  • move the My Documents folder to another drive

Hello! I just upgraded to Win XP Pro for Win 7 x 64. no problems! I would like to move the My Documents folder, my drive C on my drive D. I was able to do under XP, but do not know the procedure for win 7? No information or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The My Documents folder is part of Windows 7 new document library. A library combines several folders that contain similar file types.

To move your documents to the D drive:

    1. create a new folder of documents on the D drive.
    2. right click on the new folder and click include in library > Documents .
    3. click on Start > Documents .
    4. double-click My Documents to display its content.
5 drag and drop the files to the new folder.
    6. press F5 to refresh the view.
    7. in the document library , click locations .
    8. right click on the new folder, and then click set as default save location .
    9. [optional] click My Documents , and then click Remove .

I have drive C (VISTA OS) 55 GB free of 3%. (System start-up, swapfile, active crash dump, primary partition)

    Hey Jean vc

back up your data on d: delete d: and c: and then extend it in the unallocated space where d: is

read the below tutorial on how to do

  • Move the user off the system disk folders? Envy of all the data on E, so need to move directories user E. not individually, but in the world. If all new users, I create will have their user and docs folder on E.

Got a new laptop with win 7 home premium pre-installed. Using the language of win 7... I have decreased the volume of HDD to 55 GB.  Made new simple volumes. I want all the data personal on E, so need to move user directories to E. No individually change the location tab on dozens of files, but in the world. If all new users, I create will have their user and docs folder on E from the gitgo.

Under XP, I could just change the 'My Documents' link on each desktop, go to the e. * instead of c *. *, but with win7?

As a Windows Home Server and most wise OS facilities, the system drive is isolated and a drive of 2 or 3 for everything else.  Get a problem? Just restore the system drive.

    You need the answer?

    Thank you

PS Microsoft: This backup/do imaging software, why don't we name the image so many can all be stored on easily in one place without having to go and rename it or move them elsewhere?

    Hello TomZork,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

In another forum, I found the instructions to move folders of users to another drive.
You can follow the post here. This is attributed to Jimmie R. Houts.

    Article:
You can move the entire folder C:\Users to another drive quite easily once windows is installed:

    1. Boot from the installation media and access the command prompt (I think you need to click on fix everything first)
    2. Use Robocopy to copy C:\Users to D:\Users: robocopy c:\Users d:\Users /mir /xj
      a. /mir says robocopy to mirror directories, this will copy all files and permissions
      b. /xj is very important, it means robocopy does not follow the points of junction. If you forget this, you will have a lot of trouble.
    3. Make sure that the files copied successfully
    4. Delete c:\Users
    5. Create the junction pointing d:\Users: mklink /d c:\Users d:\Users

That's all. I used this process for Vista RTM with no problems.

Here's an article that explains as well. Just use robocopy instead of xcopy as it does in the article in order to avoid possible ntfs permissions problems.

Update: because I discovered the hard way, I thought I would mention also that if you plan on switching "Program Data", or "Program Files" with this method, you will be disappointed to know that everything works as expected, but the windows updates will install is no longer. I don't know if this problem has been fixed in Win 7.

With the foregoing, it is not a Microsoft forum or Web site so you will have to use at your own risk. I also recommend to do a system restore point before making any changes in directories that you can then go back to a previous state.

Please reply back and let us know if these suggestions help you to solve your problem, then to benefit others.

    Sincerely,

  • Firefox 6 need to move the cache (files temporary folder) to a specific file

Hello I need to know how to move the temporary file for firefox folder 6. I managed to do it easily for IE as it can be done from the settings tabs for firefox but, I need to access the topic: config so I understand. However after that I implemented browser.cache.disk;D:\Temporary Internet Files and browser.cache.offline;D:\Temporary Internet Files, nothing seems to happen like firefox still uses the original place

Pref is correct browser.cache.disk.parent_directory - does not exist by default, the user needs to create.

  • I can not move the files to a folder in windows XP, only to copy them, and I get the windows error. This happens on any file or folder.

I use XP Pro SP 3 and I'm having a problem with moving the files from one folder to another, no matter where the folder or files. If I try to move a file, it crashes and it cannot be opened or used. If I move a folder, then crashes all the contents of the folder, and I can't even open the folder, it tells me access is denied, this nothing else. If I try to delete the file, then I get a prompt to error telling me that the file or folder is not accessible, and that access is denied and "make sure that the disk is not full or write protected." If I try to move the files corrupt in another folder, this time I get the message "Unable to move or replace" the file in question and "make sure that the disk is not full or write protected." If it is a document as a text file, then I can open the file and there is a prompt indicating that access is denied. I can then use the text document and save something, but if I close the document and then try to reopen it, all the changes are lost.
It is not this problem if I move the files to an external device or disk drive.
I am running as an administrator.
Right now, if I need to move a file, I copy it to its destination, which is possible and then delete the original file. With the help of a release program was the only way I could delete these files, which could no longer be used.

    Hello Closrapexa, welcome.

    1. do you have this problem started recently?

I recommend trying the system restore to bring the system back to a State before the problem started. Try this:
    1. click on START
    2. click on "all programs".
    3. click on "Accessories".
    4. click on "system tools."
    5. click on "system restore."
6 follow the prompts shown to restore your system to a date before the problem started. Although the system restore does not target the personal data, it is recommended that you back up all data such as music, photos and documents in case something is not bad.
    Let us know what happens
    Thank you!

  • [3.0.04] defined by the user to remove folder report

    Hello Forum,
A few days ago I got a new computer and exported my reports defined by the user of the old installation. After you import these into the new facility, all reports have been put in an additional subfolder. Since I was on the German location, the reports have been made in "Berichte Berichte/user of custom. I could move a folder to the top by cut and paste, but now I want to remove the empty subfolder, but I don't have the menu options to do.
Is it possible to get rid of that subfolder?

    Many thanks in advance,
    dhalek

    Hello dhalek,

It is a bug. Add to the file...-sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf line AddVMOption - Duser.language = in, start new SQLDeveloper (in English), and then they have the desired menu. Then you can reset the parameter to return.

(Sorry for my bad English. The answer in German:
Das ist noch ein Fehler. Fügen Sie in der Datei... line die \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf AddVMOption - Duser.language = in portals, starten Sie SQLDeveloper neu (English) dann haben Sie die required Menus. Danach können Sie den parameter auf of zuruckstellen.)

  • Mail application cannot find the user/Library/Mail folder

    Hello

Recently my laptop crashed and I had to reinstall first OSX 10.5.8, so I've updated to 10.6.8 and now I have the latest version of El Capitan.

In the first two versions relocated I could normally restart Mail with my backup files restored (had to reinstall all the good e-mail accounts), but now I want to open the mail application in El Capitan and it won't open, saying that it does not find a user/Library/Mail folder. But it IS a Mail folder and there all the restored items and folders inside.

I also find the file com.apple.mail.plist in my preferences, I thought that maybe that was the problem, but it seems that it is not.

    Can anyone help please?

If the folder you want is "user/Library/Mail" then the folder in fact does not exist.  Try instead "~/Library/Mail.

  • Not the users and groups folder under computer management

Original title: no access to users and groups in Windows 8 Pro

Right click on computer, select Manage

There is no option in the management of the computer!

    WHY? How to view?
    Thank you
    Hi Johnny,.

Looks like you are unable to get users and groups under computer management.

I would like to gather information to help you:

    (1) how do you try to locate users and groups under computer management?
    (2) you are able to view other folders in the same section?
    (3) don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

I suggest you to check if the steps will help you to locate users and groups folder under Computer Management:

    (a) Windows and X set button, and then select computer management.
    (b) double click on system tools.
    (c) click on local users and groups.
    (d) check if you are able to find users and groups folder.

  • Move the image to one folder to another - E10

I would like to move an image from one folder to another folder and I can't figure out how to do this.  Is this possible?  Does anyone know how?

    Thank you

    Vince

It is not as intuitive Vince but you must drag up to navigation in folders, then release.

I hope explains it to the captain.

I have only one level of folders deep, but if you have folders in the folders, pretty sure that you can drag it above the folder that you want it to be, i.e. moving the image up a level.

  • Move the user ORGANIZATIONAL unit is failing in AD

    Hello

I use moveuser method in AD OOTB to move user in AD.
    I'm getting ' AD. USER_OR_ORG_DOES_NOT_EXIST'.
How the user is never in AD OR old and the new ORGANIZATIONAL unit is also there.
Previously, I am turning off the user. How will I know whether or not the user is disabled on AD. The status of the task shows "user disabled successfully".

    Thank you and best regards,
    SK

    Which user are you trying?

It seems that Admin ID which is present in ADITResource doesn't have sufficient permissions to perform the operation.

Give the permission to that user, then try.

  • Can you please tell me how I arrange and move the images in a folder like in XP, when I drag and drop a picture, it comes down to its original position

Organize and rearrange the images in a folder named as in XP. You could organize by date, size, etc. and do drag and drop all in a folder, it is not possible in Windows 7

    Hi Halohodge,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

You can't manually rearrange files/images by dragging them in the folder in Windows 7. This change is design in Windows 7.

If you have concerns or comments with respect to the question or any other Microsoft application, please see the links below and send the same:

    Comments for Windows 7

If you are referring to the reorganize by date, size, etc. then you can always do than simply right click and selecting the option of sort by in the drop-down list when it appears in the photo or file folder.
