Move the virtual computers folder to another computer?

Hi, I would like to move the virtual computers folder of my laptop to a desktop computer much faster with several hard drives and space. This will have a new installation of VMserver 2.

What I do on the new desktop so that the guest VM starts.

On the laptop the VMserver is installed on the 'C' drive with the virtual computers folder on the disk "D". This may or may not be the case on the new office!

Thank you

Paul

Should be relatively easy if you follow these steps:

(1) stop (do not hang in the case has different chiptset between the two hosts) all running VMs

(2) copy all of the files and folders that are there for the virtual machines that you want your host existing to the new, either to files in the existing data store or create a new data store that points to the folder heierarchy where you copy them on.

(3) check files hard .vmx and ascii on arrival to ensure that they reflect the paths right on the new machine

(4) in the web user interface, find the .vmx files and add them to the inventory (see screenshot)

(5) check in the virtual machine network adapters are you like in case they are different between the two hosts

(6) start them

VMwareFusion is to put the "Virtual Machines" folder in the Documents folder in the home folder (/users/ [username] / Documents), how can I move elsewhere (as/Library/Application Support)? The user Documents folder is not the right place for automated it system files, it is intended for personal documents.

I am running VMware Fusion on OS X Yosemite (and the virtual machine is Windows 7).

You can keep your virtual machines anywhere you want. Here are the steps to move:

1 exit VMware Fusion. You can stop first of all of your running virtual machines.

    2. drag your virtual computers folder or the individual VM "files" where you / them. Filenames usually end in ".vmwarevm". There is no need to call the new folder "Virtual Machines" - you can call it anything you like.

    3. Launch VMware Fusion. If the library of the Virtual Machine window is not open, open it (Windows menu-> Virtual Machine library).

    4. ensure that all of your icons for the virtual machine are light gray and say "file not found".

    5. right click on each virtual machine in turn, and select Remove. When you are done, leave the window of Machine virtual library empty open.

    6. in the Finder, drag the icons of file virtual machine in their new location and drop them in library of virtual machines VMware Fusion window. Drop them one by one in the original order, you got, or rearrange icons later.

    7. run your virtual machines as before.

When you create new virtual computers, navigate to the desired file before the Save.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you your folder of Machines ~/Documents/Virtual excluded from backups Time Machine, don't forget to change the exclusion to the new folder.

Time Machine backups are not reliable for virtual machines. You must have another strategy. (I shut the virtual machine down, compress the 'file', and then move the compressed file to a folder that is included in the Time Machine backups. This isn't the only strategy, but it works for me.)

  • move the My Documents folder to another drive

The My Documents folder is part of Windows 7 new document library. A library combines several folders that contain similar file types.

To move your documents to the D drive:

    1. create a new folder of documents on the D drive.
    2. right click on the new folder and click include in library > Documents .
    3. click on Start > Documents .
    4. double-click My Documents to display its content.
5 drag and drop the files to the new folder.

  • Expand or move the virtual machine to another partition / hard disk

I tried to expand my 90 GB disk but nothing changes, i.e. the virtual machine is still to 60 GB. I have VMware Fusion 6 (Mac/Windows 10) and my VM is monolithic mode. In this true HD, I even 50 GB free and I can't increase the amount again in an attempt to rectify this problem and I can not to decrease either. I thought to change the location of the virtual machine to another partition/hd with more space, but I don't know how. So I need little help to choose and implements one of the solutions below:

    - or regularise space for the new amount

    - or move the virtual machine (vmdk) to an another partition/HD

    - or to convert monolithic mode to 2 GB split

    What is the best solution?

    Thanks in advance

    It's help me;

Resize a Windows Partition with disk management tool

When you maximize your virtual hard disk, you must also expand partition of your guest operating system to take advantage of the extra space.

Fusion resizes the partition of the guest operating system when you resize the virtual hard disk. If you hold the Option key when you click apply to resize the drive, you can manually resize the Windows partition. For Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista you can use the operating system's disk management tool to resize a partition.

    Prerequisites

Check that your virtual hard disk is large enough to accept the increase in the size of the partition. See resize a hard disk.

    Procedure

1 right click on computer and select Manage.

    2. double-click on storage.

    3 double-click disk management.

4 in the list, right click on the partition to expand and select Extend the Volume.

5 follow the prompts to resize the partition and click complete and the question of the partition in the disk management pane displays its new size.

    6. close the computer management window

  • Cannot move the virtual computer to a different location to store data/all

    Hello

I'm physical conversion into virtual machine using the VM converter. When I try this it I get the message error "the file is too big" or something similar. I did some research and realize that my block on the data store size is not large enough. Fine. I know how to format the data store so that it uses a larger block size. However, I need to pass the current VM to another location. I downloaded some of the smallest virtual machine on a local computer, but for most virtual machine I want to plug a USB hard drive in the server VM to move large virtual machine. How can I do this? Is there another way I can move the virtual machine to another location without hassle? I thought to plug a USB hard drive on my local machine and upload it.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

I also encountered this problem, and I solved a couple of different ways.

    1. If you have a UNIX server that is running NFS, you can configure a "dropbox" with 777 rights.  Then create a datastore NFS pointing to it, and then use the clone or clone for model option to copy in the NFS data store.

    2. use the product only settlement converter and convert them in one place.  Wipe the data store, reformat with the largest block size and then convert them back.

    Both works perfectly.

I use Windows XP - perfectly up-to-date.  Whenever I have move photos from one folder to another file, the picture is no longer available and cannot be removed with using unlocker.  This has happened for several years.  I copy pictures and new folders whenever I want to move them, but sometimes I forget and move them and then I lose the picture I'm trying.  I also noticed that there is a strange file that opens in the trash that won't let me remove it without using unlocker. These files start with "Dd" followed be a number.  When I delete these use unlocker, another will appear the a different number on this subject.  It is a very maddening problem.  It is not possible for me to do a system restore because it lasts for quite awhile.  Please help - I'm tired of losing pictures that I can't replace.  Thank you for your help.

  • How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive

How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive?

    TIA

    Hi Benyl,

The vhd in programfiles basis cannot be moved or renamed, if done, xp mode stops at the start.

To move the files under c, first to boot xp, instead of save mode the machine virtual., turn it off. (settings to prompt the user for action narrow close). Close the machine virtual., and then choose stop. This will remove the vsv file. Do not delete the .vsv file because it contains data if you have not registered in the virtual machine.

Now, move it "C:\Users\CHRIS.domainname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vhd" to a desired location.

Parameters of xp mode open, go to the hard drive 1 setting and reposition the hard drive to the new location of the vhd. You should now be able to start the virtual machine.

  • Windows 8 will not let me move the AppData\Local folder to new drive

    All,

I wanted to get my user account files from C drive which is a smaller SSD drive at most of my hard drive. I encountered several problems.

A lot of trial and error, I was able to move each file of folder of the user account to an identical structure on my drive D (a "spinner"). Once I worked on all the kinks, everything worked without problems.

However, I was unable to move the hidden AppData folder. I discovered there are three subfolders: roaming local and LocalLow. I was able to move LocalLow and roaming without problem. However, Local gave me problems.

I discovered that the Local had some folders and files under it for which I have no permissions. Once I gained permissions for them, I thought I was on my way. The command to move the folder (using the Properties dialog box) has started working on the transition of 79 000 files. He moved all but 19 of them. He choked on all 12-15 files that have been opened and used by the system and the balance of the 19 had too long of a file name. So, I was disappointed.

I then decided to create another administrator account and the sign of the current account and connect to the temporary administrator account that I had just created. I thought that I could then move the files because they would not be opened and used by the system. But, when I open the Properties dialog box, the LOCATION tab was gone, so I could not move the files.

I need answers to two questions:

    • Why Microsoft would give the user a LOCATION tab with a NAVIGATION button, if it was impossible to move the AppData\Local folder?
    • Is there another way that a layman like me can change this setting? Can someone direct me to here? (Such as it is, 2 of the 3 AppData files are on drive D and 1 is always the SSD C drive.)

    Thank you.

    Matt

OK, I fixed using a symbolic link. I moved my complete record of users. Here are the steps I used:

    • Create a folder on the "C" drive, called "this_is_c" and create a folder on the disk "D", called "this_is_d" - it is only for identification purposes in the later stages.
    • Boot from the Windows 8 Pro disc. (In other words, will not start hard drive.)
    • Do not choose 'Install now' - choose ' repair you computer.
    • Then choose troubleshooting
    • Choose Advanced Options
    • Then choose command line
    • The player that appears corresponds to the player 'X' - which is the recovery disk.
    • Type "C:" to switch to the 'C' drive
    • Type "Dir" and see if you see the folder "this_is_c".
    • If you do not, continue to change letters until you see this folder.
    • It worked that the 'C' drive during this "repair" was maybe the same as my 'C' drive when I boot normally.
    • Find the "D" drive through the same process - that is, try to find the folder "this_is_d".
    • It worked that the "D" drive during this "repair" was maybe the same as my "D" drive when I boot normally.
    • Type this command: xcopy/e/k/o/h/b c:\Users d:\Users see the next chip
    • First drive name must be the name of the drive as the "repair" attributed to your normal boot drive 'C '. The second disc should be burned as it would be during a normal boot. So, in my case, these conditions were the same. Note: use a capital 'U' for users instead of lowercase 'u' in users.
    • Type "D" when prompted.
    • Type the following command: rd /s c:\Users
    • Type this command: mklink /d c:\Users d:\Users
    • Type this command: exit
    • Continue to start.

This will create a symbolic link that will redirect all actions to or from users on 'C' folder in the new folder users on "D". In regards to windows system knows, he is still sending the disk of 'C '. It is just redirected.

This works perfectly for me. I installed apps and run programs without problem.

It's a sort of understand. But it works for me.

  • Move the Mobile Applications folder

Running iTunes 12 on El Captain on my iMac with a 256 GB SSD and 2 TB HD.  The SSD (my drive home) fills, and I move as much as I can on the HD (data files, that is, no apps) or core files.  I moved my iTunes music library, but I'm struggling to see how I can move the Mobile Applications folder (now up to 10 GB) on.  The question was asked before and answer, although in 2009/10.  The option to hold the SHIFT key when you start iTunes is no longer seems to result in a request for the .itl file.  After you have moved the whole iTunes folder, everything that happened was that a new was created instead of the old - my music was OK but my iOS apps were not found.

I have no problem if iTunes must keep records of library on the drive home, even if I spend all the rest (media, apps and work) if possible (and relatively simple).  Any ideas?

You can move all of these applications in a folder, don't talk about mobile applications for guard duty. Even if you redid your iMac, you can create a folder with the Media Kit located in the iTunes folder once you launch iTunes for the first time. You will need to use the function 'add to library' to get the iTunes to recognize these apps. I've never tried "add to library" with the folder of mobile applications that is not located in the Media folder in the iTunes folder. But you can try as a test.
