so that GST can dedupe more effectively and end-users can then pack more VMs in the host.

Its going to be hard to explain why we lack the same workload at such a rate of use of management. It is true that we do not have performance issues and virtual machines are actually much more quickly.

Jesse, some information on why the host memory usage has increased. ESX4.0 supports EFA (material-mmu) on nehalems. Using large pages (2 MB) is especially benefitial for this case because of the cuts, you get in the treatment of TLB for young. The impact of some applications is as much as a 20% more performance. For this reason, ESX4.0 back aggressively client memory with 2 MB pages. This has two effects: reduction sharing page and memory allocation in coarser units. Both of these lead to increase in the use of the host memory and, as you note, this results in significant improvements in performance.

This behavior should not affect your ability to deploy virtual machines that you did before ESX4.0. If memory is to be rehabilitated, ESX4.0 will begin to drill 2M pages small pages allowing them to be shared (or if the pressure of memory is sufficient, inflated or exchanged). But it should not break large pages to do this and the result will be that GST will kick when it is advantageous to do so.

You ask if you set Mem.AllocGuestLargePage to 0. This will disable the use of large pages for your virtual machines. An alternative you should consider is to disable the alarm that signals the host high memory usage. Use of memory for better performance, knowing that it can be recovered if necessary seems preferable.

    Hi people!
First of all, sorry for my English :).

I want to upgrade my memory from 1 GB to 4 GB, the maximum capacity (2 modules with 2 GB each). I already have the new RAM, but I'm not really sure of its specifications:

    My motherboard supports 667 Mhz with CL 4 (or 5) modules? (Now I have 2 x 512MB 533 Mhz)

    But most important:

WHERE can I FIND THE 2ND SLOT for MY MEMORY of EXCHANGE IT (1 is on the back of my laptop)?

Already read it is located under the keyboard... but how to get to it then! ??

    Thank you...

    > I want to upgrade my memory from 1 GB to 4 GB, the maximum capacity (2 modules with 2 GB each). I already have the new RAM, but I'm not really sure of its specifications:

Why do you want to upgrade the RAM to 4 GB if the 32 bit Windows OS will not recognize all of the 4 GB?
The 32 bit OS recognizes only 3 GB. Check the Microsoft page for more information!

    > My motherboard does not support 667 Mhz with CL 4 (or 5) modules? (Now I have 2 x 512MB 533 Mhz)
It is not serious if CL4 or 5. Important is that you use modules 200-PIN SODIMM PC2 - 4200, as shown here in this page:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=23669&ft=m&St=3

As you say it s under the keyboard and the keyboard must be removed to gain access to the memory module!

  • Computer does not start after running the utility Boot Lenovo.

    Hello
I replaced the power supply with a CX550M of Corsair, increased memory by exchanging the 4 GB to 8 GB for a 16 GB total, I added a hybrid 2 TB Seagate HDD and all worked fine until yesterday, about 1 month.
Yesterday, I decided to run all the tests of the Lenovo startup disk and after that I restarted, the computer does not start.
When I press the power button, the fan starts and it stops after 3 or 4 seconds and nothing happens, the monitor says no signal, I removed the external USB disk and printer, I reoved the second drive and the same thing heppens.
Any idea what this problem could be? Would it be a bad power supply?
    Thank you

Resolved, I erased the memory CMOS, moved to following ankle boot, back up the cmos.

  • FT peaks of the processor and latency

What kind of latency should expect when running FT protected comments?

I have a new 3-node cluster using servers DL380 G9 6.0 with the latest patch from April. Nothing runs on the then invited another cluster vCenter and 1 2012 windows server, I use for the FT test. When I activate FT on the client, it becomes slow and the comments CPU spikes when you do something, open the windows, moving around, etc. It's ping to meet when protected FT is usually is normally 50 ms or more and you can see it increase when the guest cpu spikes as a result of the opening of windows.

Is this normal? I do not think that this kind of slow and latency would be acceptable for production applications, am I missing something?

the guest is 2012 with 2 vCPU and 8 GB of memory

Exchanges of Vmotion and FT have 2 network cards dedicated to each of them and active jumbo frames. When traffic monitoring network connections is not anywhere close to saturating the network. Use of the host is nearly 5% on all nodes.

After trials with network cards 10 GbE for IP and bandwidth monitoring, that we determined that 10 GB is required even if the documentation indicates that it is only recommended. They changed the underlying technology that connects FT in vSphere 6.0 vLockstep to what is called "Fast pointing to the audit. Followed by the natachasery FT using esxtop on an old 5.5 system that uses the old technology (vLockstep) and then this same comments and using FT on 6.0 while monitoring with esxtop once again, we could see that it uses a lot more bandwidth to do the same.

So the real question wasn't that something was misconfigured, but the documentation needs to read that 10 GB is 'necessary' and not 'recommended '.

Working with VMware, we also discovered that they would not escalate the ticket to engineering at least use 10GBe links for feet and inches 6.0, it would make you assume that it is an obligation, not a recommendation. The documentation is misleading and I hope that this post helps someone in the future and that VMware updates the requirements documentation.

  • Pavilion dv6636 stuck in a reboot loop with no boot

    Hello

I have a Pavilion dv6636 purchased on Oct / 2007 which saw a reboot loop with no boot. By pressing the Start button, I can see the hood leds on, power on (as well as the port for illuminated around blue AC adapter), HD led being turned on once and can hear the pilot DVD is powered and the fan turns, then, after about 10 seconds (while the screen is always black), he stops, remains off for 5 sec , then restarts, stuck in this loop. Experiences I've already done:
    -hard reset
    -reset of memory
    -stable memory locations
    -exchanged memories
-started with memories (sounded a beep as expected)
-had started with HD (continued with the same symptoms)
-F8 or F2 keys pressed during startup (black screen and continued with the same symptoms)
-F10 key during startup (by pressing F10, it does not shut down as usually does, but rest died, with black screen and rotation of the fan)
-external monitor plugged in when you start (black screen and continued with the same symptoms)

Same question occurred in about 4 months ago, but at that time, after break of a week I tried to start and has been a success. Not at the moment.

Please, any thoughts of what could be the problem?

    Thank you

  • Reg: Error in parallel Hint-

    Hi Experts,

I have a concern about the use of the parallel hint with DOP = 'AUTO '.

These errors during the ETL or tasks are performed with / * + PARALLEL (AUTO) * /.

java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12853: insufficient memory for buffers PX: run 1159024K, max necessary K 11666304

ORA-04031: unable to allocate 65560 bytes of shared memory ('pool', 'unknown object', 'pool', 'Pool of msg PX')

I tried google, but could not get a pattern appropriate for that and also correct.

1-do I need to increase the bound parameter buffer?

2 - is this 'AUTO' option the cause? And using a DOP = 3, 4, etc. guaranteed to solve this problem?

(I try this and check but want to know the exact reason, so that it causes no problems in Prod)

    Guidance in this regard.

    nordine B wrote:

Before going deep into your words, had a quick question - despite having DOP as 'auto' in the suspicion, why is there an error on the buffers PX?

I was under the assumption that DOP setting on "automatic", the optimizer will take care of all resources and allocate the CPU threads accordingly. But then why this error is growing?

First, I already mentioned in my reply what treat buffers "PX": this is the memory that is required for communication between the servers in PX. Parallel execution comes with the need for a communication between the involved process layer and this layer of communication requires memory for exchanging data (and could even cross the interconnection for CARS cross the parallel execution of the instance). If you want to know more about it, you can watch my Webinar: http://allthingsoracle.com/analyzing-and-troubleshooting-oracle-parallel-execution/

So does not AUTO magic DOP, it is mainly about the following:

-L' optimizer uses a new method of calculation to arrive at a particular degree of parallelism (DOP). The basics, how is the calculation I have described in my post 'Cost Is Time' mentioned in my previous answer. Since this calculation is based on the estimated costs of the optimizer, it can happen to little all - adapted DOP, or may be a completely inappropriate DOP if the calculation of the underlying costs did not reflect the actual amount of work, or if the calibration i/o returned to the unreasonable values.

-In addition to this AUTO DOP code still uses other settings / settings / thresholds which can be used to control / limit the calculated value.

    * The PARALLEL_MIN_TIME_THRESHOLD parameter can be used to control which * estimated time * must be exceeded before the parallel execution gets seen by AUTO DOP. Note also that it is based on estimates and therefore underlies the same problems as described above

    * The PARALLEL_DEGREE_LIMIT can be used at the upper limit of the degree of "cap".

Currently Manager of used consumer resource group data can impose a different ceiling and will be considered in the calculation, too

-The PARALLEL_SERVERS_TARGET parameter can be used to control the simultaneous execution of running in parallel, resulting in a queue of executions if the threshold is exceeded

-The calibration of i/o resources provides an important factor which is the main engine for the calculation of the DOP

-Resource Manager can be used to implement fairly complex scenarios with different queues and the different settings by Consumer Group

So you can see there are some elements in AUTO DOP that may consider the consumption of resources, especially things of queues and advanced resource manager configurations, but stuff 'Pads PX' does not part of the calculation.

If you want to learn more about these settings and interaction with the resource manager, follow the links on the page "webinar" above - that it points to several very good articles published on the Oracle 'Data Warehouse' blog, a highly recommended resource if you regularly deal with a running in parallel.

  • Card problem NETWORK M30, exchange of memory + HDD replacement

    Hello
The first problem is with the network card in my laptop. It seems to work OK in windows (it looks fine in Device Manager, I can change settings etc) but it doesn't recognize any cable. I must say that I have enough experience on the networks. I tested the two straight through and crossing of the cables that work in other systems. I connected to a switch with a straight through cable, but don't see the network card. No. led flashes on the card (before he did)... nothing. It says "disconnected network cable" on the status bar. If I use a usb instead, with the same parameters and cable network card, everything is I checked the card using a cd live linux. It can identify the map, but I can't ping it and of course it is not regognise no cable.
I'm 99% sure that it's a hardware problem. It is covered by the limited warranty of 2 years, right? The main question is: is the card integrated on motherboard of the laptop? Should I change motherboard too, in order to correct the network card?

The second "problem" is a memory module. I checked with utility of a toshiba who said that the ram is faulty. Toshiba service sent me information for the Exchange since 09.11.2004 with the State shown above:
    Current status - Description
Announcement - gathered information on the unit and the customer and the service center was informed. The unit did not here yet.

Can someone help me with this? I'm looking for when the module will be available? I can't be based on a faulty ram memory!

And one last question. I would like to change my hard drive for a faster. I can change it myself or it will cause a problem with the warranty?

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi sub,.

You're right about the guarantee. Your machine is trembling warranty of 2 years. If the network card is faulty it can not be changed separately. You need to change the motherboard. Be careful with warranty. Do not change the only hardware components. You can lose it.

In your case, there are a few hardware problems. In my opinion the best way is to contact the after-sales Service of Toshiba partner. Visit this link

It of very difficult to understand what you mean but I think that you want to update the memory.
AFAIK This oldie was equipped with internal memory of 64 MB.
If you want you can upgrade memory for max 192 MB (64 MB + 128 MB)

You can use the PA2062U 128 MB SDRAM module.
These modules are very rare, because the new series of notebooks don't support this type of modules!

I just tried in BT 8.5.1. I see a delay like Marc. I think that the problem has to do with the constant decline. When I change the constant "table initialization" to control, he can't bend, then "delta t 1" becomes 0. In any case, it's usually closer to reality.

It seems that LV has copy constant (in BT 8.5) folded table when it is passed to a Subvi.

This indicates the amount of free memory you have on your client. If this number is higher than normal or not depends on the amount of RAM you have on the physical client. Free memory is higher than in your races?

VMmark assumes that you have at least 4 GB of RAM for each client (physical or virtual), so you can have more than that. Usually, I see that about 1 GB of memory on the client is consumed during a VMmark run, so for a client memory 4GB, 3000 MB will be free according to this metric.

If you attach your file of results in this post, I can check your race to see if LoadGen / Mailserver works normally.
