I have a desktop HP Pavilion with Windows 8 and a HP Officejet 4500 printer. I get a "printer offline" message when I try to print - even when the printer is turned on and connected to the radio. I find when I uninstall the printer and reinstall, it works very well for a day or two. But then the problem comes back. I need a permanent solution to this problem. You don't know if it's important but uses Avast security program.

    Looks like you have a problem with the mode 'sleep'.  There are only a few things you can try when this happens.  First of all, make sure that the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet.  If you have connected it to a surge protector or power stirp, he cannot get enough power to wake up.  The only other thing you can do is to ensure that the latest firmware is installed.  You can find the instructions below.

    Make sure the printer connected to your router by Ethernet.

    Unplug the router for 30 seconds, plug back in and try printing again.

    If it persists, try resetting the following printing system and check if this may help you:

    * Be aware that reset the printer system will eliminate any existing queue and reset all custom settings driver.

    Click on the Apple menu and then click on System Preferences.
    Select Print & Scan.
    Right click (or Ctrl + click) your product with the Printers list in the left panel and then click on reset printing system.
    Click OK to confirm the reset.
    Type your user name and password.
    Click OK. The printing system resets.

    Now add the printer by clicking on the sign more.
