  I searched all day for a solution on my NEW out of the box (HP Photosmart C4680) printer.  I decided to use the scan option, so I opened the box and everything out of the box, remove all packing materials and tape, paper, etc.  Now, I plug the power supply cable (not USB), the printer does beep and a beep will sound and the screen comes on and power off.  It's just a blue screen that displays the logo of hp--(tours noir/arrêt et en arrière, encore et encore).  When I hold down the POWER button for 10 seconds, it turns off the printer (and the beep).  Turn it back on it does again ringing for about a half hour.  Then he turns to the language screen if he wants to, but the touchscreen works even not at all to select or scroll through the list.  And then if I open the door of the cartridge, the cradle only slips when he wants to and not all the time (certainly not when it beeps at startup pointing upwards).

  I tried to install the software in the hope that it might help.  But after hanging the printer usb cable once all the software has been installed, it is said that it recognizes not the printer or it is not be able to communicate with him.

  It is out of warranty.  Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

  Photosmart C4680 printer will print correctly. Problem follows:

  1. Press on print
  2. Printer makes a noise of switch for several seconds
  3. Athens printers normally feeding paper & prints correctly.

  Noise distribution is done before printing each page. Feeds correctly.

  What a pleasure to receive a response. Unfortunately, took all the steps without success. You took note of cliqueti noise that continues after all the inspection. I observe that the rattling noise occurs when the transport is on the right side of the printer. When you move the carriage to the left & with a flashlight, I saw a black glob in the extreme right under where the transport would be. What key it seemed to be a deposit of black as ink. Do not think that this isn't the ink as empty cartridge or showing empty.

  The printer has served faithfully for time Believe + 5 years came for the replacement. However, t would be nice to know how this has happened.

  I thank for the help & you can be sure that the replacement will be a model of HP.

  Is there an OCR software included with the Photosmart C4680?  I did a full install, but I can't scan to create editable text.  The aid function advises me to select a pdf in text can be added to the output, but this option is not given in the drop-down list.  The data sheet

  It works!

  And you were right, I had to uninstall and reinstall the PhotoSmart software before you install the OCR software.  I had updated to version 13 of PhotoSmart 12 version that was on the CD supplied with the printer.  I got the message "OCR application is not required" when I tried to install on version 13.   Uninstall and revert to the version 12 allowed me to then install the OCR.  I'll go with version 12, it has everything I need.

  I think it is strange that HP it so hard.  After successful installation, I changed from a customer who felt he was ripped off (after being sold nonexistent OCR) to a satisfied customer!  HP should at least have a link of his C4680 software page to the OCR software and indicates the software OCR is working on the C4600 series.

  Anyway, thanks a lot rhanman for your help and for the time and effort in replying to my query.  I greatly appreciate it.

• How to scan to PDF? I have the HP Photosmart c4680 printer and m7-1015dx Pavilion computer.

  How to scan in pdf format. I have printer hp photosmart C4680 & pc hp Pavilion m7-1015dx Entertainment, using the Windows 7 operating system.

  The computer only allows me to scan all the documents in for example jpeg photo format. My old computer has a program called HP solution center this permit scan me to PDF.  The new configuration of hp can only scan to the size of the photo. How can I fix it, so can scan documents to pdf format?

  If you have the paper guides, set against the paper and that you have cleaned the feed tires there is a good chance that there is a small piece of paper stuck in the paper path causing the paper be introduced an angle. You may need to lift the printer to look at the paper path.

  Please try the step and then try alignment process listed below.

  on the screen of the printer.

  1. Press the key SETUP (key), then
  2. Then press TOOLS,
  3. Press the CLEAN print head / cartridge.

  Make sure that the ink cartridges should be at least 25% full.

  Note: you need to repeat the above steps 2 - 3 times.

  If issue still persits, it could be a defective black cartridge or print head. In which case you could call the HP Technical Support for assistance.

  I installed Windows 8 Preview of consumer months ago.  Now, I get an installation error that does not affect the printer - it is fine as it is - and I can't do the install failed mended stop repeat whenever I want to use the printer.

  I'm guessing that the drivers are not compatible with this version of Windows, and the system tries to do a regular update of some sort.  Known issue?  If so, can I disable in order to install so that I'm not tying up of resources all the time?

  Download the installer of the software (for Vista and Windows 7) full of features on the link below and save it to the desktop of your new PC.

  Once the download is complete, right-click on the Setup on your desktop and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  If you want to use a wired connection, do not connect the PC to the printer until you are asked.

  You may consult the following link which deals with topics of paper jam.  Click here  I recommend that you follow all the steps in order to ensure that all areas of the printer have been erased.  A flashlight can be very useful.

  If this is not enough, you could try to do a complete Reset of the Semi.  If successful, this reset the default printer and clear the memory.  If the printer was on a wireless network, it should be removed and would need to be reconnected.  If you want to try it, I can send the steps in a private message to your Forums HP in-box.  I need you agree to not post the stages.  Let me know what you decide.

  I have upgraded to Windows Pro 8.1 (32 bit) and I was told that I had to update my drivers and software for my HP Photosmart C4680 printer to work with Pro 8.1. So I uninstalled all the drivers and software and even made a record of cleaning for you ensure that it has been uninstalled. I went to the HP support as suggested Pro 8.1 and proceed to download the software "compatible" and he went out and reached 99%, then disappear. I waited 15 minutes to see if he would have done to install and nothing happened. I did the Compatibility Test for it on 8.1 Pro and he says it's not compatible with 8.1. What gives and how I get this to install and works so I can use my printer?

  Follow the steps below and check if it solves the problem:

  1 open the Mcafee Virus and Spyware Protection software you are interested in, click on calendar and perform analyses. Click analysis in real time, and then click stop. Select until I restart the PC and confirm by clicking the button turn off.
  2. open the dialog box run by clicking on the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard. Type %windir%, and then click OK.
  3. type hpoins*.dat in the search bar at top, if there is that no result rename the extention in old instead of dat. (e.g. hpoins1.old)
  4. type hpwins*.dat in the search bar at top, if there is that no result rename the extention in old instead of dat. (e.g. hpwins1.old)
  5. start the Run dialog box by clicking the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard. Type MSIEXEC /Unregister. in the Run dialog box and click OK.
  6. launch the Run dialog box by clicking the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard. Type MSIEXEC/REGSERVER in the Run dialog box and click OK.
  7. run the installation file and check all difference.
