Missing installation of Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition 2 disc
I had problems with my laptop and decided to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows. I discovered during the installation that I need a disc 2 for a complete installation. Since the operating system is installed on my laptop, I was not aware of this and have either lost or never had a disc 2.
Do you know where I can get/download a copy of any disk 2?

Install XP to Media Center Edition 2005 discs
Start my laptop I get the error "missing or corrupt hal.dll file" my problem is without XP Media Center Edition 2005 installation discs. Download anything from Microsoft? Or is there another way to get such an animal?
It of good that you have the CD and made sure it works in another system. If it is not useful for this, it can come in hand another day.
Now, it seems you might have a hardware problem.
You know the system brand and model?
Does the system beeps when you turn it on, it?
The beeps are codes that can help you understand what is wrong.
Generally, a short beep to the power up is a good sign.
If you hear beeps other, try to describe them in writing as best you can. His brief, two short, a short one long, three short films, etc.
Describe the beeps like this:
beep-beep-beep (3 short films)
beep-beeeeeeeep (1 short, 1 long)
beeeeeeep-beeeeeeep-beeeeeeep (3 long)
beep (2 short films)Tell us the brand and model of your laptop or details, you can so we can give you the best advice.
If you do not have the recovery CD of Console, there's power up (even with the other error message) or it will stop?
If the fans are running, it's good and if it was me, I unplug the laptop from the wall, remove the battery and open any Panel on the bottom I could open upward with too much force (you may need a screwdriver) and wiggle or disconnect and reconnect all what I see (which disconnects), which resembles a connection put back together and see if it lights correctly then.
You want to just take simple things like the RAM modules, cables, you can easily disconnect/reconnect the hard drive, etc just do one thing at a time, so you don't mix. Unplug the unit, plug it in...
Someone else may have other ideas.
Send me your computers off and I'll fix them or get back them for parts and donate to charity, or someone who can use it to a system that works.
Do, or do not. There is no test.

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum. The first thing I would say is to scan your system for viruses and malware. If he's found nothing, or after cleaning, the problems are corrected so I suggest trying a system restore. Here are the instructions for restoring the system: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084If this does not help, then you must run the System File Checker tool. This article explains the tool and how to make it work: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747

not a fan of the system restores, especially under xp, but if it did work at one point, what has changed on your system, since it worked?

How do uninstall you windows xp edition that has been installed on xp pro media center?
I want to uninstall windows xp media center edition because I think it's slowing down my computer and the computer unable to multitask. It was installed on xp pro. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hi KirkStratton,
You cannot uninstall Windows Media Center, it is an integral part of the operating system. You can stop the process of Media Center to run. After you have upgraded in the only way that you could go back to the previous version of Windows would be to perform a clean installation.
Follow these steps:
(a) open the menu 'Start', then click on 'Control Panel'.
(b) click on add or remove programs. Click on "access to default values and selection programs."
(c) click on 'continue' and check the "Custom" in the menu drop-down box.
(d) scroll down to the "Choose default Media Player" section.
(e) uncheck the box that says "enable access to this program" next to 'Windows Media Center'. Click OK.

1 - the steps used for "Toshiba Qosmio F30" and for others models Qosmio that comes with "Intel Centrino Duo" Cpu and Xp Media Center 2005 installed.
2. apply these steps if you have previous experience in the installation of Windows Xp, if you have that experience, then you can use the provided recovery CD to restore your system.
3 - Windows Xp Media Center Cd is not provided with your laptop, if you have the Cd you can purchase from many online shops and in this case you will get the product key valid Windows Xp which you'll not need (because you already have one, you will find in it a small sticker on the back of your laptop and you can activate your Windows with it).
In other words (you need for the first and the second Cd of Windows Xp Mce 2005 SP2 Oem).4. do not try to implement these measures on the other Versions of Windows Xp, use "Windows Xp Media Center Edition 2005 Sp2 Oem" only
5. you must have the Usb floppy drive to install "Toshiba Raid Controller", it can be installed that by having the driver on a floppy disk and pressing F6 during the setup of Windows Xp, if you do not install the Raid driver then will Windows Xp does not recognize your hard drive.

Problem installing Windows XP Pro/Windows Media Center Edition
A few years ago, I built a system which consists of MS Windows Media Center Edition. Recently, the hard drive failed. I replaced the drive with a 1 TB Seagate Barracuda SATA drive. Strangely, I can't reinstall MS Windows Media Center. To clarify... with MS Windows Media Center cd in the drive, the installation went well. The hard drive has been formatted and that the CD-ROM files have been hard disk messages were present. The next step was a reboot by MS Windows cd. This is where the installation fails. After the reboot, the Windows XP splash screen came as if the program Windows opened on your desktop. At halfway through the splash screen, the system restarts. Reboot forever more. I don't know what is happening. Anyone?

Done correctly, installation of SP3 will have as a side effect, a very beneficial: Extended Support for WinXP (x 86) SP2 ends July 13, 2010. After this date, computers that run Windows XP SP2 will NOT be offered additional security updates critical (x 86), automatic updates do not work, and Windows Update Web site is not accessible until SP3 is installed.

Problem, reinstall the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
I have problems with MCE 2005. My hard drive crashed and the technician that restored my repressive said that he could not work in MCE 2005. It's a shame because he was working before the hard drive crashes. I work with windows XP.When I go to install the internet and begin to test the connection it gives me "Critical error of process - Code 2"When I go to the TV configuration, it tells me "Tuner not found". Even if I know it works because I also Win TV7 in Hauppauge. My TV tuner is HVR-1600.With these problems, I thought that the solution might be to reinstall rollup 2 according to the Microsoft.http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/910905However, when I go to reinstall the Update Rollup 2, it seems to be to establish a restore point and then it stops when it hits hotfix (KB891593).I took a copy of the mcelog and have attached a copy of the log below.Assistance or management, you can provide me to solve this problem would be highly appreciated.
At this point, I'm a newbie to this and I don't have a clue as to the cause of my problems and any ideas you may have for me would be much appreciated.A generic Package: 10/28/10. 21:32:48
