  I had this same problem with a 8570 executed on an advanced docking station p. I have updated my drivers audio, makeshift with settings, etc.. If I plugged my headphones into the audio output jack on the docking station (where my speakers are normally plugged), the sound was very good. But since the headphone jack, I got the same intestine dialogue, n-bass muffled and vocal-type problems you had. When I tried to configure the device audio speakers/HP on the plug headset, I was not getting stereo sound.

  Problem resolved - after call to Sony technical support - re-run auto-calibration and it showed the center speaker connection was bad. I guess that TV DVDs are recorded in stereo (tracks so vocal still audible) but the movies are 5.1 and song come through from the center speaker.

  First of all its amazing how disorganized the settings are in the sound properties in Windows.  You should check about 5 different places. His absurd and shows a total lack of design standards.  End of the rant from Microsoft... :))

But there are several different formats (PCM, DSP, GSM, Microsoft ADPCM, IMA ADPCM, CCITT with several different settings for each.  Of course, Microsoft provides no info as to the quality or the benefits of each.  Fabulous.  I recorded a few seconds with the default value which I think is PCM 8000 khz, 8-bit, 7 kb per second and the clarity was very good.  But only a few seconds have 3.8 MB!  I then changed to DSP 8000 khz, 1 bit to 1 KB per second and saved a few seconds which took only 15 KB.  It was informative.  The clarity of the second was a bit muffled but easily readable.  I want to become is a little less smothered with a size of about 1 MB per minute 1.  This would be a good compromise.

  I'm having a hard time to save a frame as it will appear the settings go back to default, straight after the initial recording or closing Sound Recorder - could someone confirm that?  If all goes well, there is a way to get them to stick.  Otherwise its another Microsoft product for the trash.   2. have you checked the problem on another computer?

  Step 1: Connect the device to another computer, and look for the question.

  Step 2: Log the following Web site and check if you have the latest version of the software installed for the device.

  Step 3: Update the latest audio drivers for your computer and see if the problem persists. Log on to the site of the computer manufacturer for the same thing.

• XPS, a Microphone 27 catches almost no sound

  I had the XPS one 27 for about 4 months and the microphone has never worked.

  I tried to use the registration system through multiple applications and voice Skype conversations. No luck.  The saved files are of very poor quality (noise muffled, barely audible) and no partner of Skype (I tried with several people) were able to hear me other that a thud, inconsistent.

  It is imperative that my system has a microphone that works as I use it to record a qualitative research and hold business meetings.  This is the third question, I had with this machine (the first was a faulty PSU and the second is a squeaky/wobbly computer stand) and is not what I expect from a $2000.00 machine.

  You can uninstall and update audio drivers by following the steps below:

  • Press Windows + X keyboard
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Click uninstall a program or programs and features
  • Uninstall the sound driver and restart the system
  • After the reboot, you can update the audio driver here
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and restart the computer when prompted

  If the problem persists, you can follow the steps below to enable the MIC boost:

  • Make sure that you are on the desktop screen. If you are on the start with tiles page, you can click tiles of Office to access the desktop mode.
  • Right click on the speaker icon to the lower right side of the taskbar in the notification area

  

  • Click on "recording devices".
  • A Sound windows appear on the screen a list of the recording devices

  

  • Make a right-click on the internal microphone (that you have posted in the screenshot)-> choose'Properties' -> make sure that the Microphone is set to 100 and see if the problem still occurs.

  

  • You can adjust the Microphone Boost to 10.0dB or 20.0dB and check if the record is better.

  I got my Dell XPS 1645 for about 4-5 years so maybe it's just a problem of wear.

  I am running Chrome and watch a stream on twitch.tv August 23 to about 75% volume level when there was a sharp fall in terms of audio quality; now everything seems thin / no bass/distortion plus silent.

  Audio performance was great before this event and always beautiful with headphones (this is the internal speakers which are reached).

  To clarify, the sound is muffled or spindly; It is not a noise or interference and the volume settings have not been changed as to cause this effect to my knowledge.

  I tried all the solutions I could find but I would like to know if there is something I don't understand!

  I uninstalled the IDT drivers and reinstalled from the dell site and other sites, I tried to use the default Microsoft drivers.

  I ran the Diagnostics Dell PC Checkup trials; speakers pass.

  I've disabled the improvements and messed around with properties of speaker without result.

  Speakers can still go to 100% flight (of course, this sounds horrible). Also, I have never historically played audio at levels like that nor I had problems with the audio in the past.

  I blew my speakers? Is there a loose connection? More important is there anything I can try or do? I prefer not having to pay massive amounts of replacements because it will mean probably deserting me a ship from Dell for good and get a nice update!
