Mirroring hard drives

Hello

I have three hard drives on the same computer with windows XP pro.

C: drive have windows XP, and the other two drives D and E are two hard disks with the same size of storage.

Question:

Is it posible to reflect the two drives D and E?

Whereas, whenever someone writes a file in D or E, it would automatically create a copy in the other drive. This is for backup protection, so that if a disc is damaged the other disk information.

Thank you

You are talking of RAID 1 mirroring?

RAID 1 (mirroring) is not a backup solution. RAID 1 uses two or more readers, each one duplicate of the other, to provide redundancy, no backup. It is used in situations (almost always within companies, not in homes) where no matter what city can be tolerated, because the way it works is that if a disk fails the other takes seamlessly. Although some people thing of RAID 1 as a backup technique, it'snot what it is, because it is subordinate to the simultaneous loss of the original and the mirror to many dangers more currents that threaten your data - serious seeds of power, near lightning, virus attacks, stolen computer, etc.. Most companies that use RAID 1 also have a solid plan of external backup in place.

  • Qosmio G20-108: RAID-> new HARD drive replacement - he does not want to mirror

I have a laptop G20-108. The raid was quite happilly mirroring then Hdd2 failed. I removed the disk dirve and replaced by a new one [seagate 100 GB sata 150], but he does not want to mirror?

The stuff of aide said she should recognize a new hard drive with a context menu? I do not have it, but when you click on the console's hard drive icons both say that they are what they should be, but they are both "affected"? Nine should be disconnected not online? should we not say reconstruction?
I tried pressing the raid button turn off but it wouldn't let me!

Help how to leave the raid console know it is a new drive and should rebuild Hdd1?

    Hello
For the use of toshiba (stripping or Mirroring) RAID, you must have two identical drives. Your G20-108 model comes with 120 GB (60 + 60), two hard drives. If you bought a 100 GB hard drive, certainly it will not work.

Try this, and you will have no problems:
Make sure that the disks are identical; You can use two different brands, if they are the same size and speed, but it's a BAD IDEA, just get two new hard drives, same brand and size and you make life simple.

  • How to use the second HARD drive of Satellite A210 - BP1 for mirroring

Satellite A210-BP1 came with 2 HDD (160 GB).
Now, I want to use the second hard drive mirrored the first, one that has Vista installed.
This should be done without supervision and in real time - as a RAID 1.

    How can I do this?
I also have Vista professional available and I would be willing to use 3rd party software as well.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Hi Jan

I doubt that this is possible
Why? The point is that you need to use two hard drives in mirroring, RAID striping, mode etc technology
Satellite A210 can't RAID. It s only a SATA controller without RAID capacity!

Therefore, the final answer is; NO, it is not possible to use mirroring

  • Trash mirror on the secondary hard drive

I am running win xp sp3. I have a secondary drive. This disc has a file called "Regenerator" which reflects the trash on my main drive. I have the trash to manage two readers separately and each has a different percentage of the hard drive. Why - this file is 'Recycle' mirror trash of the primary drive? What can I do about it? It uses valuable space. Thanks in advance for your help.

Windows will not move files and folders deleted to a disk or another.

In addition, when you send files and folders to the Recycle Bin, the physical files are still in the same location on disk.

the files and folders are indexed is by the Explorer, but instead are now being indexed to the trash.

as a result, what you see probably is a mirror of the table / index of the name of file and folder names.

index no greater than the amount of disk space through the physical files and are in fact using folders.

Moreover, even after you empty the trash, files and folders are still on the disk and can be recovered using any undelete program.

That being said, if you really want to find free space after the Recycle Bin empty-ing, you will need to wipe the free space of each disc with a cloth from disk.

then I do a check disk and Defrag afterwards.

  • Mirror laptop hard drive on a desktop machine?

Is there an easy way to mirror-image the entire contents - OS, registry, programs, files, etc. - on the hard drive to a desktop computer?

The Office has an operating system and works very well.  I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to load to the top of every program and file and then tweak until I get on the assessment of what I currently have on the laptop.

    In a Word, no.

The reason is that when you install Windows, it loads the drivers for the network adapter, CPU, graphics card, disk interface card, etc. that are used on this computer.  I guess it would work if you found another computer with exactly the same motherboard, chipsets, graphics cards, (in other words, everything), but to find a desk that has the same hardware as a laptop would be incredibly rare.  In addition, some computer manufacturers have BIOS-locked versions of Windows and you would have problems of validation of your copy of Windows on a computer that has a different BIOS.

  • How to make a mirror image as a backup copy of my hard drive, including the OS Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it?

I have an external enclosure. Could someone tell me where to go and read in detail in the white point step by step how to:
1 make a backup mirror image of the hard drive of pc, including partitions and BONES...
    2. how to set it up so that I could record any change of hours produced in saved copy by doing in the future just an incremental backup every time (of only what has changed since the last backup).

I would appreciate any detailed explanation of procedures.

    Thank you kindly.

You can create the backup to an external drive instead of DVD.

Repairing system drives help you start the recovery process of fixing problems starting or using the image to restore windows.

The image does not replace an installation disk - they are a little different.

  • on my iCloud drive files take up space on my hard drive?

I'm always running out of space on the hard drive of my MacBook Pro. The most important issue seems to be the library and Documents Mobile is the largest. But when I look inside I find the name of the folder as if by magic going on MacBook Pro / My Files / Library / Mobile Documents for MacBook Pro / My Files / library / iCloud Drive.  I thought that the purpose of paying extra for space on my iCloud drive should free up space on my hard drive.

Am I what's on my hard drive on my laptop iCould mirroring drive?  Is there a way to stop this?

iCloud is a synchronization system, not an external 'hard drive '. If you delete them from your computer, they will delete icloud.

  • Qosmio G30 - RAID may not reflect new 500 GB HARD drive

I have installed 2 new identical 500 GB hard in my Qosmio G30 with Windows XP.

The system works well, but the disc cannot be mirrored. Report of the Raid Controller is 'Normal Operation status.

This disk cannot be used for mirroring because it is outside the management of the RAID."

Who can tell me whether it is a disc error or is the drive of 500 GB to big for the toshiba with Windows XP raid controller?

    > Can anyone tell me if it of a disc error, or is the drive of 500 GB to big for the toshiba with Windows XP raid controller?

Hmm. I m not very good, but it could be possible that the 500 GB HARD drive is too big for the mirroring of the mode.

But have you tried to change the mode in comforter Toshiba RAID you might find in Toshiba Assist-> Protect Fix & -> RAID Console

Check if you can switch to the mirroring.

By the way; RAID-1 is defined in the BIOS?
Usually, when you use RAID-1 configuration, the RAID is set to mirroring. In this case, the operating system recognizes the reduced ability to both hard drives (in your case, it is not important since you are using the two 500 GB HDD).

    Check it!

  • Qosmio G25-AV513 - can't find the 2nd HARD drive

The G25 AV513, isn't supposed to have 2 drives, one with 120 GB and the second with 60 GB? I see only a drirve in "My Computer".

I erased my computer and re-installed Windows XP operating system since the original CD Toshiba I chose option 3 "Striping" of readers. I'm supposed to see the two readers in "workstation? I have a total of 180 GB of memory? According to 'My computer' I see the C: drive and its total capacity is only 111 GB.

I also tried to reinstall the operating system using two other options, option 1 using installation default Toshiba who said I can mirror to another date by using RAID, but I got about 45 GB of memory with this option, and it was the same for option 2, although about 45 GB.

Once again, showing only a drive in "My Computer".

    > Isn't the G25 AV513 supposed to have 2 drives, one with 120 GB and the second with 60 GB?

This seems to be a series of Toshiba laptops we.
I searched a few details and found the info on the Toshiba page we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com

There are two hard drives (2 x 60GB)
You can check this in disk management and you will find the available disks.

I think you can see that a single (120 GB) HARD drive in my computer, because the two hard disks are merged because RAID settings in the BIOS!

Take a look in the user manual!

  • Need to retrieve the BONES but do not have the habit of losing data on the HARD drive

    Dear all!

For long time now, I tried to disable a Trojan horse or a worm, on my Windows XP Home (Home!) i.e. get rid of the cftmon_.exe, when I decided to follow the instructions from Symantec and pieces manually deleted from the register, I guess she was part USERINIT (turn off the system before restore and put on after the deletion).

It can be as well as I did not right, something after the fact that I have would be to end the session at the time the logon process has started. This is relatively known issue here, with different options.

-J' need to keep the data on two HARD drives.
    -I have no other partitions.
-I don't know what I've got on one of them, which I could use to free space Recovery Expert mode.

    a. the fact that I want to take the option with Toshiba, which is Expert mode (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2513&tstart=125) as a last recovery, DVDs on

    b. I have trouble with the installation of the Recovery Console (with Windows XP (Professional!) original CD, 'R' for 'fix), but I would get the message "Setup has not found hard disk units installed in your computer"...
I understand that I would need to install the driver RAID (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=20093&messageID=73758) but I'm afraid that this may delete the data on the disc.

    My questions are the following:

1 install the RAID driver (downloaded from the Toshiba off site web http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/updates/raid-drv/raid-drv-qog20-xp-1380.zip and installed on the floppy drive I guess) so we hope to install the Recovery Console, and do the rest of the work, make data disappear my 2 (remove) HARD drives?

    2. If I use Toshiba Recovery DVD, Expert mode that is finally what is the size of partition should be recorded for the mirror on the half vacuum 1.HDD?, should I partition 2 HDD, after it backup and count data will be lost? Choose any setings special during the process, apart from those mentioned in the link above? What should I do after wards? The registry damaged when you logged in and how can I build? I will be able to use personal and archive data from Microsoft Outlook?

    3. is there a alternative with UBCD4Win and UBCD? What is the best? What is the procedure of after the start of the CD after reboot? How to copy/repair the userinit files?

I'm sorry for the load of information, but I am pretty stuck. All the necessary data for my normal life are buried here!

A big thank you JohnnyS, tw, Quad, Eldorado and many others!

    See you soon!

    Hi friend

I would like to respond on comments like yours, it s a good exercise for my work and my s really cool to have a few topics which will help all the people here.

JohnnyS is a friend of mine who works with me at our office and we talked a bit about your problem.
If his opinion is to use the UBCD4Win and work with this option.

    The advice from him were:

Take a USB - HDD enclosure and put a disk in it and start with UBCD4Win. Copy any important data in a folder on the external HARD drive, then remove the uneeded data on this subject. Only important data!
Make a backup of your data on the external hard drive for two HDD´s I hope that you have enough free space.

Format the drive in your machine and get it back. Install the system as usual on your first HARD drive.
    Then put the data anywhere.

So I don't know if I have it just ask, a little more explanation would be useful. I think that this is a long thread. ;)

    Welcome them

  • Satellite Pro L300 - how Windows easy transfer on the new HARD drive?

    Hello

I recently got a broken hard drive of a laptop larger than mine.

I would like to put in my computer, but I don't know what would be the way to transfer the partition of installation (or better yet also already installed windows partition).

Will I be able to reinstall linux in a few minutes, but for windows it's something else.
Do you have an idea of the procedure?

The best would be to make a mirror copy, or something like that for me, to have just to extend the size of some partitions.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I recommend the creation of an image.
You can create either an image that contains only the content of a partition or the whole HARD disk content.

There are different image on the market tools. For the most part, you will pay for this software.
But you can also use an internal utility for Microsoft Windows 7. Its share of the Win 7 system.

If you are using Windows 7, I recommend this solution.

Here's a nice page of Microsoft on this tool and how to do it:

  • Qosmio F30 - installing the new hard drive

    Hello

I just installed a new hard drive on my Qosmio F30 - he came originally only with a 60 GB hard drive.

The second disc is identical to the first in every way, i.e. of 60 GB drive Toshiba.

I initialized the new drive and it also shows online and unallocated. I want to use the reader to basically increase my quality, not like a mirror and so chose this option using the RAID Utility.

However when I expelore the C drive, it shows than the total capacity of the drives as 60 GB. I guess that both drives should be showing as a player, like 120 GB.

    The drive works properly?

    Thank you

    Hello

You can check in the BIOS if the second HDD is recognized correctly

As you say you don t want to use a mirror mode, but then you must set the RAID0 stripping!

Please also check the settings of the BIOS RAID!

At page 242 user manual you will find all the details on the different options and what they are for
