  • Cannot install Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1.

This is my first post so im sorry if I don't give many details about my problem.

Im trying to install Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1, but whenever I open it I get a pop-up message saying "Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 requires at least .NET Framework 2.0", but that's not true, I have the .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 installed. Then I uninstalled then re-installed and then tried to install XNA 3.1 switched off, but she appeared again.
I searched many sites to help until I posted it and nobody seems to have my specific problem, im full of ideas, I ran each repair tool of the .NET framework from the Microsoft site and it does not work please someone help me with my problem.
Im running windows vista 32 bit.

I finally solved my problem, it seems that some things from registry were missing for .net 2.0, I discovered because I fell recently an advisor to upgrade to windows 7 and it installed .net 2.0 for me without fail. I hope that if anyone else has this problem, they can do what I did. Cheers!

In the article I posted above, he says mscoree.dll could fail to update during the installation of .NET framework 4, and the Setup program may not be aware of it. Go to your windows system32 or syswow64 folder and check the properties of mscoree.dll - if it's version 2.0 instead of 4.0 then the .NET framework has not been installed correctly. See this article for more information.

I checked mscoree.dll in my system32 folder and in the properties-> details, it indicates the version of the file / version of the product is 2.0.50727.4927 and last modified on 06/10/2009 16:40. Several messages later, one of the "nbeerbower" users seem to have found a solution:

Hey everybody! I had exactly the same problem! In fact, none of my programs using .NET 4 would work! But I searched the internet to fix this bug.

The problem is the result of .NET 4 installer never update .NET 2 mscoree.dll. So, here's the new dll and some instructions on how to solve this problem.

    http://www.Megaupload.com/?d=MBCL8TKC
(if for some reason any you do not approve the download see here http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vssetup/thread/a09baa85-635d-420c-a88a-de05f75c8140 to get otherwise)

Hi, I'm nbeerbower. I have trouble with my .NET 4.0 and it generated an error 2908 Installing XNA which is necessary for terrariums.
The problem is, because for some reason any .NET 4 does not update .NET 2 mscoree.dll.
Here is a "kit" to help you fix it.

    1. open take Ownership.reg and add registry keys. This allows you to easily replace mscoree.dll
    2. go in Windows/system32 (if you have a x 64 OS also do the SAME procedure in the Windows/SysWOW64 folder)
    3. find mscoree.dll and right click and take Ownership(you can alsocheck properties and see version, if it's 2.00 then this fix will work!)
    4. replace the included mscoree.dll
    5. repeat in SysWOW64 so you have a 64 bit OS

    Have fun!

    -nbeerbower

P.S., Make sure that you restart your computer after!

This solves the problem for users, but I have a problem. Of course the Megaupload link no longer works and the other link.

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vssetup/thread/a09baa85-635d-420c-a88a-de05f75c8140,

    also has links; This, specifically:

    2. Rename mscoree.dll.  It is a real pain.  Go here for the instructions (not for the fainthearted): http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/setupprerelease/thread/150d05c4-4df4-47ec-b7a6-a66f3a55cd08

It can also be connected to the issues I had with installing the .NET Framework v4.0:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-windows_programs/NET-Framework-initialization-error/21d069d4-44b7-403a-9e1f-de6d75ffdc36

Any help or the other problem is appreciated. It seems that other users have solved the problem, so there is probably a solution hidden in one of the threads that I missed.

Hey there fellow. From the outset, I would apologize for bumping this thread if the OP found a satisfactory solution to their particular issue - as well as an apology to resurrect a debate closed if it's already been resolved.

I came across this problem, try to run a particular game that required the .net framework version 4; a game that I had literally played earlier the same day. I use 32 bit Windows 7, so that the details of my solution may or may not be applicable to your situation. What I did to fix my problem was simply to repair my installations of .net Framework extended and .net Framework 4 Client Profile. After this, I restarted my computer, uninstalled my XNA Framework and reinstalled. After that, the game starts and runs without a problem.

Not sure if my problem was an exception or if it will help someone else situation, but I thought I'd post my experience just in case it would be of any help. Good luck out there.

  • [Help on Bastion (game)] XNA 3.1 / end ++ error.

    Hey there.

Sorry if this isn't the right section; But it's a problem WITH a game. But not the game itself.

I tried to play the Bastion today, I just bought steam. I noticed that it was unable to install XNA 3.1.

    I then decided to check the forums so I could find an answer;

    1. A lot of people said I should check "Turn on or off windows features" but I see an empty window.
    2. Many people told me to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition" and then try to install XNA. I got a different error message (check below)
    3. I tried to install XNA 4.0 instead of XNA 3.1; The game doesn't always work.
    4. I tried to install an older Version of .net Freamework. A window pops up saying "Turn on or off windows features" (empty window, remember?)
    5. I tried to install the latest version of .net Framework. Installed. Nothing happened.
    6. My 'Programs and features' section says I end ++ 2008 Redistributable in the next versions, 2005 (9.0.30729 / 9.0.30729.17 / 9.0.30729.4148 9.0.30729.6161), 2010 (10.0.40219) none of these is not repairable, or uninstalled.
    7. Tried with: sfc/scannow. Says he can't do it for some strange reason.
    8. Tried with Microsoft FixIt. No error found.
    9. Tried the update system. I can't. It shows a weird error code.
    10. Tried to check the Regedit, but nothing happened. CCleaner also (even though he did not recommend to do).

    XNA says:

An error occurred during the installation of Assembly "Microsoft.VC90.CRT, version ="9.0.21022.8", publicKeyToken ="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"," processorArchitecture ="x 86", type "win32".
See Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0 X 80070422

    VISUAL C++ says:

See Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0 X 80070422

    "Problem WITH a game"

Probably the key words. Most of the games install C++ versions they use.

I've never had a problem with C++, and this is the first I've heard of the 2008 edition of "Express".

and do not know what it includes, so I can only say that whatever version this game uses.

It looks that you have not installed yet, as you seem to have all 19 versions of

    C++ (including X 64 versions) that I have.

-If the Steam version of the game does not install the necessary C++ try, install the 64-bit version

    C++ 2010 (assuming that your version is the X 86 (32 bit).

This is X 64, but the X 86 version link is further down on the page as well.

Download: Details Package redistributable Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 (x 64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download

May as well be preventive and install both versions also 2012 (both versions are in a single download).

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-AU/Download/details.aspx?ID=30679

After the installation of C++, restart and try again to install (or update) the steam game.

You can also try the option "verify integrity of game Cache" in games

    Properties > local files.

"... "Turn on or off windows features" but I see an empty window."

-Hmm - not even a "Please wait" message while the list fills?

XNA is supposed to be listed in Windows features when it is installed?

"Tried to update system. I can't. It is said a weird error code. »

-Are you referring to the Windows updates? The "weird error code", what exactly?

-C' is perhaps the reason sfcscannow does not repair C++ is that they are not part of Windows.

My understanding is that versions of C++ settle for Windows are libraries that are

    accessible by various software.

-Unlike the C++ libraries, more recent versions of .NET are cumulative so if you. NET4.5 installed

you shouldn't have one of the earlier versions.

    Hi KelMil,

1 Windows operating system you are using?

    2. what software are you trying to install?

    Method 1:

You can consult the following thread link and try the steps Diana D December 1, 2010 and check if it helps.

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly ' Microsoft.VC80.ATL,.

    Method 2:

You can also try to give permission for the two above mentioned registry keys. Check for multiple entries, registry keys, and give permission to all keys.

    a. click Start, type regedit in the search box and press on ENTER.

    b. click on edit and select find and type the copy and paste the registry key: {837EE547-6D3B-7124-817B-A0DDC38CDA99} and click Next.

    c. right-click on the key component and select permission.

    d. click Add, type everyone and click ok.

    e. Select group or the user name one by one and check the complete control of the area for all.

    f. click apply, click Ok.

    g. check for multiple entries for the key. If one is present, then repeat the steps above to give perimmision to all keys.

Note: You must give permission to the {182C2188-3F15-CE6C-1FC2-23A0CB4637D1} key by following the steps mentioned above.

    h. restart the computer and check.

Important: The above mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps from the link below:
