  I have my windows 8 installation with the assurance that my products purchased from Microsoft survive the 8 Windows Reinstall "refreshed". Well all the Microsoft products were there but would not work. Each gave the error for rerinstall the product I did no problem except for the problem with the streets of travel & which still exists and is completely ignored by Microsoft, according to my research. The error is: "a licensing initialization error has occurred. Please contact customer support for further assistance. Error 0xC004D301 ". I tried all the suggestions that I have met on the internet. The most galling was given by Microsoft technology in its response to this problem. "The license data is probably corrupted" OK, makes sense, BUT how can I fix that you genius.   Success!  Hi John, I don't know if this will solve your problem because I am running windows 8.1 and tries to install streets & trips 2011.  But I had a similar symptom that you knew.  Here's what I did: just right-click on the icon in the start menu, select programs and features.  Uninstall all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010, I had two.  Then I opened the installation dvd in Explorer, click right on dvdrun, marked the area run as long as administrator (not sure if it did anything or not), hit apply, then double clicked on dvdrun and everything worked.  I could install, validate, save, and run the program!
  A warning, I don't know what are the potential problems that may result in removing these two programs, I hope that if I run into something I can install them again without too much trouble.

  The reason why I am interested in the free disk space on your C partition, it is that it would appear reasonable to perform an in Place Upgrade. To do this, the more satisfactory is to download a copy of Windows 7 on one partition other than C and run together to the top from there. You can then repair the installed copy of Windows 7on your C partition. All you then need to do is install all Windows updates after SP1 update. All programs and data files remain unchanged.

  I thank all participants for their contributions on my problem captioned.

  As I mentioned in one of my previous answers for myself, for me, this issue is now closed.  Microsoft support has accepted my MS Streets & Trips w / GPS for a full refund.  At least, support staff, that I spoke acknowledged that ST2011 was known to be incompatible with W7P SP1 and they offered a full refund.

  A number of responses I received offered possible solutions that I had tried and has said on this subject in previous updates (for example, to run the installation of the data .msi on the installation CD).  Then I still had possession of the ST2011 software, I don't was not informed of Microsoft resetting tool mentioned by Mike L. Robbins, so I can't say if that than me by my installation problems.  Be it, everything is sent to Microsoft.

  I can only hope that if Microsoft releases streets & trips 2012 which does not inherit problems, I lived.  In my view, this thread can be closed now.  Thanks to you all.
