  • Error when you try to open Device Manager in Windows 7 Professional.

When I try to open Device Manager or the computer management window, I get an error message similar to the following:

MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc.

It is perhaps because the file does not exist, is not the MMC, or was created by a later version of MMC. Perhaps it is also because you don't have sufficient access to the file.

File c:/windows/system32/devmgmt.msc has the tool box is red (which I think its usually grey (normal))

    Hi GodzillaSurfer,

Try these steps and check if it solves the problem:

    1. Click Start , type cmd, right click and select run as administrator.

    2. at the command prompt, type regsvr32 msxml3.dll , and then press ENTER.

In addition, if the step above does not resolve the problem, you can run a scan of auditor of file system (CFS) on your computer. SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

  • Error when you try to open a video or audio file using Windows Media Player-operation abandoned

WINDOWS MEDIA NOT OPEN FOR ME!

I recently bought a new jvc hd everio hd camera, I put the videos I recorded there from the other day that the files were .mts and he says, replace these files with .avi and it will play so I played 1 and he played really agitated then WMP just stopped working and I got the error

    C:/folder...  Abandoned operation!

Continues to appear when I try to open any type of video or audio file now, I want to uninstall and reinstall the wmp player, but I need to know is there a way to fix this to play as it was before, I went on the net tryin to google it and search for it but im leaves loop holes saying changing the programs by default and other things but nothing worked , I need to find the right way to get this working... help me...

    Hi DragLee,

Windows Media Player is the default or integrated drive in Windows Vista. It can't be uninstalled or reinstalled. However, if a system file is missing or damaged, we can run sfc (System File Checker) scan to find and fix system files corrupted.

Try these steps and check the result.
Step 1: Scan of the sfc
    1. open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
    2. type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow
3 restart the computer once the analysis is complete.
    4. check if the problem persists.

    For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Step 2: If the problem persists, perform the system restore to a date where the media player was working fine
    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.
    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.
    4. click on finish.

    I hope this helps.

  • Error when you try to open a Windows Movie Maker. MSWMM file: cannot be opened because it is not a valid windows movie maker project file

Help! Says the file can't be flat, .mswmm file, but the program made the film.

I used the Windows to make a film, I scanned 458 pictures, done my book of stories, etc. with music - took a month... I "published" and now when I go to open it it says ' cannot be opened because it is not a valid windows movie maker project file? But the Director did, now I can't open it to all, it has an .mswmm file extension! Help, it's a gift for my dad who is going to be 70 and I have not yet a month to make it again!

Hi, I'm having a similar problem but have 1 idea as to why I can't open my .mswmm file. I have two xp machines running sp3, but a pro and a home edition if it matters.

the file.mswmm I am trying to open was created on the moviemaker version 2.1.4028.0 and it still works fine on this machine. On the xp pro machine, he is Director of windows 2.1.4026.0.

So I try to install the movie maker 28 to my other machine I have a lot of files created with the 28 I want to be able to change on the other computer.

    =============================================
The project .mswmm file is best to use the system that created
because it takes all the source files... Video clips, Photos, music
files... always be available at the original location.

Moving from one computer to another can work if you move as best
all of the source files. When you open the .mswmm file you will see
Xs red instead of thumbnails of the source but if you right click the red Xs
You should be able to navigate to the new location of the files sources and re-
    establish the path.
