  I did not burn any CD or DVD on my desktop in a few months. Now when I try, my program writing, Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.0, do note "no drive detected".  Cleary Device Manager shows the two CD/RW (I have two installed) present and activated without obvious problems.  I reinstalled Roxio nothing helps, uninstalled both drives and started and not reinstalled - no help. Fix - it for MS recognizes readers while noting that BOTH are not capable of writng and install a writing program - which is already installed.

  Any suggestions?  I am running WXP Professional Service Pack 3

  2 did you recent hardware or software changes to your computer before this problem?

  Step 1: Check if you are able to use the same disk on another computer and send back the same.

  My DVD player has been working flawlessly for over 2 years and all of a sudden, without apparent reason, is no longer read or burn DVD - video or data discs. After inserting a disk (blank or recorded) I get a message 'no disc' about a minute later.

  This DVD Player PEUT read and write any CD - R disc, without difficulty, the problem occurs only with DVD + R discs.

  My second drive, only a DVD-ROM works fine. And nothing out of the ordinary, as far as I know, on the properties of disk in the control panel.

  Any help would be appreciated.

  If I understand well you are unable to read CDs\DVDs on your windows vista computer, and you have already tried to remove the upper and lower filter to correct this problem, correct if I understood you.

  I would like to clarify some things to refine the question

  (a) this happens with all CD and DVD or just the Office CD?

  (b) don't you recall making any changes to the computer before this happened?

  (c) what happens when you try to remove the filters? You get the error message?

  When a device is not functioning, Device Manager also typically displays an error message with an error code that comes with it. First, search for errors in the Manager of devices to do this, follow the steps below:

  Step 1: Search for any displayed error message

  1. open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.

  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  2. in Device Manager, look for the ligthscribe ROM drives, and then double-click the device name.

  3. If an error code has been generated, the code appears in the status area of the device under the general tab

• Solutions to the problem of CD/DVD drive cannot read DVD discs

  This article will tell you 3 ways to solve the problem of the CD/DVD drive do not read the DVD disc. Please the process step by step.

  Solution1. Clean the DVD disc

  If your Player cannot detect the DVD disc, the first thing you need to do is to clean the DVD disc. Use a soft and dry cloth (not painted) to wipe the disc from the center of the disc to the edge. Please take care to not to use a paper to clean the disc with a circular motion, it will scratch the disc.

  After cleaning, inert the DVD on the drive to see if it works, if the reader can't read the disc, use a cloth of cotton wet with water or alcohol to clean the disc. After the disc dry, inert re the disc on the drive. If the reader can read, the operation is complete. If this isn't the case, please turn to the option2.

  Option2. Check the disc to see if it has been damaged

  Draw the DVD from the drive and check if there are some scratches or small cracks on the disc. If the disc is damaged, please try another DVD disc to see if the drive can read. If the drive cannot recognize the new disk, there could be a problem with the CD/DVD drive. Please turn to solution 3.

  Solution3. Clean or repair the CD/DVD drive

  When a CD/DVD drive has been used for a long time, its ability to play disc will only get worse. Then, the reader can not read some discs, or blocking your computer in the middle of the reading disc. This is usually due to the aging of certain parts of the disc, CD/DVD player dirty.

  Open the drive to check if the DVD reader accumulates dust and dirt, if so, the cold air from the hair dryer allows you to clean the inside of the DVD drive. Be sure to not blow on the optical sensor orally, or clean it with a cloth of cotton with water or alcohol. After cleaning, insert a DVD disc on the drive to see if it works.   It can be heard at work (or maybe working), but it cannot read the discs - music films or niether. The 'properties', says the disk is full, but can not read the contents. Neither is it give details of the content.

  I had this problem, whenever I insert a DVD, or even a CD containing data stored, my laptop will not be able to access these files.
  When I go to my computer, there will be an icon to recognize the CD or the DVD, I sometimes get a message saying that the file extensions is not overprint and I have to change it.

  Funniest yet, when I try to insert a DVD-ROM, it recognizes the DVD as a VIRGIN drive; an icon appears in my computer that would suggest that the DVD CD is actually a blank disc. Simply, I can't run any DVD or CD any data.

  I have the latest drivers, I run Vista 32 bit and am distraught as the cause of my problems.

  I'm not quite sure, what could be the reason of this strange WEIRD question but let's m hope this could be solved by changing some registry entries.

  First of all, please go to the Device Manager and remove the drive from the list of devices CD/DVD.

  Then, start the registry editor and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

  Then restart the laptop and check if the CD/DVD drive would work after a new reorganization of the driver and installation.

  The reader combo CD-RW/DVD on my Satellite Pro A40 (14 months) stopped reading DVDs (DVD - R or the video, have not tried other types), although it can play DVDs some time. I've cleaned the disc by using a cleaning disc. I think the problem started when I upgraded the OS to WinXP SP1 to SP2, but not sure. I tried CD - R and CD - RW writing and no errors were reported, but the CD that result are unusable (can't be read in the drive, with the LED blinks a few times and then to infinity).

  Someone has an idea how solve this ptoblem? Thank you

  Hi Richard,

  I suggest that you go the Device Manager on your laptop and then remove your devive DVD-ROM in the list. When you have done this and then select the option "Find new hardware" and allow Windows XP Reinstall the device and associate the appropriate driver.
