Move catalog to network drive.

I need some good advice for a catalog of 13 k + photos I am trying to clean up. I use Elements 7, I bought 11 elements and plans to install soon. Part of my photos are physically located on my hard drive, and are on a network mapped as J: drive.  Elements are found these pictures j: but I don't think that the catalog of items is aware that J: is a removable network drive. It seems to them everytime I open elements, making the program very slow to start. Should I use the "passage to a removable drive" to move these photos? How the elements will handle these pictures were sent to a removable drive? I will be always able to view thumbnails of photos and search through my tags for them? If I copy my photos to a new disk, but still call this drive J: elements will be able to find them? And finally, if I perform this task 'move to removable disk', do I do now with Elements 7 or 11 elements first day? Help, please. Joanne

If the Organizer is slow to start and seems to be looking, you need to check two things:

-that you do not have to pay for the service "watched folders" to look at the network drive (file / looked at the menu of folders)

-in preferences, files, you don't have checked search automatic and reconnection.

If you can access your files on the network from the Organizer drive and see the thumbnails, no need to worry. You can move the files to your internal drive to and from the network, one by the file / move the menu or by dragging and dropping files in the folder. The organizer should not consider the network drive differently from an external USB drive: If such a unit is not physically connected, you will get "missing files". Displays only the thumbnails that are stored in the catalog. It is different from files on a CD/DVD: when they are not connected, you will get a warning of offline support.

Only the catalog itself (the database) can be stored on a drive network; However, it can be stored on a USB external drive.

If you want to upgrade to PSE11, be sure to perform a full backup to a second drive external (these USB keys are affordable today). Note that since this backup, you can restore the files not only on their location of origin, but also in a custom location, for example in the internal computer drive (even if the original files are scattered on several internal or external drives).

If you install PSE11 on your current computer, you should be prompted to convert the existing catalogs to the new format of PSE11 without having all the files or folders to move or copy. This conversion does not change your current PSE7 catalog, which still works as before.

I have a Lightroom catalog that I want to put on a network drive so my colleague can work on it while I'm out. I tried to move the files and folders on the network drive of C:\Users\PJ\Pictures\Lightroom to a network drive. But he simply created shortcuts to the C drive. Any ideas?

The catalog can NOT be on a network drive. Your images can, but the catalog must be on a drive that is on the local computer. Some users try to put the catalog dropbox. But you must allow time for updates complete. Dropbox approach is prone to corruption quite easily. The best would be to put the catalog on an external hard drive that can be switched between computers.

  • How can I move my images on a network drive

I am willing to spend my images to a network storage array.  I currently have several lightroom catalogs.  I have all my files on a single disk, as well as the OS and the application.  How can I move the image files so that all catalogs will work and where to find the new location?

You should be able to simply drag and drop files from the folders tree in the library of your network drive module. Attention to the progress bar in the upper left corner of the screen of Lightroom and make sure that you do not close Lightroom while the transfer is in progress.

The other method would be to use your system browser (Explorer or Finder) and move your images to the network drive. You would then follow the instructions below on how to recreate a link to your pictures.

  • What is the problem of refusal to store a catalog on a network drive?

Someone had to write the code to recognize and block specifically tries to access a catalog on a network drive.  This must be fixed immediately; in most environments and in my environment, local disk is obsolete, often completely lacking.  If there is some, it is more often than not saved.  Lightroom can't work in this environment currently, no reason except a stupid check in code.  NOP just out and we're good.

Network drives are not supported because LR, being a single-user only database, must ensure that no other users are also update the database, and some network protocols implement properly the few functions access to files, mainly the functions of file locking and this allows multiple LRs write data in the database even w/o each other know about it.  This would lead to a corrupted database.

If LR ever gets to redesigned to use a multiuser database engine, allowing multiple users to simultaneously access it, then she could support on a network drive.  Nowadays, this usually requires a separate database from the client computer server computer and for simplicity is not done, at least not yet.  I mean imagine a relatively technically naïve photographer trying to set up or operate again once something does not work.

A workstation LR needs to a locally connected storage to house the catalog because only this allows LR prevent other users simultaneously access the database and corrupts it.  I use a USB3 WD Passport Ultra to my catalog and it works well.  I do it, not because I don't have a local hard drive, but because I need to use the single catalog and my current working set of photos on two different computers.  I noticed a WDPPU USB3 TB 2 on sale for about $95 at best buy last month or two.

Can I move catalog Lightroom 4 C: drive to another drive? My C: drive is full on a nearly new HP Envy window 8

Yes, you would move the file catalog using your OS and then when its on the other disk, double-click it.

You probably to move your photos too, again make using your OS and keep the same folder structure, then plug back in Lightroom by following the instructions in this article (see Figure 4): http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder-old.htm

  • Automatic backup bookmarks to the Documents folder for this file history Windows stores up to my network drive

Historical files Windows backup certain folders (Documents, music, photos, videos and office) on a network drive. How can I get Firefox to automatically save Favorites, for example when I leave FF, in one of these folders, for example "Documents"? While it is automatically saved in a place where the drive of my PC crashes.

I spent some time googling this simple question and got many confused results and nothing to do with!

Sorry, a feature like that is not available in Firefox, runs to move your entire profile folder.

But this Pike Bookmark Backup extension is able to do this.

  • The directory of the user on the mapped network drive

I want to move my user directory C:\Users\Edwin to a mapped network drive E: (i.e. mapped from a network share \\\\192.168.22.9\share ).

The difficult part is to move the directory of the user himself. I found 2 possible solutions, which are not applicable for me due to my use of a network drive.

    1. Move C:\Users\Edwin" to "E:\Users\Edwin , and then use a symbolic link of junction ( mklink -J ) to post a link to C:\Users\Edwin .

This does not work for me because I can't create a symbolic link to a directory on a non-local drive junction.

    2. Changing the value of registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\ProfilesDirectory of %SystemDrive%\Users to E:\Users before you create the user "Edwin".

Later, when the "Edwin" user first connects, the profile will be in E:\Users\Edwin .

The problem is that I met a problem of the egg and the hen.

When you first login as a user 'Edwin' profile will be created in E: . However, at the moment I first login, the mapped network drive E: is not there.

I tried without success to the following:

    1. Create a drive mapped persistent administrator. Did not work. The mapped drive is only visible to the administrator user.

    2. Create a mapped drive persistent using the rights system (using PsExec -s ). Did not work. The mapped drive is not 'owned' by anyone, not even the current administrator user.

    3. Create a drive mapped persistent by using the user newly created by Edwin, without opening a session as Edwin again (using the PsExec once again). Did not work. It is possible to create a mapped drive under a different name, once I tried to do it with persistence ( /persistent:yes ), I get a Access is Denied error.

No idea how this can be done? Or is it it even can be done at all?

  • Windows logon fails when network drive mapping

I can no longer map a network drive of my laptop Vista business to my PC (XP).   I enter a username/password valid name, but I still not unsuccessful logon.   I read a gazillion discussions and have made the change to the recommended without result SECPOL tool.

What makes me mad, it's this used to work!   I recently had to physically move the PC (renovation of the kitchen) and perhaps its something stupid like a missed connection.  Yet, I have access to the internet very well.  I can ping 192.168.0.3 192.168.0. * I'm confused comment.3 is affected. My tivo est.4 and I tested this connection and that's fine.

I even had a network printer set up works very well: Photosmart \\192.168.0.3\HP...

The only area involved is WORKGROUP.   I created an account "lapguest" on the PC specifically for this purpose

I forget some syntax?   The GUI said essentially the same thing.

    C:\Users\Wendy>net use w: \\192.168.0.3\pcc * / USER: WORKGROUP\lapguest
    Type the password for \\192.168.0.3\pcc:
    86 the system error occurred.

The specified network password is not correct.

    C:\Users\Wendy>net use w: \\192.168.0.3\pcc * /USER:\\192.168.0.3\lapguest
    Type the password for \\192.168.0.3\pcc:
The context of the user provided is not valid.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3775.

I think its something stupid, I forgot, but he is elusive.     I also put the name of the computer in the 192.168.0.3 place, but it does not help.  There is no involved DNS.

Using the graphical interface, I can browse the network to find the folder to add, but there is nothing under the computer name of the computer.  "pcname" is not a valid host name.   Otherwise download "logon unsuccessful".   I tested the connection on the PC and it is certainly true.

In addition, I traced \\192.168.0.3\C$ successfully, but I got my LOCAL drive (portable) C.   ????  that should be a big clue, but call me clueless...

I even uninstalled mcafee (completely) just in case.  did ' t like it anyway so no biggie.

I know that there is a big DUH when this has been resolved.

Thanks Aaron, but I think I did it to her.

In the meantime, I decided to try sharing in the opposite direction.   Which made me respond finally that est.1 which est.2 whos.3.   A lot of listening to ipconfig.     What etait.3.2 is the last time.  (the est.2 PC and computer laptop est.3)  I still want to understand how these numbers are assigned.

I found the option - rr in my earlier review, but do not know if he had an impact.   Also reluctantly, I created an account with the same name on both systems to try.   First of all, I shared with who.    Later, I could share by using the account name that exists on the PC (lapguest).

I don't really know how the problem etait.2 et.3 mixup questions and/or syntax (file specification must be \\192.168.0.2\share-name) spec not \\PCNAME\share-name and the user must be PCNAME\username) and/or services and windows XP/VISTA problems.  Maybe my new sequence got something instantiated later.   Hope it sticks, whatever it is.   I wrote my orders exactly.  I hope that when I reboot or whether, I not have this problem again.

Ah-ah... before you sign this note, I went to test the laptop via the network printer I had previously put in place of a printed page.  It did not work.  I can't see why.  the specifications of the printer is Photosmart \\192.168.0.3\HP... which was fine before, but now it faudrait.2.  I'll have to add another printer network for the new address.  I hope I remember how to do this.

Now, I can clearly see the benefits of DNS.  Is there a simple way to create a name "servername" instead of having to depend on 192.168.0.n?

  • MKLINK with network drive

I have bee able to make a link to a directory on an external hard drive that is connected directly to the pc with cmd.  I would do the same in a folder on a mapped network drive.  Is this possible?  If so, how?  I tried several ways with no luck.

    MKLINK /j c:Apache2\htdocs\My - f: Movies movies

This returns "local volumes are needed to complete the operation."

    MKLINK /j c:Apache2\htdocs\My - f: Movies movies

the result is "the system does not have the specified path."

    Hello

I understood that, because those are how this page with the same issue, here is the answer.

The entrance was the Cmd window:

    mklink /d \<> \\<>\

    example: mklink /j C:\Photos\Today \\Iomega_HD\Photos\This year

the first location is where you want to place the link and the second location where data you want linked.

  • How to record TV with Media Center (Windows 7) to a network drive?

Well, you would think that the new MediaCenter Windows 7 would live up to the recording of your TV for a network/player sharing. Nevermind, it seems that it is just not possible.

I have a windows 2008 R2 server and a Windows 7 machine with a TV card. Since my server has 2 TB of storage, it would be nice to save directly to a network drive. (I rode like Z :).

    I tried the following:

    1. By selecting Media Center itself: does not. Is not available.
    2. Editing the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording to RecordPath Z:\TV. Does not.
    3. Editing the registry: set RecordPath to \\server\TV. Does not.
    4. Create a symbolic link (mklink \D) of Z:\TV and \\server\TV with parameter in the registry under RecordPath.

I am currently out of options. I could of course install Windows7 on my server, but I have no license for this, and my windows 2008 r2 is free from dreamspark.

So: How is the world possible to make this work? And why not just MediaCenter detects my network sharing?

Record on the network is not supported.  The smallest hiccup of network could cause problems with registration, or even TV live as the recording buffer would be located at the remote location.

One thing you can do is to use Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 and its function of archive TV which you can configure to automatically move all your records or only those you want.

My computer has virus of the FBI, I wiped it is clean but now it cannot connect to intermet because it can't find the network driver how can I find it?

Since you have formatted the PC and reinstalled Windows, your question will be handled better in the hardware forum space and drivers for Windows 7, so I'll move it there.

Apparently, you need to install the driver of your PC network. If you used the CD to restore the PC manufacturer that should have been included, but it may be on a 2nd CD with drivers and programs.

If not, the first thing to do is contact the PC manufacturer to see if they have a driver available for download. If the PC has a wireless network card and wired, perhaps one has been configured, but not the other and you try to use the not yet detected and installed.
