  Whenever there is an update of the above, it fails. I checked update history goes all the way back to 2008. Service Pack 3 (KB952069) was OK on 12/12/08. Service Pack 2 (KB960089) was OK on 12/02/09. Service Pack 3 (KB9550706) on 17-03-09 failed. Service Pack 3 (KB970892) on 19-10-09 failed and failed every time since.  Why do you want to update a Service Pack 3 and then back to Service Pack 2? Could this be the problem?

  Well, looks like I solved the problem myself. I just downloaded and installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3, and now, it seems no more need an update.

  For SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (KB970892) security update cannot be installed. When I try to install (via Windows Update), I have the following error message: Code 737D Windows Update encountered an unknown error. An additional search comes back with "no solution". This update is offered by Windows Update. Any ideas? Thank you very much.

  I use Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3.

  Here is a link to a thread on the MSDN forums dealing with this problem and a possible solution.  Thread  Also, if you run law or another program directly using SQL, you can try to uninstall the program, run the update, then reinstall the program.  If you have tried only to install this through Windows Update you can want to download it and run it directly from your desktop.
