model 2009 ThinkPad SL300 and system/software issues

Nice place, have you all here... I found through a Google search.

I just bought a ThinkPad SL300 under XP Pro opportunity.  It is a unit of work/Office who has been assigned to a guy who later decided that he wanted a Mac for a short period.  After that, he was sitting on the shelf in a closet of equipment for nearly a year.  Generally, I think that the Lenova is correct but it doesn't have many questions.

First of all, the guy who put it in place user names in his name, and one on behalf of her child.  I was able to remove these names of users through the Control Panel, but when I look at the tree DOS systems using a right click / Explore everything I still see them.  And I'm unable to edit or delete user names.  And when I try to change them I get a message from file system.  So it appears their usernames are integrated in the system tree somewhow BACK.

Then my own name appears on the login screen and if I'm using the control panel and administrative tools, but when I right click and see all my name does not appear in the tree.  Strange.

Software: when I installed my software of MS Office 2003 installed and runs, but under the name of the child - even if I went into the admin tools and changed this user name.  And when I click on help / about it shows such software that saved the child.

My first question: How can I change the name in the tree of the system (C:\)?

Then, the Office 2003 software seems to have installed fine. Word, Excel, MS Office Outlook all load and run.  I guess that I don't care if he says Jethro Bodine as long as it works...

Finally, about MS Office Outlook, when I've quand j' ai importe imported my contacts they load in the Contacts folder and the list appears when I click on Contacts.

However, when I click on New to create a new message, and then click to select a recipient, the selection window opens and is empty - not a contact to be seen.

Where the contacts? I suspect it's a matter of file location in the perspective to implement, but I can't find it and correct using the options.

An overview of these issues will be appreciated.  If it comes to push and push, I guess I could just reformat the HD and start over.  If it becomes necessary, I want to do before I'm too invested in the system.

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Shut down your system, turn it on and press the blue button in the upper left when the thinkpad logo appears, follow this guide step 5 thereafter:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70803

The whole process is pretty self-explanatory. This will again put your SL to factory State, but it will work only if the hidden recovery partition is always kept on the computer by the owner previous, also bare in mind that everything will be removed from the system during the recovery process.

It will be useful.

I have a laptop Pavilion DV6-6193 running Windows 7 x 64 Edition Home Premium, and I want to set up in an environment multiboot (Fedora, Ubuntu, Win7 Professional and the existing Win 7 Home Premium). However, since the original factory configuration created 4 primary partitions (C, D, HP_Tools, System), I have to convert the C: partition to an extent of logical drives that I need to create.  I created recovery DVD the day I brought the computer home laptop, and I have a few questions (sorry if this post is a little long - thanks for reading!):

    (1) if I change the configuration of the partition (creating the C extended partition with logical drives of different sizes), can the recovery CD restore a full wipe and system drive if I need to restore the drive to its factory condition, no matter how I manipulate the partitions of the plant or make these discs just restore C drive : ? The process of recovering factory State would work if I reformatted the drive completely?

In other words, the recovery CD still work if I change the factory partition scheme, and they go to work, will be the Act of destructive recovery process to reformat the entire disk and recreate it as it was the day he left the factory (C, D, [Active] system and HP_tools of the score), what I need?  I did not understand if this is the case, or if the recovery process would simply restore the C: drive and the hidden system partition (not actually a complete restoration).

    (2) I thought to use the native Windows 7 system image tool to create an image of the entire disk in case I need to restore it, but given that the HP_tools hidden partition is FAT32 formatted, I can't image with native Windows tools. As I understand it, this hidden partition contains related software of the UEFI BIOS, so I don't want to reformat the hard drive and lose this partition if it cannot be recreated by the recovery disks.  Is there any software free imaging that can image and restore the entire disk, even if it contains partitions FAT32 and NTFS?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello

Your recovery disks will return the laptop to its factory condition (IE with the four primary Partitions you have now), no matter how you have partitioned the HARD disk in the meantime - in fact, when you use the discs, there is no way to avoid this, it is important to backup the contents of any custom partition because they will be erased by the recovery process.

Recently, someone in my house accessible a website called clipconverter.cc and recorded a few videos on our computer. I logged today to find a number of CRAZY to say "INSTALL ME" all over my desk, my changed Redirect 'Safe Finder' safari and 3 or 4 new applications which I didn't flash files.

  • Monitor and system used "wake up" mode ensures

I tell my story so that others may not feel as if they were alone in their perdicament. My story starts like this:

I bought the m9520f and and w2408h last Saturday and have been enjoying the PC immensely. I really like HP and wouldn't not consider purchasing another manufacturer - even with the troubles, I'm going to wear. Everything worked well until Sunday night, when I put the system into "sleep" mode and returns an hour later. I had put the system into "sleep" before but was returned to him several minutes later. But this time after leaving the PC in "sleep" for an hour, the system will not turn back. The lights on the PC itself would come on (from the green 'sleep' to the 'blue'), but the monitor would refuse to wake up. I called support and even they could not understand it. We have tried to unplug the pc and all its ropes, but nothing worked. I hooked up the monitor to my other pc, and it worked well, so I knew there was nothing wrong with the monitor. Earlier Saturday the PC would not recognize Monitor driver then maybe had something to do with it. Hmmm. When I disconect the PC monitor would come and it lights on the keyboard would be as well. When I plugged the monitor of the PC turns on but keyboard lights wouldn't. Strange. The monitor would immediately switch to "standby" mode as soon as I plugged the HDMI or VGA - in fact just before he would monitor OSD would be inidcate that niether the HDMI or VGA were connected (which they were physically). So I knew that the monitor was not to recognize the conection. Communication between the monitor and the PC must have been the cause. After about 45 times to turn on and off Alternatively the monitor and the PC, the monitor has FINALLY acknowledged that there was a link and my PC on - WHEWWW. I was afraid that I would have to discuss with the people at Circuit City for an Exchange. I still don't know what happened, but all I know is that I will NEVER put this monitor or PC in sleep in the future. Here are the symptoms that I lived in case someone else there is in the same perdicament. It seems to me that this can be cured with a software update - but I'm not smart enough to Koe for sure:

Tip #1: The PC would not recognize Monitor driver

Tip #2: This happened after leaving the monitor and the PC in 'sleep' for more than 30 minutes

Tip #3: The PC lights (clear blue power, stable, flashing green light on the back and the dvd player opens) but the rest of the monitor to sleep

Tip #4: The monitor refuses to acknowledge that it is "connected".

CUE #5: The PC "blockages" accordingly and refuses to switch (kind of caught between being on and "sleepy")

Tip #6: When the PC finally trun on the driver and the software supplied with the monitor that he would not recognize Saturday had risen from PC (hmm - I chose to not reinstall)

My recommendation: do NOT try to install the driver provided with your monitor and DO NOT put your system into "sleep" for more than 15 minutes.

My system: Pavilion Elite m9520f with monitor w2408h 24 inches.

    LAST UPDATED:

After several weeks with the computer, I found the solution. I did through trial an error. First of all, let me say that I don't have the option of returning the PC to the retailer, because it was Circuit City and they had to stop their activities - so I couldn't do that. Here is the solution for those of you are having problems with your PC do not 'wake up' sleep: (Please note that some documents below may be repetative and you could read what follows before in my previous updates - I just wat to summarize below for some people)

    1) to update drivers (ALL)

    (2) update the BIOS (very Important!) on the site of HP

    (3) HP has a problem with USB devices (external drives, USB mouse, anything with USB and Yes, that includes your monitor). Which MAY have something to do with the "bus controller" driver who refuses to this day to be installed on the 'updates '. I was not able to install this darn update, so I gave up. I know that many of you have had trouble with that as well so I'll leave for another topic on the forum of "solve". All I have now is that I've resigned myself to the fact that it will never be installed and I'm fine with it. Anyway, my main concern was the problem of "sleep". Getting back to what I was saying, the HP has a problem with the USB devices. In other words, all USB DEVICES MUST BE REMOVED before you go into sleep - if you do not, then the system will NOT "wake up". What I've learned, is to remove all USB devices before entering the sleep and my system will go to sleep and wake up without problems - for me, it was just a matter of having disconnected and reconnected once the system was awake. Of course, those with a USB mouse, I recommend that you get a mouse not USB. Fortunately also my HP w2408h monitor is connected through a HDMI cable so I don't have the problem of having to disconnect and reconnect it. The manual of the suggested w2408h connect it by HDMI AND USB but only connect it via HDMI and it works perfectly for me - DO NOT CONNECT THE USB cable on the screen because then you will have the problem of sleep.

    Resolved solution!

(now, if I can get my gosh darn controller BUS to install and my blu - ray to panic game then that would be nice - arghhhhhhh!)

Hope my experience helped the people there!

  • Recommended solution for Thinkpad Tablet and VGA projectors?

I ordered a Thinkpad Tablet hoping to use it for a teaching tool, but I face a common problem: most classrooms (and indeed, most conference rooms for business) are projectors VGA.

I know there are a variety of converters HDMI / VGA (using Active electronic components, of course), but I was wondering if Lenovo recommends a solution or if anyone has first-hand experience (perhaps with the Ideapad tablet, or perhaps with a review of the Thinkpad Tablet model) connect to a VGA projector.

An extra (a little more specific question), it's the mini-HDMI output provides power to work something like the HP-HDMI-VGA connector. If not, are there drivers to support a USB output device / VGA (which are available for Windows, but uncommon on Android).

Thanks in advance for comments or suggestions!

The HP adapter works without external power supply with a warning: the output resolution is the native resolution of the Tablet, which seems to cause distortions on 4:3 monitors and slight overscan issues at least a part is watching 16:9. For my purposes (conferences mathy things), it seems it will work fine, although I will take a piece of chalk tomorrow just in case.

  • Update drivers and install software recovery disk!

    Hello

    Thanks in advance...

I bought a computer hp laptop with windows vista home installed with the software by default. and at this time there, I created recovery disks. Now, I have to update my system to Windows 7 Ultimate.

After installing Windows 7 ultimate how can I install my drivers and install the default software came with my laptop?

    Thanks in advance for help...

    Hello abhijit8537,

first of all, let me tell you that most of the software installed on the unit have an OEM license which means that you can install it only by reinstalling original windows using disks of SRecovery...

Given that you didn t clear which model is this, I recommend you to go to the link:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?lc=en&DLC=en&cc=us

This link will take you to the website of HP customer where you insert your product model number (accessible by a posting on the undercarriage of your windows laptop or inside by pressing Fn + ESC (this second option may not work as you install other OS).

After inserting the number for your product on the web site of HP Customer Care you will be redirected to the support page of your model where you choose the option "Software & Driver Downloads.

Inside, you will need to select your operating system and find all the software and drivers available for your device.

If you need anything just let me know,

    Kind regards

My computer crashed. How can I get a copy of my operating system from Vista to reinstall? I bought a mac and parallels software, and I need to install my software Vista be able to use it (it has been preloaded on my pc crashed).

    Hello

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista on your computer "crashed".

If you want to install anywhere else, like her, is a preinstalled OS, it is linked to the original computer "crashed" it came installed on.

An OEM license is not transferable

And install on a Virtual Machine requires a new license.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • CS5: CUDA, CPU and other hardware issues

CS5 can gain a lot of speed with technology CUDA from Nvidia; I guess all of you who have studied a little knows.

However, I like the very specific information to get the best decision for a new investment.

I need to get two new CS5 identical systems, which are much faster and not as buggy like my last system of CS4.

I have about 30,000 euro for 2 machines.

Our studio requires SDI connections, so I got a Matrox Axio.

Currently, my system has a lot of problems with the Premiere and After Effects:

    -Field swaps

    -Incompatible effect parameters

    -Very slow rendering

    -Very slow app Startups

    -Multi work slowdowns

    -Crashes of applications

    -Very slow UI operations

1 CS5 uses only the supported of CUDA cards CUDA?

2 what is SLI or multi-tech graphics, help CS5 speed at all?

    3. is it useful to get a Tesla beside a Quadro 5800 or if she is not seen by CS5?

    4. which processor is best suited for an After Effects render: iX or Xeon architecture?

5 adobe uses really only 3 GB by heart, which means that you should not buy more than 3 GB / processor? What is per-THREAD and I should get more RAM?

6 speed or comp: is it better to focus on the speed very high total base, or the optimal distribution of RAM by getting as many hearts as possible?

    7. can I a Matrox MXO2 Rack unit, cooperate with the power of Nvidia CUDA or likely to hinder the two accelerations/technologies eachother?

    8. is it better to get Nvidia SDI connectivity or y at - it an alternative backup?

9 iX possible CPU double or is this a Xeon option only?

    10. What is the most fast 6-core Xeon which can be duplicate?

11 CS5 must a good record of work: it is wise to get a SSD just to scratch or is - this an exaggeration?

    12. Some say that the Nvidia 5800 is not the fastest card it has 240 cuda cores and some gtx cards have much more than that. What's the story?

I probably forgot about 324 other questions, but for now, he will do.

If someone of you can give objective and confirmed information, do it!

I repeat just what Mylenium and Sebastian said, but I wanted to make sure that their answers were considered as fact (which they are).

CUDA has nothing to do with After Effects. Among the Adobe video applications, only first Pro CS5 using CUDA. Also, The Premiere Pro Mercury is not supported-use engine SLI. (Keep the issues of Premiere Pro, CUDA and mercury on the Premiere Pro forum).

There is not a limit of 3 GB/Heart in After Effects CS5. It is true that the largest number the values preset in the memory & multiprocessing Preferences is 3 GB, but you can change the predefined settings. See the comment at the bottom of this page for more information on changing the presets.

Also, consider that After Effects is not the only software currently running on your computer. At the very least, you also operation of the OS. If you want to spend 4 GB per process of After Effects (which is a reasonable number for digital cinema), and you use 4 CPU cores for simultaneous multiple images of multiprocessing rendering, so you need not just 16 GB; you need as more than 20 GB, so that the operating system and other software have what they need. See this post, who wrote for CS4 - but the principles are still relevant for CS5: "Performance Tip: don't starve to death your software of RAM '

  • Help on upgrading 10.7.5 El captain in MS Office and other possible issues

    Hello!

I have a Mac Book Pro December 2011, OS X 10.7.5. I struggled with the implementation of php and many other issues and have been repeatedly invited to improve my OS. As a newbie in CS, I frankly scared - it's the only computer I have, and I can't lose/break/brick/etc, because I won't be able to fix any serious problem at the moment, not until I know what's best. But I'm really tired of losing time because of low productivity, constant freezing and other issues; and also feel ashamed bothers people on forums like this one, only because I have an obsolete system and lack of appropriate knowledge (the latest is not shameful because I learn, but the first can be really annoying for people who help me).

Please, help me with this question:

    (1) is it safe to upgrade directly to el Captain 10.7.5?

    (2) If Yes on first, what are the possible problems that may arise and what should I do to avoid problems?

    (3) should I reinstall MS Office to upgrade the OS? This is crucial for me because I found out that I have to buy new MS Office, as Microsoft staff informed me. This isn't really the best money for me at the moment.

Thank you very much for your help and your understanding!

-First clone your boot existing to another disk drive.

-Consult the developer of your applications if they will work with El Capitan.  Some may require updates and some may simply not work, and you must buy an upgrade. A MS Office for Mac license will be valid when upgrading to El Capitan, if the version you have is compatible with El Capitan.

-In EL Capitan Apple strengthened for some hardware will require drivers drivers updated signature. For some hardware updated drivers are not available.

  • What this Mac and System Profiler does not work

I just bought an iMac for 5K and during the first start-up there gather files from my old system, a PPC 2007 24 "iMac under Leopard.

There are a few quirks, the most alarming so far being that the about this Mac does nothing when I try and check it out. When I go to System Profiler in the Utilities folder, he tells me, "' system information ' cannot be opened."

I ran disk first aid utility and it seemed to work. I rebooted and still nothing.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you.

System Profiler is obsolete. Apparently, you have migrated on outdated and incompatible software. See if there is a program in public services, called Information System.
