I moved a drive of a machine that worked a little better. The drive works fine. This silent activation keeps appearing. I took the car to a Sony Viao which is about 8 years old and that worked very well except a few small problems

which were resolved by moving the hard drive to another machine. How to get down this thing of activation? I tried all the things that appear, but they do not match because I changed machines. I'm getting pissed.

Reinstall windows. You can just change the hard disks from one system to the other. And expect things to work correctly

  • Moving a hard drive with XP installed on a CPU to another processor already running Windows 7

I have a CPU which is out of service.  I would take this machine's hard drive and add it to another machine.

The hard drive, I want to spend has XP installed on it.  I would move it to a CPU running Windows 7.
Will there be conflict?  I'm not running XP, I want to only be able to access the files on that drive.

  • Moved from HARD drive on computer newest and stuck in boot loop

My old Dell computer died.  I moved my drive to a newer Dell computer. I'm stuck in a boot loop when I turn on.  I guess I need to repair or reinstall my windows XP to the new motherboard.  I upgraded from 95-98-XP over the years.  My XP upgrade disk is not bootable.  How to repair or reinstall Windows XP?  I do not think that re-formatting in FAT32, 95 installation, the upgrade to 98, and then upgrade to XP and NTFS formatting are a good answer.

I have a XP Home edition boot disk (Dell) from the original HARD disk in the most recent computer.  I am able to use it and enter the recovery console, but don't know if I can do something here to repair the installation of XP Pro.

    Thank you

If your Windows XP upgrade disk is not in Service Pack 3 (SP3), and then create a slipstreamed XP version which includes SP3 and then try to install it.

Create a "Slipstreamed" of integrating XP SP3 version
AutoStreamer, it is easy to use and for the most part explicit.
After you create the CD then do a "clean install", see the last part

  • VMX file missing after moving the hard drive

    Hello

I have a problem with my VM Windows 8, it has stopped working when I moved the physical SSD in a different SATA port on the motherboard. I moved because he was running on the SATA2 instead of the SATA3 and its an SSD.

When I open VM Workstation 10 I expected to see the virtual machine waiting to be taken up (he was suspended before moving on SSD) but there was only the start option. I pressed start and it gave me a message

"Could not open computer virtual: E:\windows 8.1\Windows 8.1.vmx.

    File not found

Then I looked in the phone book and it was noware to be seen! It's just gone. I noticed that there is a file to suspend in the name, it also disappeared at some point.

I tried to recreate the file .vmx following these instructions:

VMware KB: Recovery of a lost or deleted Workstation virtual machine configuration file

I used the same directory and the name of the current virtual machine. When I tried the virtual machine, I got this error:

"The specified file is not a virtual disk.

I then tried the again, this time using the same directory, but a different name.

This time it loaded up, but took a long time, when he finally got the sign in screen that I put my password as normal, but when I looked through the C:\ drive all my programs and documents had disappeared!

Really starting to panic now, I have loads of work on this virtual machine. I created snapshots, but they do not display inside VMWare, the files are still there.

I have someone would watch via Skype or team Viewer please let me know and I will set up a screen sharing.

Thanks for reading, hope someone can help.

Can you confirm that you have changed the hard with VMware Workstation closed? And you fixed the problem on the disk that appeared when you ran chkdsk?

What you can try is to see if it works to clone the virtual disk manually by running

    VMware - vdiskmanager.exe, t 0 - r 'Windows 8.1 - 000001.vmdk' 'Windows 8.1 - Clone.vmdk.

(you may need to provide the full path to the executable file)

If it doesn't work, that shows the same error message: the GUI?

  • Motherboard crashed on the old computer. Moved old hard drive to new computer to access all the files. I can't locate my extensive library of bookmark on the old drive. Is there a way?

The old functions drive crashed motherboard perfectly in this most recent computer as drive "F". However I can't find a way to access the library from the bookmarks that I had before moving here, this player to the newest computer then reinstall fresh Firefox.

Is there maybe any file system or another that has perhaps kept my bookmarks of Firefox library?

That should not happen, Firefox would have no reason to look for an old profile everywhere except the reader where the active Windows version is installed. Make sure you Show hidden files and folders in folder-> Display Options in Control Panel.

  • error when I moved vmdk (hard drive)

    Hello

I moved a vmdk on another record. I am tring to remove hard dist pointing way older and to generate the new path

And now when I try to start my VM said:

"The capacity of the disk virtual parent and the child disk capacity are different.

I'm trying to restore my changes but still get the same error.

    Is possible to fix it?

Thank you and sorry for my English!

I'll have to sign off now for today. Anyway, in case you find the mentioned parent virtual disk, then you need to change the "SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 64-bit-000001. " VMDK"file, by adding the absolute path to the entrance of parentFileNameHint , for example.

    < -="" parentfilenamehint="SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 64-bit.vmdk">

    "" > - parentFileNameHint = 'E:\Path-to-vmdk\SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 64 - bit.vmdk.

  • Moving a hard drive with PowerCLI

I have a vm with several discs. I have create a new virtual machine, to attach a disk of the virtual machine first to this hard new using New-disk and passing the path to the vmdk.

The final bit, that I need is to remove the disc from the first virtual machine so that I can turn on the second. I can't work out how to do this with powerCLI, of course, it is quite easy using the GUI.

    Any ideas?

    Hello, Deanb61-

Decent docs: Yes, VMware support site has legitimate documentation: https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/PowerCLI/.  From there, you can see the documentation for the desired version of PowerCLI.  Of course, check the latest version the most up-to-date docs/features/etc.  Particular, Get-disk hard Ref is currently at http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/index.jsp#com.vmware.powercli.cmdletref.doc/Get-HardDisk.html.

You can find the name of the hard disk on the original VM with the first bit below and use that name, then remove the disk said.  Or, the second line of code just relies on the way to the store of data (filename) from the drive and deletes the given virtual machine disk.

    ## get the VM's disks and their names, so as to use its name laterGet-HardDisk -VM myVM | select Name,Filename,CapacityGB

    ## or, just get the hard disk with the given filename, and remove itGet-HardDisk -VM myVM | Where-Object {$_.Filename -eq "[myDStore0] myVM/myVM1.vmdk"} | Remove-HardDisk -DeletePermanently:$false

  • moving a hard drive to a new Mac disorder by iTunes?

    Hello

My 2006 Macbook seems to have definitively failed.

Reflection on the installation of its drive system in a Mac Pro as an additional player.

Both are old, under Snow Leopard.

Both have installed itunes, and both computers are allowed with my itunes account.

What I wonder about is the following: after putting the drive in the Mac Pro Macbook, when I run iTunes hd from Macbook, iTunes will be be messed up due to the change?

    See you soon!

Take a look to make a library of portable split. As long as your library is in standard form, you should be able to start-option-iTunes and connect to the folder library in some way is convenient. I suggest you usually move the iTunes folder to the root of the drive if it will not be found in the normal position of the user's music.

  • I moved my hard drive to another computer and once connected to windows told me that I need to activate windows?

Once logged into windows, it tells me that I need to activate windows. I click Yes to activate and it tells me that windows is already activated, click OK and it returns me to my log in page over and over. Why? and what to do about it?

Because you are allowed to install and activate Windows on ONE computer and product activation has now determined that you try to use the installation on another computer.  If it is a retail version of Windows XP and if you move the installation to new hardware call Microsoft and explain the problem.  If it is an OEM version, like a Dell or HP installation and if you move it to another computer that you are to the top of the Creek with this, you are not allowed to move an installation OEM on another computer, it is linked to the computer on which it was sold with and he will die with this computer.

  • Recently, I built a new computer and used my old hard drive. Now, I can't activate Windows XP via internet or telephone?

    Hello

I recently built a new computer with a new motherboard, processor and RAM.  The computer works well, but I can't go through the activation of Windows XP.  I tried connecting via internet, and he said that I didn't have a connection, which I know that I do because I can connect to the internet on my motherboard cloud browser.  I tried to call the number that was given, but the computer says that it is not a valid product.  I know that my copy of Windows XP is valid - in my old system, it worked fine.

Please help me to activate my version of Windows XP.

If the old version of Windows XP is installed on the computer when you bought it, you invalidated the license by moving the hard drive to a new system.  This license lives and dies on the parent computer/card origin.  If it was a copy of the (bought in a store) retail of Windows, I'd recommend replace because move one disk hard from one computer to the other, sometimes translated as difficult solve incompatibilities due to driver problems.

  • After changing hard drives on my Toshiba laptop, won't activate Windows Vista.

I have two laptops Toshiba Satellite, I bought new. Due to hardware failures, I changed the hard drive of a laptop in the other. Everything works fine, but now the Panel / System states that I have two days until automatic activation. He also said whenever I try the option activate the invalid product key! The Microsoft product Authenticity sticker is more readable on the laptop where the hard drive was born. In question operating system is Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Help, please!

    original title: activation problem?

You can buy a full license of Windows 7 and install it, but make sure that your computer meets the Windows 7 system requirements

You need a qualification license Windows to upgrade; you don't when you moved the hard drive.

You don't say what the problem is with the hard drive of the laptop you are trying to install this hard drive Vista preinstalled from the other laptop in.

If you bought them at the same time, two thay have Vista Home Premium on them?

Why not use this laptop you try to go there and his original hard drive, if still OK.

If its hard drive is not OK > you can then put this "non-genuine" hard drive in it > reinstall the correct version of Vista that is pre-installed on the notebook computer > then purchase an upgrade to Windows 7 If you wanted to.

One of the posters put this Information in place in the Forums:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-windows_install/FAQ-common-Windows-7-installation-questions/6719ae72-7187-45CD-80f7-55e66f3ec686

And most importantly make sure that Toshiba has Windows 7 drivers available for your model laptop activate Windows 7 works correctly.

    See you soon.
