  1. click on start.
  2. tap 'search' in the start search box.
  3. click on "change search options for files and folders.
  4. now, click the view tab.
  5 in the notice.
  (a) select the radio button show the hidden files, folders and drives
  (b) remove the checkmark from the checkbox Hide extensions of known file types.
  (c) remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  6. click on apply and Ok.

  For the past 2 years my laptop works fine with the same hardware configuration. It stops working suddenly MS websites. I did not have all the hardware changes.

  I had to replace my HARD drive in my computer. I installed my Windows XP Home SP2 disc. After installation, I used my SP3 upgrade drive and my drive to upgrade to IE8.
