Microsoft Update continues to request updated KB2518864, KB2572073, KB2633880, after that install and says it's successful. I tried to install 4 times.

I tried to install the update of the files KB2518864, KB2572073, KB2633880 four times after whenever I would say it was well built. When I went to search for files to delete files before you try to download the files again and reinstall it using the Add/Remove on my Windows XP SP3, I was unable to locate the files. The only way I found to fix this was to remove the registry entries manually using regedit and use the file search feature and delete the files I found manually so. Then I had to update windows to inform instead of automatic download. I tried the Fix Center file also although did not. I can't locate these files to download on either windows update page.  If these files exist and need to be installed then I expect that Microsoft's COMPUTING service get this fixed a problem. My computer is a home based upon a business Edition step.

Is it possible from a different drive to boot and then by applying some changes that would stop it. At the time when the computer is unusable, it just starts to "configuration updated 3/3" then restarts.

    Hello

    Try these methods.

    Method 1:

You have to do a cold start, press and hold power for a few seconds (10).

Wait a minute or two and turn it back on.

Make sure that "all the" non-essential devices are disconnected. (USB keys (for example, flash drives) or any other external media like this takes place.).

If you can, start safe mode.

Start your computer in safe mode with network.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

NOTE: see 3 from the link above, Advanced options boot (including safe mode).

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

Select Mode safe mode with networking.

    Method 2:

    Use the system restore feature:

    (a) click Start, type system restore in the Search box or search programs and filesand then click on the system restore under the programs section.

    (b) on the System Restore page, click Next.

    (c) select a restore point during which you know the operating system works, and then click Next.

The restore point should be a date that precedes the first time you encountered the problem.

NOTE: If you use system restore when the computer is in safe mode, you can't undo the restore operation.

    Data loss caveat:

Be sure to back up data that you want to keep before you begin. This is to ensure that there is no loss of data.

    Method 3:

    Step 1:

To avoid this problem on Windows Vista, obtain and install update 937287 from the Microsoft Download Center separately from all other updates on Windows Update site. Install the update that applies to your version of Windows Vista so that you are able to install future updates.

A software update is available for the Windows Vista installation software feature

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/937287/en-us

The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

    Windows Vista x 86 systems

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?amp;displaylang=en&ID=15287

    Windows Vista x 64 systems

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?amp;displaylang=en&ID=23732

    Step 2:

Save the update to a location on your hard drive, you can find and then install the update from there.

Download, *Save* and install the update with no security (antivirus/security suite) software installed, disconnect from the Internet, disable the firewall & close all non-essential processes in the Task Manager.

    Disable antivirus programs and firewalls.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

    Windows Firewall

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/firewall-frequently-asked-questions

Note: Make sure that you enable the antivirus software, other security and firewall after the test programs.

    Caution:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

I also recommend taking off of USB keys (for example, flash drives) or any other external media, as this takes place.

When the file is downloaded, see these steps.

    (a) right -click on the file and

    (b) select run as administrator from the menu.

    Check if it helps.

  • Windows XP SP3: Update KB2518864, KB2572073 and KB2633880

Something is obviously wrong in one or more encodings to the Microsoft Updates title, otherwise so many computers Windows XP would not have the problem "constantly repeat Windows Update" (AND it IS * A PROBLEM *).  May I suggest to implement Microsoft a "Fixit" that addresses this particular combination of updates more PRECISELYand then post prominently on the home page of Windows support?

I tried the proposed solution "Windows Update repair", and simply, it does not work for this problem.  Thank you very much ~

At the time that the laptop does not work and I have no idea what updates have been downloaded and installed.

    Hello

Try the methods provided below and check if that helps.

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

Try to boot in safe mode with network and check if you are able to boot to the desktop.

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If you are able to start the office try to download and run a system scan using the Microsoft Safety Scanner full and check if that helps.

    Microsoft safety scanner

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

    Note:
The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

    Method 2:

    Clean boot

If the problem does not persist in safe mode you can also perform the clean boot.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

See the following article in the Microsoft KB for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

    Note:

After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

    Method 3:

Try the system restore by using the System Recovery Options.

The System Recovery Options menu is on the Windows installation disc. The menu can also be installed on your drive hard if your computer has preinstalled recovery options.

Thank you very much for your help,

What were the problems you saw that you thought a "clean install" of Windows XP could solve?

This "clean install" included formatting the HARD drive?

The "clean install" left you with WinXP WinXP SP1, WinXP SP2 or WinXP SP3 gold (no Service Pack)?

What application or antivirus security suite is installed and your current subscription?  What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications?  What third-party firewall (if applicable)?

A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on the computer (for example, a test free version comes preinstalled when you buy it and that would have been reinstalled, but invalid, when you did the clean install)?

You receive an error code "0 x 80246002" when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates:
