My CD/DVD drive stopped working... it is not recognized on my computer... I can't open the compartment either by ejection or manually

I have a laptop HP... I rarely use the DVD player... someone suggested the BIOS to default and disable the VRAM... Who has sense and how I would do? I tried Microsoft Fixit, but it does not work... I uninstalled the PCI controller. er in the management of devices and Rebooted, without success. It's as if my drive just disappeared.

Thanks for any help in advance

Hello

To manually open the drive:

For the reader does not:

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
the parameters.

  • CD/DVD drive has stopped working and now not recognized in 'My Computer'

I have a HP Pavilion computer to office model a6109n, product number GG038AA, S/N CNH7250K0M. I've been running Windows 7 for 2 years. My CD player recently stopped working. I can't attribute this failure to any specific event that would have led to it.  When a CD is inserted, the green light comes on for about 6 seconds then turns off. The CD player is not long represented on the 'My Computer' to readers list. The CD drive appears in Device Manager. I tried to roload the driver for CD drive, Windows gave a message stating that the best driver is already installed. I have no error message and ran three programs different viruses with no problems. I've also updated Windows available current configuration that has not solved the problem. Thinking it was a hardware problem, I checked the CD drive cable connections and that did not help.  I replaced the CD drive with a new drive for HP and had the same symptoms. I returned the new CD player and he traded for an external CD drive and had the same symptoms in all USB ports. I tried every USB port with a flash player and the flash player saved on my computer in all USB ports. If my CD drive is being recognized by the Device Manager but not in my computer. It's okay if it's an internal or external drive. Everything else on the computer works fine. More troubleshooting ideas?  Thank you.

    Hello

First, try the automated Microsoft fixit at the link below.

    Windows 7

Check if the drive works now.

If it still does not work, click on the Menu start, open the all programs, open accessories, right-click on command prompt and select "run as Administrator".  In at the prompt, type the following command and press ENTER.

sfc/scannow                (Note that there is a space between sfc and /)

Let the entire process, then the output type and press ENTER.

Then, click on the Start Menu, open Control Panel and click Device Manager.  Click to open the CD/DVD-ROM drives.  Right-click on the drive and choose uninstall.  Do not delete if requested drivers.  When the device has been uninstalled click the icon 'Search for hardware changes' (usually just below help in the toolbar).  Let windows reinstall the disc and see if it works now.

  • CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows

Original title: another question about the DVD drive is not detected in Windows 7

I have the same problem that many others have described here on the DVDR drive not detected after installing Windows 7. I still have not solved this issue. But I have another similar problem. The system will not recognize an external USB DVDR drive connected to a USB port. In essence, I have no access to the internal drive (in a Dell Inspiron 1545) or the external hard drive. Without access to a DVD player I can't even uninstall Windows 7, and I can not install or save anything else without a drive. I'm at my wits end. If anyone can help I will shower you with praise.

1 try to connect the DVD USB drive on another computer and check if the problem persists.
    2. try to connect other USB devices to the computer and check if it is detected.

Try to run the troubleshooter and see if the problem is resolved.

  • 750 GB Seagate replacement drive not recognized in my computer, but show up in the BIOS

I'm sorry if I break label of forum, but I was afraid that my previous ad in the "Resolved" issue Seagate can be neglected...

The Seagate firmware problem would explain why my replacement HP 750Go drive, happened today to replace my crashed, is not recognized by my computer?

A bit of history: after 2 months of operation, my new HP Pavilion a6750f desktop PC crashed, with the 750 GB drive omitting all Smart tests. While replacement is put in the mail, I bought a 1.5 GB Seagate and used to get on yesterday's recovery software. Today, Seagate 750 disk arrived, so I installed as a storage drive (to make backups to avoid another disaster). The BIOS reports as the 3rd disc, ST3750630AS and SMART spent testing.  But it does not appear on my computer (so that I can format it, if necessary.)  When I installed Nero Backitup 4, you can also see the drive, but there are no partitions.

    Issues related to the:

    1. How to format or get this drive recoginized?
    2. Can I install this download of the firmware on my 1.5 GB Seagate, my 1.0 GB of Seagate (another storage drive) and the 750 GB Seagate? If Yes, when I reboot, can I select which drives to apply to?

    Thank you!

It does not appear there, either.  As soon as Vista SP1 download is finished, I'll check the connectors. However, as it appear in the BIOS and in Nero Backitup, but not in my computer or disk management, it looks like a different problem...
