Microsoft family safety: speed and privacy

Once the Microsoft family safety is configured how it denies access to the site?  It will check each URL we enter with a remote server that contains the database of child friendly Web site? Or the database is local to the computer so that the entire process is fast and privacy is intact. Use the online checking increase latency and the slowdown in demand if the online server is what security for the family.

Also why the process is so complicated. We can have a local database, no need id live and just what the pc will show sites friends families and get the updates for local db for filtering as an AV.
Is there a third party solution that offer local db. ?

Hi sekhar,.

Security URL families is recorded on the servers for the reason that it will be updated regularly.

Let us know if you have further information about parental controls. We will be there to help.

Thank you.

    Original title: Microsoft family safety

I would like to know if anyone else has problems with their security settings for the family microsoft for minors does not not accordingly.  He worked for a few months, then the sections of restriction has been changed.  You used to be able to assign access during specific hours and block the other hours, but now its only giving the ability to allow access from any given time.  This does not work either.  All parameters have been set, but the account is able to log on during all hours of the day and the time spent on the computer is not being connected either!  I need help please.  The only other option at this point which is proof of the failure is to completely deny access completely, but I don't think that's fair.  Someone, anyone, please give me some advice.

  • Microsoft Family safety began just prevent Chrome GMail and Google Reader works on a child account - anyone know why?

I am running Windows 7 and use parental control for several years.  My kids use Google Chrome with GMail and GoogleDrive for a lot of their homework.  In recent days on the child accounts Chrome slow down considerably with the message "establish a secure connection" when it starts for centuries, and then finally "Gmail App is not available".  After trying everything else (cookies, compensation, disabling extensions, historical disconnect account) I turned off parental control of Microsoft, and Chrome came back to life.  I've now changed the security settings to "block adult sites" to "warn on adult sites" and Chrome works very well.  I'm not happy to leave this setting to warn but need to at the moment, so that they can do their homework.  Is this a Microsoft problem or is there anything else I can try to solve it?

  • Windows Family Safety API from c# 8?

Someone knows a good way to access the new Windows 8 parental from c#? Or any other programming language or scripting tool also?

I want to write a small program that would connect to the Microsoft Family Safety website and check a number for a child is standing.

I often allow full web access (temporarily) leave my child work on projects and then forget to turn it off. Thus ranks more games and bad. That's why I need the app: current settings to check several times a day and warn me if restricting web access has been disabled.

In Windows 8, they leave the Windows GUI access to this web site: http://familysafety.microsoft.com. I don't know there is a way to access from Windows via a kind of API (I have Windows installed on another computer 8.1). I can't depend on the analysis of HTML pages, and an app like this is going to die the moment they change the web site (which is at any time).

    No documentation on MSDN.

I found a few tips here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5711277/change-users-parental-control-settings-using-wmi-in-c-sharp but this appears to be an old API that does not access the accounts the on the computer on which it is called. I need to connect to all that is the equivalent of http://familysafety.microsoft.com (I'll pass the info to login) and then read the settings.

  • Family Safety Windows blocking is not enough

I have activated Windows parental controls for a child account on Windows 8.1 and disabled all applications that are registered except Chrome.

I tested and it blocks a lot of things, but allows much more than just Chrome.

I disabled the downloads in the center of the family, but downloading files via Chrome still works.

Once connected was - this child account, I opened regedit and was able to tinker around in the registry and change everything that can create or modify a standard user account.

Notepad works.  I created a .bat with some commands file and saved to the desktop.  Then, I clicked on it and run the script without any problems.

Turn off all the sliders to block applications seems to give a false impression that the user is locked a lot more than they really are.

Are there other applications and executable blocking settings that can be activated in the parental control?

How can I set this up so that the child's account runs, which is expressly authorized in the white list and no other programs such as regedit, notebook, random scripts, etc.. ?

I want this Windows system either as malware as possible evidence all being usable for surfing the web like a Chromebook, but this does not do.

If the download blocking only works for IE, I couldn't remove Chrome in the list allow applications, but this still does not resolve the other issues listed.

  • Windows 8 family safety does not.

Windows 8, parental control does not work.  He said "this account is being watched..." "and he's being watched, but I can navigate to all adult sites, even if the family safety settings are set to block.

SOLVED!  I found the answer.  You must set the rating system in Microsoft Family safety.  I chose the premiera (Classification operations Commission)

Without this setting, no site will be blocked.

  • Remove adult children of family safety

Recently, I got the email about changes in family safety... My son is now an adult and still using the same email and I had completely forgotten I had it put in place a decade ago.  He uses his hotmail account professionally now, I put then, how can I make sure all security guards here when he was 11 are not impacting on his email account now?

    Hi Trish,

We are happy to help you in this regard.

I understand from your post that you want to remove all settings from the parental controls on your child's account. You can do this by accessing the Family Safety website and checking if your child's account is always configured. Please follow these steps:

    1. connect to https://familysafety.microsoft.com using the parent account.

    2. it should display a list of child accounts. If you see your child's account, click manage the list of the members of the family.

    3. check on behalf of the child, and then click Remove. Click delete again to confirm.

Please let us know if you need more information.

    Additional details
Hi, my 14-year-old bought her own laptop.  I installed Windows life family safety (WLFS) and linked to his user name on the site WLFS.
    (1) first he told me he wasn't, and we discovered that Kaspersky Anti-virus is blocking define us as a reliable application and password protected for the antivirus software.  WLFS SHOULD ALERT PARENTS TO THIS POTENTIAL SECURITY BREACH.
    (2) then he told me that he could disable the parental control via the control panel: > Panel > user accounts and Family Safety > Parental control > provider Elite > [click here] 'None' versus "WLFS." WLFS SHOULD ALERT PARENTS TO THIS POTENTIAL SECURITY BREACH.
This is alarming!   What is the best way to solve this problem?  Shouldn't Microsoft remove this feature from the control panel or password protect or something?   Is there another solution besides me being an administrator on his laptop?  How he would be able to make changes on their own computer if I did?   We are very angry;  WLFS has worked great for us so far!  Help, please!

Thank you for taking your time!  In fact, we have been successfully in Kaspersky parental control for him.  He is now 15.  WLFS program works very well for my 10 years, who doesn't know much about computers and has never entered a "Control Panel" of his own volition and don't know what to do when she got in there!  My son has another question: had taken programming and is autonomous led to learn more about computers.

Last year, he bought his own SERVER to run its multi-player online game!

  • family safety issues - have not received activity reports

    Original title: family safety issues

I created an account for a child more than a week and had no activity reports.  When I log into my account, click on the family, and then my son's name he says no accounts are active for him. I have everything turned on and implemented. Don't know what's the problem? I tried the option to turn on family safety on an existing Childs account. I drag the right side of the screen, select settings, change laptop settings, click accounts and I can't go any further. My watch account only and not my Childs (it doesn't have its own account on sound / this tablet).  the instructions say select other accounts, but it is not an option. OT: The family safety report.

On my report it says that a blocked site has been visited 120 times. How is this possible when it is blocked?

    Hello

Thanks for posting the request in Microsoft Community Forums.

Have you checked by accessing the site blocked in the child's account to see if it's blocked or not?

Safe family activity reports will include sites that are visited but blocked. Also, sites that was redirected from other sites, or use a feature of this site (such as the Facebook Like function and share) will add also upward to the activity report.

  • Family safety does not wab browsing activity report

    Hello

I set up parental controls for a child almost a year back

and it has worked perfectly until about a month.

Now he sends to empty activity reports

claiming that it was not any web browsing activity.

But I know for a fact that this activity takes place.

Is anyone know how fix/Debug this?

    I already checked that:

-Name of the PC comes to /familysafety.microsoft.com

-On the website: date/time of last activity reported for this PC

is correct and up to date

-On the website: 'Activity tracking' is on 'ON' for the child

-On the PC: WPCMon is NOT running (in Task Manager)

If I log in as a child, or like me

-On the PC: Family Safety icon appears in the taskbar.

When I connect as a child popup icon says:

    "Family safety monitors your account."

    Thank you!

    Hello

    1. which antivirus program is installed on the computer?

    2. what type of internet connection do you use? Is it wireless or wired?

This problem normally occurs when the parental control settings are not configured correctly or recording. You may need to configure the settings to see if it helps.

You can check this by blocking a Web site and try to access it from the browser. Also, make sure that the child's account does not use proxy connections.

You can also update the family safety filter and check the results.

How to update the family safety filter?

Also, you can disable the antivirus if installed some and check.

    Caution:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  • child of family safety are not online

I have two children, including one with a Windows 7 PC and a Windows 8.  I tried to set up security for the family for two children, but only the Windows 7 account appears "off-line".

I can see the Windows 8 child account if I log into the administrator account on the computer of Windows 8, but he does not appear in my online safety for the family page.

I read the Windows 8 and I have found totally useless - HELP online help!

    Thank you
    Paul DS.

If I understand correctly, the PC of Windows 8 is not yet connected to the Family Safety website and is only run locally.  If you want to manage using several devices online, you will need to do the following:

On your PC of Windows 8 at the splash screen, look for "accounts:, and then select"Add, remove and manage other user accounts".»  You should see your child accounts listed on this page.  Below, there should be a link "manage online parental control settings.  Click on this link - that's what says Windows 8 to sync with the settings that you have stored online.

When you have connected to your Microsoft Account (sound), you should see your PC under Windows 8 under the section 'Apply to these devices' page.  If you wish, you can also bind the user names, so that you get only one report per child, regardless of the device used.

Note that you need slightly different options on this page when you log out of a Windows 7 or Windows 8 device (for example, curfews are set in increments of one hour for Windows 7 and Windows 8 half-hour increases and more).  Time benefits are also a feature of Windows 8 only - so please do not expect it to work on Windows 7.

I hope this helps.  Let us know if it isn't.
