Moving database from 1 server to another via Data Pump - some queries

Hello

I am planing to move my database from one windows server to another. Part of the obligation is also to update this database 10g to 11.2.0.3. So I'm combining 2 tasks using the export / import method (via Data Pump) upgrade.

Regarding export / import (which will be a pump full data of the database export) my plan is.

create an empty 11.2.0.3 target database on the server (same number of control files, and redo logs etc.) ready for an import of the source database
Q1. This will create tablespaces SYSTEM and UNDO - I presume the datapump export doesn't include these spaces of storage anyway?

For export, I intend to simulate CONSISTENT = Y using FLASHBACK_TIME = SYSTIMESTAMP
Q2. What is the return of flame characteristics must be active on the source database to use this knowledge should I Flashback Database enabled on the source (as opposed to other flashback features) database?

My target is a virtual server with a single virtual processor
Q3. Is there any point PARALLEL usinng in the import settings file (normally I would fix this number of processors - however in the case of this virtual server, it is actually onely a virtual processor)?

For the import, I intend to use the REMAP_DATAFILE option to change the location of the data files on the target server

Q4. If the import fails before the end, what is the best course of action? for example I just let go of data storage spaces and remake a complete import?

Thank you
Jim

Jim,

I'll take a pass on your questions:

create an empty 11.2.0.3 target database on the server (same number of control files, and redo logs etc.) ready for an import > source database
Q1. This will create tablespaces SYSTEM and UNDO - I presume the datapump export does not include these storage spaces > anyway?

The system tablespace is created when you create a database, but the Data Pump will export and try to import. It will fail with tablespace exists. I am sure that the undo tablespace will be also exported and imported. If they are there, then just import will report that they already exist.

For export, I intend to simulate CONSISTENT = Y using FLASHBACK_TIME = SYSTIMESTAMP
Q2. What is the return of flame characteristics must be active on the source database to use this knowledge should I Flashback Database active > on the source (as opposed to other flashback features) database?

I know not true about it. I thought that you need just enough cancel, but I hope that others will run in.

My target is a virtual server with a single virtual processor
Q3. Y at - it no PARALLEL point usinng in the import settings file (normally I put this on the number of processors - > however in the case of this virtual server, it is actually onely a virtual processor)?

We recommend usually 2 times the number of processes, so 2 parallel should be ok.

For the import, I intend to use the REMAP_DATAFILE option to change the location of the data files on the target server

Q4. If the import fails before the end, what is the best course of action? that is, do I just give up storage of data and redo a > full import?

It depends what is failure. Most of the failures will not stop work, but if this is the case, then most of these jobs may simply be restarted. To restart a job, you just need to know the name of the task, which is printed as you start to export/import, or you name the task in your order Data Pump. To restart, follow these steps:

password/user Impdp attach = job_name

If you do not name the work, the name of the job will be something like

User.sys_import_full_01

Hope that helps - and good luck with your migration.

    OK, what about triggers, sequences, synonyms and links from DB? This will affect anything?

    If you stop the database cleanly and then copy all THE files to a new installation of the same version of Oracle on another machine using the same folder structure (a COLD backup) it can not miss anything.

    Re-reading the initial recognition, seeing that they do NOT change the versions of Oracle and do NOT change their operating system, it would seem that a cold backup and a restore would be the preferred method.  Very probably fewer service interruptions and a guaranteed relentless, nothing will 'disappear' from the database...

  • Migrating the database from one server to another..., what are the impacts?

    Hello

    We currently have our Hyperion (workspace, planning, essbase) environment on a single windows server. The associated database (Oracle) with it is on another Windows Server.

    The platform will be shared, and for this, the database will be migrated on the server of hyperion. During the process, its name will be changed (but the users/schemas/password will remain)

    How to make the platform Hyperion welcomes such a change? The server name can be changed somehow in the configuration? Or do we reinstall us from scratch, the application?

    Thanks in advance for your help. Best regards.

    There is no need to re install, you will have to reconfigure all products with the new name of the host of the database by running the configuration utility, when you are prompted to use select existing table.
    Once Setup is complete for planning, you must change the information in the database for each application by modifying the database,

    Version number will be a real help here.

    See you soon... !!

  • How do you 'move' databases from one server to another

    Hello

    Here is a brief description of my assignment.

    We have two Redhat Linux 4 64-bit server where two Oracle 10.2.0.4 database 64-bit run (one on each server).
    < li > DB on server1 is using file system for storage.
    < li > DB on the 2nd Server using ASM.
    < li > size of the two is between 75 and 80 GB.
    < li > I need to move data to new servers (same platform) with minimum downtime.
    < li > there is no upgrade required during this displacement and migration. The two DBs must be returned as-is.
    < li > new servers can be on VMWare - I do not know it right now. But please let me know if that will make a difference.

    I'd be very grateful if someone could please provide me with some high level guidelines to make this move.

    Best regards

    Yes, you need to install DSO on the new server. If you do not have media / downloaded installers used for the installation of the first server, you can connect a SR with Oracle's Support for a new download / CD media.

  • What is the process to move the VCenter SQL DB from one server to another?

    I read the threads for the displacement of vCenter Server and it's local database from one server to another. My situation is a little different.

    VirtualCenter Server 2.5 build 174768 has it's SQL database on another server.  We're going to retire that SQL server only and move just the DB to a new SQL Server - current vCenter server will not be affected.

    I'm trying to figure out how knowledge current vCenter once used SQL server (DCMNMSSQL02) DB is now on the server DCMSQL07 - which all on stays of DB.

    Hello.

    You must update the DSN on the server vCenter.  See the article kb 7960893 for more information.

    Good luck!

  • VMDK moving from one server to another

    We have a server ESXi free vSphere 4 a third device that uses of 200 GB of hard drive space.  We must move from this server to another server ESXi 4 only 130 GB of free space.  So my question is how to move and how reduce us it?

    We have a company of vSphere 4.1 license, so we have converter but that would work in this case since niether the source or destination servers are allowed?

    Hello

    You can use stand-alone Vmware converter to migrate the virtual machine to an ESXi host to another host ESXi. During this process,.

    You can play with the size of vmdk. You can go to advance tab and increase or decrease the size of vmdk, add another vmdk and move the partition to an another vmdk etc...

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

    Hello

    1. create a property file (this example is relevant if you have a repository of ORACLE, you can find more information in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/frameset.htm?ch09s01s01.html]):

    SOURCE_APP_JDBC_CATALOG = SOURCE_APP
    SOURCE_APP_JDBC_DRIVER = Hyperion.JDBC.Oracle.OracleDriver
    SOURCE_APP_JDBC_URL = jdbc:hyperion:oracle://RepositoryDatabaseServer; SID = DatabaseSID
    SOURCE_APP_JDBC_USERNAME = schemaName
    SOURCE_APP_JDBC_PASSWORD = schemaPassword
    SOURCE_APP_JDBC_DATABASE_TYPE = ORA
    SOURCE_APP_OLAP_SERVER = olapServerName:port
    SOURCE_APP_OLAP_USERNAME = olapUserName
    SOURCE_APP_OLAP_PASSWORD = olapUserPassword
    SOURCE_APP_OLAP_APPNAME = SOURCE_APP

    TARGET_APP_JDBC_CATALOG = TARGET_APP
    TARGET_APP_JDBC_DRIVER = Hyperion.JDBC.Oracle.OracleDriver
    TARGET_APP_JDBC_URL = jdbc:hyperion:oracle://RepositoryDatabaseServer; SID = DatabaseSID
    TARGET_APP_JDBC_USERNAME = DatabaseSchemaName
    TARGET_APP_JDBC_PASSWORD = DatabaseSchemaPassword
    TARGET_APP_JDBC_DATABASE_TYPE = ORA
    TARGET_APP_OLAP_SERVER = olapServerName:port
    TARGET_APP_OLAP_USERNAME = olapUserName
    TARGET_APP_OLAP_PASSWORD = olapUserPassword
    TARGET_APP_OLAP_APPNAME = TARGET_APP

    2. open CMD and type copyapp /S:yourSourceAppName T:yourTargetAppName P:yourPropertiesFileName.properties /L:yourLogFileName.log

    Once the migration has been successful, you must update your users using the UpdateUsers.cmd (UpdateUsers.cmd and PlanningUserName PlanningUserPassword TARGET_APP).

    I hope this helps...

    Kind regards

    ======================================
    The dialog box asking if you want to "replace the existing image.
    occurs when the target folder contains a file with the same
    name that you are moving.

    Unfortunately... when a file is overwritten (replaced) with another
    file of the same name... the original is unrecoverable.

    There is a slight possibility... If the photos had been altered in
    Windows Live Photo Gallery... the unreleased original versions which
    could be cancelled in may still be in the following folder:

    C:\Users\\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows Gallery\Original photos.

    Good luck...

    transfer of data from one server to another server... How is possible?

    We used to transfer data of one cube to another using... report script... then load rule... so can we use even for that?
    but

    I would like to know any other comments and other means (like to explore)

    If you move the range of data to load into the different cube, then you can use report script or calc extrcat data and can use the rule files to load the data.
    If you move the data to load into a cube replicated in another environment, you can take the lev0 data and can do the free form of loading.

    You need a direct privilege to create objects to work through the procedures or plsql.
