  I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 with Windows Update without problems or missing drivers.

  Later, I bought and downloaded Windows Pro 8.1 and burned the BONES on a DVD.  I have deleted all previous partitions and run the long version of the format of the hard drive.  Then I managed to do a clean installation of Windows Pro 8.1.  I had to reinstall drivers since the contents of the folder in C:\SWSetup saved from the previous operating system.

  I was not able to find the missing driver for hardware ID:

  ACPI\VEN_HPQ & DEV_0004
  ACPI\HPQ0004
  * HPQ0004

  Thank you for your time and your help.  However, this link to sp63786 would not install.  But your mention of HP 3D DriveGuard software installation was the key to me finding the right software/drivers.

  As I mentioned in my request for help, I tried again in the C:/SWSetup folder saved before reformatting the C drive.  I found the good HP 3D DriveGuard software in the subfolder "sp58423".  This installed perfectly and eliminated the unknown device message seen in Device Manager.  It is the solution.  For anyone buying Professional 8.1 Windows to install on a computer with Windows 8 or 8.1 pre-installed, let me point out to save C:/SWSetup and all of its subfolders.

  Thank you to put me on the right track to find my solution with HP 3D DriveGuard software!

  How fast is fast is the real question.

  Have you looked at hybrid drives OCZ? Expensive but probably the fastest option.

  Seagate also made a hybrid hard drive.  Good price... You will need a 3.5 "to 2.5" support if the player does not support.  If you install the drive in an empty optical Bay then you will need a 5.25 "to 2.5" support.

  Your other choice is 7 200 or 10 000 rpm traditional hard drives.

  Another option would be to add a PCI sata and two external hard dirves configured in RAID 0.

  I currently have problems with my computer's CD drive.  He has been unable to read discs of any kind of music, DVDS and software programs for several months now.  The main problem seems to be with an inability to properly install the driver for the cd drive.

  I have a Pavilion Elite m9250f running Windows Vista Home 64 bit. The computer currently has two 500 GB hard drives for a total capacity of 1 TB. I would like to add a third drive to increase storage capacity.  I have a SATA to 2 to and cables. When I tried to install the new drive above the two existing disks, he did not slide smoothly. When I removed the already highest reader, I could slide the new drive into but the screws are not line up properly with the new drive.   If the task under the existing optical Bay is open, just use an adapter to fill the space and to mount the drive in there.  Make sure of course that there is a power cord and a SATA port.
