Missing shortcuts!

Hello. I was downloading several files which I need for a review to come, and after that I was done with the downloads, I went to the location to which I have saved files and found nothing! I downloaded more than 10 files (mp3, aac, wmv), with an average of 15 megabytes of each, and I can't find one any of them. The downloads were completed, and they all took enough time. The thing is, when I search for one of these files, for example 'practical 3A' in my computer, search displays the file as a shortcut, location: the file originally, I chose: 3A (C:\Users\Sara Sherra\Desktop\study\pharma) practice. When I right click on the shortcut and choose Open the location of the file, it opens a window called recent, the path on the top is computer > Where are the original files? Can someone help me please? Is there a way I can fix this without having to re - upload the files? Any help will be really appreciated, thanks :).

You should have said yes to the question of chkdsk and then restarted.  He then would have ran.

I'm glad my suggestion to change the download location worked (although honestly, I never thought to try a flash drive, when I proposed it).

Personally, I use the free Microsoft System Essentials http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Microsoft-Security-Essentials-Download-131683.html as my anti-malware, anti-spyware program.  I also run the free Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php every few weeks to catch anything MSE may have missed (but he rarely catches anything that wan't already resolved).  I recommend them both.

Thanks for the comments - we appreciate it.  It was my pleasure to help.

Good luck!

  • Case of the missing/missing shortcuts

Lorien Hey! (or anyone else who wants to take a slap at this)

I jumped on here to see if you could suggest a fix for a problem I have. After Windows 7 upgrade failure I returned to my previous Vista Ultimate installation through the method of recovery Windows.old. What is missing is shortcuts in the start menu. Well, Miss not so much because they just don't ' function. Some do it. Most don't. And when I do fresh installs of standard legal Microsoft Office 2010 applications, the right words are in the Microsoft Office folder, but the icons are blank pages and clicking on them leads nowhere. I fully described this in a TechNet forum but after some initial answers I missed someone out there for two weeks or more. Being an MCSE etc. I'm sure that you can access this topic.

    http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/itprovistamigration/thread/715a8e55-f509-4304-9151-cfaa5b4b9dbd

I'll copy my OP here and if you do not see where this thread is gone and derailed, then I'll copy the other posts on your advice, or if you don't mind.

    THE OP:

On 14 July, I tried upgrading my system Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate. The Windows 7 upgrade bombed horribly after it chewed by 379 GB of disk space, which ends with a fatal error and the abandonment of the facility while trying to write the data Windows.old.

To try to recover my Vista installation, I was able to boot from a WinPE cd and renamed Windows Win 7 (3 GB) and then renamed Windows.old (two parts of them 10 gb and the other who has been moved to another partition of 286 gb - merged) for Windows. I know that this will cause a proverbial plethora of problems. But it had TO be done because I rely on this system to work. I have 8 TB of data and programs, saved through Carbonite (about 300gigs) game. All this RAID1. But of course, when Win 7 watered the plant, he watered it who was on the mirrors too.

The BIGGEST problem I have right now is the 'loss' of my Start Menu Programs and their shortcuts. I did the typical 'rebuild your icon cache!' and other general suggestions for this "problem" (which I need a tissue). All to nothing does not.

Where there were once viable shortcuts, there are now icons of the white page next to the names of programs. When you right-click one of these old shortcuts, the shortcut tab is completely absent from the property page. I post a picture of what my Start menu current looks but I do not see an ability to download here. Try this link instead:http://fastpc911.com/wherermyshortcuts.jpg

My question is this: given that Win 7 wiped all THE restore points, I can't do a system restore. When I right click on one of these shortcuts to nowhere, and then select open folder nothing happens. I don't know how to repair these shortcuts. Y at - it a utility that will fix these for me? Would an inplace upgrade/repair of Vista restore them? Or I'll have to manually re-create all of the 14 000 .lnks on my system?

    Check it out: http://fastpc911.com/newinstallbadshortcuts.jpg

To simplify this problem, let's just try and solve the last thing happened, which I completely remove Office 2007 and install Office 2010 and after that, the icons/shortcuts that have been put in my menu Start Menu/All programs are broken pages to nowhere, and tab shortcuts is to go in the properties... once again. This is the problem that we have to fix.

My last post in this thread was:

What is the song or crickets I hear? Feel abandoned here. 12 days without response.

Some additional data... Since the last post, I made new times-first installations of Visio 2010 and Project 2010 to go with my newly installed Office 2010 Pro. And guess what? The icons are blank pages and the shortcuts are not shortcuts. See the photo below.

    http://fastpc911.com/visioprojectbroken2.jpg

I think that to resolve this a tiny issue will open the door to the rest of what has been discussed here. How can I get my icons Visio and Project 2010 newly installed work?

    Anyone?

  • Beats Audio missing shortcut after recovery (Envy 14-1010nr)

    Hello

After replacement, hard drive failure and subsequent reinstallation of my system to my restore disk, most things seem to remember them.

One thing I noticed which does not seem to have done it is the keyboard shortcut to turn audio Beats and off. It's the B button, and I tried alt - B, fn - B, CTRL-B and SHIFT - B and none of these work.

The Beats Audio system tray app works and where I can go in and adjust the equalizer settings, and which provides not audible differences, Beats audio is so, in fact, work.

The keyboard shortcut no longer seems to work.

How can I re - activate? I don't see a setting for it in the application of Beats Audio.

  • "My meetings" missing shortcut

I have a problem with the "My meetings" file access via the Web to Connect 9 services.

I have two sites Adobe Connect.

    Site 1 (Correct site)

I connect on the Web Connect interface and go to the tab 'Meetings' (WARNING: German interface):

    MyMeetings.png

It is, I'm in the folder "My meetings" ("Meine meetings" in German).

I then use Web services to get his ID. I call sco-shortcuts function and analyze the result for the sco with type = my-meetings as recommended in the services using Adobe Connect 9 Web PDF (Page 34). It works fine and I get the sco - id.

    Site 2 (site issue)

I connect on the Web Connect interface and go to the tab "meetings":

    Missing MyMeetings.png

This time, I'm in the folder "Shared meetings" ("Gemeinsame assembled"). And the "My meetings" folder is not yet in the submenu. It is interesting that if I open the folder of the "meetings of the user' ('Benutzermeetings'), I see that there is a folder with my user name and I have to 'manage' permission on this subject.

I then try to call the function of service web sco-shortcuts and it returns me the list who has no record with type = my-meetings. And that's my problem at present - the web service that was supposed to create a new meeting fails because it can't find the folder "My meetings".

    Questions

Q1: I assume that the result of the sco-shortcuts and the 'submenu' I see on these screens is connected. How can I add the shortcut 'My meetings' as long as I have the login/password of the Chief Executive?

Q2: In my application, I use a next workaround solution:

    1. Call sco-shortcuts and sco-id of the record with type = user-meetings
    2. Call sco-table of contents and sco with the name as the current user name.

It works for now and allows me to create meetings, but I wonder if it is a viable solution to my problem.

To have a link to my meetings, you must be in the host group of the meeting. In the second story, where you have a folder with your login id users meetings, you were probably once in the host group of the meeting, but are not currently a member of this group.

  • Search or find target for shortcut missing features in Vista, deleted?

I just finished a large number of documents, 7 GB, from my old XP computer to a new computer with Vista.  To avoid creating copies of the same file in this big folder structure I created often in many places shortcuts to point to the actual file.  Over the years, some of the structure of file modified and moved the target, so the shortcuts files are pointing to the old location.

In Vista, whenever I've chaque fois que j' ai rencontre met one of these shortcuts pointing to the old location, by clicking the shortcut creates a "problem with shortcut" error and load the file fails.  In addition, if you right click on the shortcut properties, the button "find target" of XP has been replaced by "position to open the file" and it does not work as well.

Under XP, it was never a problem.  I tested the old computer to make sure.  Whenever you click on a shortcut pointing to a location on the old XP automatically to find the file and resolve the reference shortcut, which loads the file with a slight delay only.  After closing the file the shortcut would now point to the new location.  The same thing will happen if you right-click the shortcut properties and chose the target of research, he finds the new loacation fairly quickly.

Is there a reason for this 'Find target' for shortcuts feature has been disabled or deleted in Vista?  Is there a way to reactivate?

I am running Vista SP1 with Windows Search 4.0.  Windows Search makes it quick to find the target file, but manually having to search and update each shortcut is going to be a real pain.

I did some research and found this article that explains how to turn off this feature in XP and also to allow it.  I tried to create the same value of registry under Vista to see if it would, but it did not work:
    http://www.pcauthorities.com/Windows-XP/disable-missing-shortcut-search

I also tried the .lnk associations found here:
    http://www.Winhelponline.com/blog/new-shortcut-Wizard-does-not-work-or-the-option-is-missing-in-Vista/

Nothing seems to work.  What is it disabled for security or something?  Is there a way to set the shortcuts?

This feature has been removed from Vista, why... I have no idea :(

I hope that they (Microsoft) has added it back with Windows 7... which was released in October also ;)

  • Most start menu missing icons, XP SP3

I have XP SP3, over time most of my icons in the start menu > programs menu disappeared, only recently added programs have them.

the icons are shortcuts to .exe files that initiate programs.

the .exe inside their parent programs located in the folder of disc called "program files".

to make a shortcut, just right click on the desktop, create new ones and then enter the location of the .exe file

regarding the missing shortcuts, it is unclear what could happen to them.   but you can hunt down them and try to backup.  simply, do a right click on the menu start and open or explore all users.

what you'll see in Solution Explorer are the folder parent for users, including the administrator.  you will also find subfolders for the desktop and startup programs.

then hunt around for your missing shortcuts or the shortcuts in the folder and then copy them from a user account to the other.

If, however, you still can't find your missing shortcuts.  then re-create the files in the appropriate user account and make new shortcuts to put in it.

  • Recent Articles of missing office and jumplists in taskbar

I tried everything online, to fix the lists of missing shortcuts on the Windows 7 taskbar for all office products. These elements do not appear in jump lists. I reinstalled office - still no resolution. Lists of recent items and shortcuts work in Windows Explorer. Only PDF files are displayed in Excel

For 2 months, I have tried everything I found on the web through search... but I still have no recent items and cannot pin something common (such as the current file) to the jumplist pinned to the taskbar (I can do in these last applications) for all Office 2010 applications.

I use Windows 7. I reinstalled Office, repair Office, deleted all recent items, deleted the following:

    %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

    and

    %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent

I found that in AutomaticDestinations, some items were more than 1 MB. I've cleared it all and then later all the elements. I erased all lists of shortcuts and recent Articles in each of the Office programs (the items in the file menu in office programs). I have reset the toggles view... in short, everything I can find to do.

My recent items appear in the start menu and they appear in Windows Explorer on the taskbar, but they DO NOT appear in one of the applications of MS Office 2010 - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Please, I beg you. Please help with this, Microsoft. It's a nice feature, but she disappeared.

I have seen too many people with the same issues now and still more hack remedies to try to solve, reset preferences, diverted from the preferences, the settings of Firefox , etc...

  • InDesign CS5 shortcuts do not work

I just installed creative suite 5 and when I arrived to open indesign none keyboard shortcuts or toolbars were there. I already used a free trial of indesign cs4 before uninstalling to install cs5. I was edit > keyboard shortcuts > set, but there is nothing there (Nothing in the drop-down list) and when I tried to manually assign the shortcuts it wont let me save them. I was also in c: > program files > adobe > Adobe InDesign CS5 > presets and there is no keyboard saved presets here unlike illustrator were there is a folder called keyboard presets. If anyone can help I would be very grateful

There is an available Adobe Technote which covers missing shortcuts etc in InDesign CS4. http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/408/kb408055.html wonder if you encounter a similar problem in CS5. Might be useful to have a look at this.
