Modem router Wireless N upgrade?

I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 ver.2 modem which has served us for about 8 years.  I've recently updated our wireless n router, but have seen no improvement in the coverage area or speed.  The seller in Microcenter told me that my current modem was fine, but I wonder if I need to improve my modem to take advantage of the N WiFi feature.  Another thing, I remember when the tech our cable connected to the modem, it added a 10/100 switch.  Can it be purchased?  The research I did on the forums, it seems that I need a compatible 10/100/1000 switch for the gigabit speed.

I apologize for the basic questions, but I tell myself that if I want to learn I have well start somewhere

Thank you!

It is not question of cause I don't think you have 100Mpbs subscription from your ISP. This modem is good for home use. You will get your your router Wireless N speed and that's only within your local network.

Does Linksys router wireless n gateway, a combination router and cable modem?

Currently I have the unit combined for wireless g, but upgrade to wireless-n.

    Thank you!

I think at the moment that doesn't sell Linksys 802.11n gateways.

I generally recommend not getting the combined devices, but better to get two separate devices, a simple modem and a wireless router.

    1. you have a far greater choice of products for the router, and they are usually less expensive.

    2. in the event of the death of the router you can still have internet via the modem directly. If the combined unit dies, you are in offline mode.

    3. less functions in a more simple design makes the device and averages more stable and more reliable devices.

    4. you can replace a device at any point. For example, if you pass the ADSL or FTTH cable you can simple replace the modem. You may need to change the configuration on the router but other internet connection so that you can keep the router. Similarly, if two years from now, you want to get the router new generation wireless you can continue to use your modem (if it is still suitable for your internet speed)

  • With the help of RV016 with DSL modem/router/wireless

I have a question of configuration that will probably seem obvious to many readers, please go easy on me: I'm new to this.  I used a RV016 because it will allow me to have the diversity and conservation of roads to the internet for our SMEs.  Since we are now counting on the insurance and processing of credit cards that is the Internet, I won't be down if the cable company fails, so I added the DSL service.  When DSL service arrived, the carrier provided a modem Motorola 3347 which includes the router, switch and wireless in one device.  Instead of installing a WAP browser, I would like to use the 3347 wireless.

However, users on the wireless cannot print to printers on the RV016.  Is it possible that I can make visible printers to wireless users?

    Photo shows the problem...

Yet once, guess I am missing the point and GENTLY try to educate myself.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi Cunnida56

If I remember the RV016 is installed in what called default gateway mode and you will have to be in router mode.

Gateway mode essentially allows NAT (NAT) services, so that the LAN is coordinated against the WAN IP address.

You have an option under Setup > advanced routing to assign the RV016 router, mode option and save the settings.

In router mode NAT is disabled, but you also have to disable the SPI Firewall options and block Wan requests, all of these options are found under the Firewall tab.

Your next step is to add a static route in the motorola 3347 that points to the 192.168.2.0 network.

This static route will allow wireless clients to know the WAN1 address the RV016, who will act as a gateway to the 192.168.2.0 network.

Good luck.. and have fun, do not forget to save or to apply your chages as you go.

    Best regards, Dave

  • Connect an Airport Express Terminal to a non - airport Cable Modem/Router wireless

I want to use my Airport Express as a wireless adapter to connect my TV to my home wireless network. How to connect an Airport Express Terminal to a non Airport wireless router?

Not sure I understand your question.

If the AirPort Express Terminal will connect and 'join' the existing wireless network using a wireless connection... How the TV will connect to the AirPort Express?   Wireless?   Wired Ethernet connection?   USB connection?

I got a modem Comcast/Xfinity upgrade. Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router on a network, AirPort Extreme will be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work properly with the new modem. For this he would be...

Turn on AirPort Extreme for a few minutes... If it is not already turned on

Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 7-8 seconds, then release it.

Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart to a slow, flashing amber light status

Make sure that an Ethernet cable connects to one of the four LAN <-->Ethernet ports on the modem/router on port WAN "O" on AirPort Extreme

To start the Setup program, click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and are looking for a list of the new AirPort base station

Just below that, click directly on the AirPort Extreme and then follow the prompts for configuration "Wizard".

When you configure AirPort Extreme once again, you can use the same wireless network name and the same password that you used with AirPort Extreme with the 'old' modem, if you wish, or use a new wireless network name and password

  • HPC8180 printer connects to the wireless network, after upgrade firmware to the router wireless

My HPC8180 has been wireless since I bought it some time ago.  I recently had to upgrade the firmware on my router wireless of Netcom NB9W and since then my HP will not solve for the wireless network.

I run the wizzard of wireless network on the printer, select the correct SSID and enter the WEP key according to the instructions.

    It will then not connect.

Print the summary I have says that it passes all except:

    No filtering = Fail

    Connected = do not run

Signal strength = very weak (which is strange because it is about 10 feet away from wireless router).

Other networks detected matching your network name (SSID) = No.

    Summary says:

    Network Name (SSID) altnet (correct)

    Address IP = not applicable

    Configuration source = not applicable

    Communication mode = Infrastructure

    Authentication type = open system

    = 64-bit WEP encryption

I have NOT activated the mac address filtering

    Any ideas?

Your router appears to be a DSL modem-router.  Those who can be difficult to connect to.  In addition, WEP can be problematic and is no longer a measure of security.  WEP can be broken in 10 minutes approximately with the freeware on the internet.

    We will do three things:

    1. replace the WPA or WPA2 encryption.  You can make your own password.  Do 13 or more characters, numbers and uppercase and lowercase letters.

2 reset the default settings on your printer network (configuration > network area).

    3. attach to the router in this way:

Sometimes the DSL providers have more control over the router like the printer.

-Unplug the phone line from the router
-Cut the power to the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn on the power.
-Go through the normal process of the printer connected to the device (wireless configuration wizard)
-Now to find the IP address of the printer (it should be on the self-test printout), type it in a browser.
-On this screen, you will find a tab management network, then on the left wireless, then the IPv4 tab.
-On this screen, you want to set a manual IP address. You must assign an IP address outside the range that the router sets automatically (called the DHCP range). If you know what it is, set an IP address outside this range but not exceeding 254 (the last number of the address).
-Apply the subnet 255.255.255.0 (unless you know it's different, if so, use it)
-Let the white gateway and DNS
-Finally, connect the telephone line, restart the router and the test.

  • Connect AirPort Express to lemon (Rogers Rocket) Wireless Modem/Router

I just got Rogers Wireless internet new modem/router Hitron.  I use modem/router mode.  It's great. Very fast and a lot of range. Covers all 3 floors of my house.

I want to connect an Apple Terminal to my Hitron router with an ethernet cable and put the Hitron in Bridge mode. I want to continue to use the Hitron router as my main and only router.

However on another floor, I would use an Apple Airport Express connected to my stereo with a jack 1/8 '' to play my music wirelessly from my iTunes from Apple.

To do this, I need this Apple Airport Express Terminal to 'find' the Hitron router.  How can I get to find the router Hitron?

I guess that you have a current version or recent of the AirPort Express with the default settings.

As long as the AirPort Express is located where it can receive a strong signal of the modem/router...and wireless Hitron the Hitron aircraft provides a wireless signal that uses industry standard wireless settings, the AirPort Express can 'join' the wireless network. Wired Ethernet is not necessary.

Note that the AirPort Express will not "spread" or "repeat" the signal from the router/modem lemon to provide additional coverage of wireless signal wireless, but it can be used to join the wireless network and provide a signal of airtime for your stereo.

Simply use a Mac running a current or recent operating system, or an iPhone/iPad and configuration "Wizard" Apple to set up things upward. The wizard will automatically offer the correct configuration to 'join' the wireless network. All you really need to do is to enter a device name that you want to use for the AirPort Express and the password of the wireless network and confirm.

Start the wizard by clicking on AirPort Express under the title of the new AirPort base station.

On an iPhone or iPad, the screen looks like this:

In the example below, the wizard has detected a network named "2WIRE902" for the AirPort Express join. You will see the name of the wireless network that provides the Hitron modem/router on your screen. Just enter a name of device for the Express, then type the wireless network password, then type it again to verify.

Click next at the bottom right of the window and the AirPort Express displays a green light for a minute or two and you're done.

  • Can what comparison be made between time capsule and Smart RG s505 wireless modem router for wifi

Can what comparison be made between time capsule and Smart RG s505 wireless modem router for wifi

    Superior...

After all, the chip is mainly a modem.

Wireless is there but not designed as the primary connection.

Wireless 802.11n 300Mbps AP with 2 x 2 MIMO Wireless bridge, WDS multiple SSID, including isolated invited SSID WiFi QoS (WMM) and PowerSave wireless security: • Wi - Fi Protected Access (WPA, WPA2) • AES, TKIP, WEP encryptio

It is the Wireless N standard.

The TC is dual-band simultaneous AC1750... even if in fact apple never leaves anything use 300mbit on the 2.4 GHz is more like AC1450... It is also 3 streams on both bands not 2 x 2.

    The fact that aid.

The only thing to note is that a router from Apple can join never a router wireless not apple... so, there must always be plugged in by ethernet.

  • HP Deskjet 2542: Cannot print wireless Deskjet 2542 after installing the new modem/router

We have recently installed a new Netgear modem/router and have not been able to print wireless since installation. I tried everything I could find on the forum and still no luck. Any help will be appreciated.

Replacement/change your wireless router, try here.

    http://www.HP.com/global/au/en/wireless/reconfiguring-system-Help3.html

Make sure that your router is set to a fixed channel wireless as the 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto '.  Try each of the channels one at a time.  Make sure they are spaced at least 5 feet.

However, if you have a gateway device (modem + router), all gateway devices are terrible for connectivity and wireless performance.   If this does not work, suggest you put this bridge in full bridge mode device and install your own router of high quality that YOU have full control over.

  • modem router WAG120N wireless security configuration

I use modem router wag120n but is confused abt how to set up wireless security of it is. Security Wireless Configuration recommended in tutorial given here is very different from what is given in my page of configuration routrs.

I don't know how to manage the key renewal option. If I leave as 3600 seconds does that mean that I have to enter my device a new key wireless connected to the router after every 1 hour?

Well well with firmware linksys/cisco security gateway wireless configuration seems even that is mentioned in the link provided: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=7b0d8344c5524f75a8d5b... . But if in case it looks different let it me know what exactly what you see in the configuration page.

Group key renewal determines how many times your group exchange key. The renewal time should not be too short or too long. The default is 3600 seconds.

You don't have to deal with the renewal of key. It happens automatically. Customers do not lose connectivity, just the key for the changes of the connection. You won't notice. The longer the interval longer guarantee the link (in theory) as a striker who wants to break the encryption key has less time and less data to work on...

But once again: it does not affect customers wireless connected. It's all past automatically just as it happens when the connection is established in the first place.
