Move iTunes library

I'm in the right forum?  I downloaded several audiobooks to my iPhone 5, to save space on this MacBook Air kept my iTunes library for some time on the external drive. I now want to move to external drive B. I tried doing it through the instructions that can be found via Google, but so far without success. Can some kind soul me in a very simple language what steps are necessary?

Do the drag to the desired location, launch iTunes with the Option (or Shift in Windows) button is pressed and select it.

  • Move iTunes library to a different location on the computer

    Hello

I use the latest version of iTunes running on MacBook Air El Capitan. I'd like to keep my music library on my Mac itself that I travel and may or may not have connectivity.

Now, my library grew to about 45 GB and get the crisis for space on my MacBook.

Question: I have an extra car for the MacBook and you want to move my entire library over there, but don't know how to do without adding all the files again. (I have 45 GB of songs but only 65 to 70% of it are added to ITunes). Also note that I have disabled the option move files added to the iTunes folder.

    Thank you

Moving a library: quick response if you use preferences by default iTunes settings: copy the folder integer iTunes (and to ensure that all of its subfolders and files) intact at the other disk, hold down the option/alt key (shift on Windows) keys to start iTunes and on request to select a library select iTunes Library.itl file in the copied folder. Open a different iTunes library file or create a new one - https://support.apple.com/HT201596

However, you say that you have disabled iTunes organize media. I too use this setup and moved to my library from player to player, but I did pass my HDD and the system to another drive. I suspect since you use songs outside the normal structure that iTunes must use the addressing very specific to keep track of these files and this address should not remain the same on the new drive.  You do not specify files scattered how are.  You can (or not) find that copy the folder iTunes main and all the individual media files wherever they are exactly the same directory structure, more to appoint the external drive exactly the same thing that your internal drive doesn't work. Moving a library to another drive when the Manager media yourself is not something iTunes like and is a consequence of do you things like that.

  • Need simple explanation - move iTunes library to new PC

I'm looking for a simple explanation of the functioning to the iTunes library to MOVE from one PC to another. The current/old computer will go far. KEY: need to keep notes of the song and playlists.  The last time I did I lost the scoring for thousands of songs and lost all the selections.

    Old computer is Windows 7

    New is Windows 10

Is there a software that will do this for me?

    THANKS FOR THE HELP!

    • Where appropriate, consolidate your library so that all media included in the library are stored in iTunes standard media folders
    • Copy the complete library (whether as a result of the default values of iTunes, this will be C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes) from the old PC to the location on the new PC
      • If the library is small, if would be possible to copy over a network or using a USB
      • for large libraries, use an external hard drive as an intermediate storage device
      • Although the Windows copy and paste standard functions ' should be enough, third-party utility (I use Terracopy), or the method described in the user tip of turingtest2 on the backup of your iTunes for Windows with SyncToy library, may be more resistant to errors possible/interruptions during the copy process
    • If you have already installed and launch iTunes on the new PC, you need to overwrite all the files/folders is already present in C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes (this implies that you haven't added all the new PC which is not present on the old media).
    • Now launch iTunes on the new PC - the method described above ensures that data from the old PC iTunes (which is where are stored all your playlists, ratings, etc.) is available on the new.
    • An additional advantage to do this correctly, is that the new PC has now a physical copy of the same logic of the old library, so all iDevices will see this 'the same' library and you can continue the synchronization operations without risk of deletion of the device.

I followed the instructions to move the iTunes library. It became too big for my internal hard drive. I followed the instructions to switch to an external hard drive. The only thing that copy is an empty folder "automatically add to iTunes".

  • Cannot move iTunes library.itl on the desktop

When I turned on my PC today, I found all my iTunes library has been deleted no aparent reason.

Fortunately, I had saved a copy of the library and all the playlists in my hard drive, but in any case whenever I open iTunes, now it says that the library is corrupted, so I have to import the saved old library every time. My music is not lost, but it's annoying to do this, of course.

So I read Apple's Support article on the recovery of the iTunes library, and I tried to follow the steps but when I come to step "Drag the iTunes Library.itl file to your desktop", an error (I'll try to translate it because my computer is in Spanish, it may not be the exact words) :

"This file cant't be moved due to an unexpected error." If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to get help for this problem.

Error 0 x 80070570: the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable. »

How may I order? I know the other option is to delete it, but I can't do either.

It is without saying I have not iTunes open when I do this task, of course.
Also, I looked at the error, but Microsoft did not have an appropriate response. He asked me if I tried to change the directory of the file, but I'm afraid I don't know how to do it.

My operating system is Windows 7

  • Move all backups and iTunes library to external storage

    Hi all

My MBP internal SSD is full so I want to move all the data from iTunes to external storage.

I found how to move the library which was pretty easy.

How can I move my backup files to iPad and iPhone? It seems to be more difficult to achieve.

    Thanks in advance

    Not difficult, read here:

    Two things to remember:

the first time you open iTunes after move your library: hold down the ALT (option) and iTunes point to where you put the library on the external drive. iTunes will remember that.

When you want to use iTunes to make sure that this disk is attached.

  • How can I move content movie House of iPad2 to my iTunes library on my PC?

How can I move content movie House of iPad2 to my iTunes library on my PC?  I can find advice on how to move content from the ITunes library on various devices, but not on how to move the content in iTunes.

I recently had a clean install of windows 10 on my PC and lost all previous programs.  I reinstalled iTunes software but cannot find a way to update the iTunes library by transferring movies in iTunes of the Ipad2.

A few days ago, I synced my iPod with the new iTunes software and lost all my music (who did not care a lot), but I don't want to lose my home movies. There must be a way to make such a transfer.

  • I want to move my itunes library from my old PC to my new Mac, but the files on the PC in the old file structure.  How can I do this?

I'm afraid that if I followed the instructions here (How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support), it will mess up things on my Mac that the file structure is totally different.  Is there a way to first convert the structure of the files on the PC to match the structure of files on Mac?  I've updated the version of iTunes on the PC for 12.1.3 (who he says is the most recent).  I tried following the instructions here: iTunes: understanding iTunes Media organization - Apple support but it is not an "Upgrade to iTunes Media organization" option when I go to the library to organize on the PC.  All advice is appreciated.

This document is a bit outdated. File > library > organize library > reorganize files does the same thing as the the old upgrade to iTunes Media organization. For more information on preparing your library for the move, see make a library of portable split .

  • Move the large Itunes library to QNAP nas

I have a very large iTunes library (28000 + tracks) and move it to a QNAP TS119 nas (disc), so as to add titles to my library my SONOS system can access without the need for my Mac to be marketed.

My question, where should I put on the NAS and what is the best way to transfer files?

When the files are on the NAS I just point itunes to that folder on the NAS Server?

And finally if all goes wrong I can simply point itines in the original file on the Mac.

I have other forms of return such as external hard drives, a time machine WD as well as a sharecentre from D-Link (2 Bay) which I am also faced with.

    Thank you very much.

Or you can move only the media: 12 iTunes for Mac: change where are stored the iTunes files - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

With a NAS you live with some risk. iTunes and NAS not always play well together and there are regular positions here where file locations is stripped completely with use NAS (I think this has something to do with the NAS software).  During an iTunes update can cause complete failure of the library when on a NAS to what NAS manufacturers publish a software update.  If you use the NAS I suggest you use a hard drive regularly to store your library and use the NAS for backup.  If you use the NAS, I would put the entire library on it, not only the multimedia files.

  • I can't move folders/files in the iTunes library

    Hello

I am reorganizing my iTunes library after the implementation of a server. Even if I used the dialog box in iTunes (Preferences) to move the files, many, many links were broken. There is now a location in the library moved with the following path: X:\iTunes Library\Music\Unknown Artist\Unknown Album. The files in this folder are all parts of the existing albums. The rest of the songs from these albums are properly located in the location of the library, which is to library X:\iTunes. Most of these files is purchased AAC files. The files are not corrupt, by what they play. They also seem to have the correct information, when I look in the Properties dialog box, or query information through read in iTunes. In iTunes, it is ALWAYS the path: X:\iTunes Library\Music\artist\album, with the annexed artist/Album information. For example: X:\iTunes Library\Music\Michael buble\christmas\01 it starts to resemble a large number of Like.m4a. I would like to move these files to their correct locations in X:\iTunes Library\artist\album, as well as the rest of the files in the albums they are detached. When I try to move the files, they are not being apparently copied or moved. If I connect them to the entries in iTunes after the move or double click on it to play in iTunes, they disappear from the new location and reappear in a folder with the path X:\iTunes Library\Music\Unknown Artist\Unknown Album or one with a path like this: X:\iTunes Library\Music. I have no solution to this problem, I have tried everything I know to do to fix and searching newsgroups for a solution. I'm on Win10 and iTunes 12.3.1.23. Help, please. This is driving me crazy.

    Scott D.

The typical reason for the files are moved to the folder unknown Artist\Unknown Album is that they do not have a tag or the tag is empty. This is true of all the files in the .wav format, as they have tags. In some cases, mp3 files may have several tags, that maybe not all the same data and including an iTunes reads or updates is not set. ITunes can finally move things forward in the wrong folder where there are permissions issues, but usually that moves things to a level or in rare cases throw them on the desktop.

When you say that allowing you to move the preferences files, you update the path in the media folder and then consolidate library (create copies, leaving you to delete the originals by hand) or did you move them by hand and then update the file? This second method is a common cause of problems. When it works it is a happy coincidence. It is not how you are supposed to move content from iTunes.

In a modern iTunes library, the correct layout for the elements of music is \Music\- with other types of media stored in different subfolders ------.

Follow the steps to repair the security permissions for iTunes for Windows to your Media X:\iTunes library folder.

Verify under file > library > library organize the box to reorder the files is grayed out. In case contrary it check now and apply. It should reorganize and files located in ------------ form. He pourrait also move things out of unknown Artist\Unknown Album.

Look for the entry in the library for one of the files that is still unknown Artist\Unknown Album and information. Check that album & artist are filled. What format is the file? A correction in the name of the song, for example to add an end of X. Assuming you have the possibility to keep organized activated now moves to the right folder? If so turn keep organized power off, then turn it back on it. Who should correct the other misplaced items.

  • move the itunes library on a disk on pc Windows 10

I use ITunes on my Windows 10 photo.  I installed the latest update of ITunes.

My ITunes library is stored on my pc windows 10 under c:\music.  I would like to create a music folder, the c:\OneDrive\music and drag all ITunes music and other files from the current location to the new location.

I would say then ITunes the new location for the music to ITunes and other files.

It would give me the auto backup my library cloud existing ITunes as well as everything I add to it.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Bill

In theory, it should be possible to do it, assuming you have enough storage in OneDrive to host your music library.

Before you try this, make sure that your library is portable and sustained upward.

    Make a portable split library

This done, close iTunes and copy the iTunes folder in its entirety to the folder of a drive.

Once the copy is complete, open iTunes while holding down the SHIFT key on your keyboard. This will allow you to select a library to load when loading iTunes.

Point iTunes to the location of the folder to a drive where you copied the library and wait for it to load.

Note: unless you have moved manually the folder from one drive to C:\ sound usually found in your user folder, not directly on the root of the C:\ drive.

  • Can I move my itunes library to icloud?

Since I have free space, I want to keep my music to icloud. I know that Itunes game is the solution for this, but since I've already bought space in icloud I don't see the reason to pay Itunes game.

I saw that in Itunes > Preferences > advanced, you can change the location of media from Itunes (IMF) folder. If I copy my current MFI to the Icloud folder and edit the route as described, this book?

I guess the same question arises for users who want to store their music on Google Reader.

    Thank you!

    Hello

ITunes game uses no storage iCloud. Read this tip user do and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only broadcast from the cloud.
