missing value in HKEY_current_user\software\microsof\windows\currentversion\InternetsSettingsCurrentProtocols

I try to reinstall mcafee and cannot because there is a update interface initialization error. Then I ran MVT and found the missing value above. How to fix this?

Hi sgruppuso,

You have problems with the upgrades of Windows or other types of updates?  Is the problem isolated to present a re-installation of McAfee.  It is re-installed because you have uninstalled it or because you did a clean install and are back programs that were there before?  If you have uninstalled, you can try the McAfee removal tool (if you use the first time) to remove all traces of the previous installation that can interfere with this relocation.  You can get that here: http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html and click on download the author's site.

I don't know what version of Windows you are using (I have 32 bit Vista Business SP2) and I never had any McAfee product installed on this computer and when I checked my registry I could go as far as Internet settings.  There is no current protocol if there was a called protocols.  I checked it and the values are the values by default or not to my own product AV.

If you've tried McAfee Virtual Technician, this does not explain if the entry comes from McAfee or something else.  I understand how to add keys and values in the registry, I don't know what key, type information, or the value to set.  And play with the registry when you don't understand exactly what you are doing can generate serious problems well beyond those that exist now.

You must contact McAfee technical support at the: http://service.mcafee.com/TechSupportHome.aspx?lc=1033&sg=TS.  Maybe they can help by Chat or e-mail (who seem to be free although the hotline seems to cost money - I would like to try the chat first).  I would also say that you learn about their Community Forums where you might find an answer already there for this issue, or you can post your question here using people who are familiar with McAfee.  Don't forget to include the name and the McAfee product version and the version of Windows that you use in your message. https://community.mcafee.com/community/home?view=overview.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi Vincentand welcome to the VMware communities!

This error indicates that you have some security software (antivirus or antimalware software) that protects the part of the registry.  Can you try to temporarily disable all security software on your host computer and see if the installation can move forward?

  • Error in registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\Database

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\Database

This error keeps occurring on my Scan of the registry - how can I get rid of him?

What you need to get rid of is whatever program you use to make registry scans.  In general, they do not work and some are really dangerous (I've seen cases where they did so much damage all the Vista system was to be installed as a clean boot).  Do not pay attention to the mistakes that these programs show - they may or may not be true and 'fix' can cause more harm than just leave them alone.  Most are not really errors.  You risk serious damage to your system if you continue to use any scanner registry, registry booster, Fixer registry, registry repair tool or anything similar.  Vista doesn't have these programs - it does a job perfectly well to clean the registry on its own.

Please take my advice and uninstall and never use this device or any other product like it if you care about the integrity and preservation of your system and your registry database.

    I hope this helps.

When I scanned my computer in safe mode with the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner. Edition of Vista. I had three errors that could not be removed: HKOU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.wms\ also wmd\ and wmz\

My computer is very slow, but updated for security programs. I ran several scans which show nothing. I have also cleaned cookies, history and cache and ran a spyware.

If these files do not appear in Autoruns, they are not running on your system and take so no resource performance.  You can also see the Task Manager by pressing CTRL-a: t - DEL and check open applications and open the process to see one of them appear.  If this isn't the case, then it proves once again that they are not taking up all the system resources and slow down your system.  I cannot know what they are, but to be slow down your system, or affect the performance they need to run, and if the foregoing shows that they are not then you're fine.

    I hope this helps.

    You must run high Regedit.

Start > Search > type: regedit
When regedit appears in the above results, right-click and choose "Run as Administrator". Provide the password/OK for the UAC area and Regedit open high. Now, you will be able to delete unwanted keys. Be very careful in the registry - a bad deletion can take all windows down.

User - recommended configuration (Vista and Win7) accounts

You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all other Windows 7, Vista, and modern operating systems are operating systems multi-user with integrated system of accounts as default Administrator and comments. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want account only one user with administrator privileges on Vista and Windows 7 because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult. It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but it may require more work you want to do. Better not to get into a bad situation at first.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. As a user Standard is recommended for security reasons and will help protect your computer against infections. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Unknown key in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion

In XP Home Edition SP3 when I login I get the error message "C:\Windows\Bskblt.dll is not found." This does not happen with the other profiles.

I was unable to create anything on this subject online, but Regedit shows the following key: Ksevewu REG_SZ "C:\Windows\Bskblt.dll" rundll32.exe, start.

    Two questions please.

    (a) someone knows something about Ksevewu or Bskblt. In other words I can delete the key.

    (b) I understand KHEY_CURRENT_USER is created whenever the data elsewhere, but Bskblt appears only in the registry. So where and how can I remove it so that it is not recreated?

    Any help gratefully reced.

    (a) the file listed in the error message is not part of Windows XP.  It was probably part of a virus or spyware infection that has been partially removed.  You can remove the key.  What is in hkey_current_user\\software\\microsoft\\windows\\currentversion\\run?

    (b) when a user opens a session, Windows copies of information on this user in the hive HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry of the user's profile data file:

    C:\Documents and Settings\ {name} \ntuser.dat user (a hidden file)

When a user closes a session, Windows copies the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive to the file of the user's profile.  To remove the registry key will remove the entry from the profile data file.
