Hello

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most of the modules.

(If you use it, switch to the default theme).

  • Under Windows, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
  • On Mac, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key option key when starting Firefox.
  • Under Linux, you can open Firefox 4.0 + with leaving Firefox then go to your Terminal and running Safe Mode: firefox-safe-mode (you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the restart with the disabled... modules menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, simply select "" boot mode safe. "

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. To do this, please follow article Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems .

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. It might help others who have the same problem.

Thank you.

  • Search engine box change also affects the default search engine in the URL bar

    I've just updated to 23.0, and for some reason, change the search engine in the search box also changes the default search engine in the URL bar as well. I don't know if it's intended functionality (I hope that's not), but it is a bit irritating. I didn't know if it was related to an add-on that I installed it at the same time, so I tried to turn that off, but the problem was still there. so I tentatively guess it has to do with 23.0.

  • How can I change the default search engine in firefox 14?

    I tried to change my default search engine, does not. A read a lot of the help file, but it seems that none of the recommendations had jobs. The problem is in the search box in the upper right where the default from now (the search engine when I open firefox for the first time) is Yahoo. I had tried to change it to goggle by clicking on the drop down arrow and select a new search engine, but does not take effect. Yahoo is still in effect so that the search engine despite this change. I also followed the advice of some to change the default engine by typing "subject: config" in the address bar and some values but still after the opening and closing firefox again, Yahoo is still the default search and could be that the change by selecting from the drop-down search menu.

    Thank you for your answer but I managed to fix the problem already. What I did is to select from the dropdown to Ask.com (it seems that it is the only option that work) a window appeared asking me what a search engine change was made, and if I would use Ask.com to be the search engine or to maintain using Yahoo.com. I chose to use Ask.com and disable the protection on the search engine. Toke effect change and after that I could change from the drop down list a search engine like Google. I put a note above in parenthesis closed, that it seems Ask.com works as I tried before to change the search engine Google, but no window came to ask me if I want to change the default search engine.

    Once again thanks a lot to you two, for the reply and for your precious time to try to solve this problem.

  • Cannot change my Yahoo to Google search engine.

    Hi all.

    I have a Macbook Air, mid-2013, running OS X 10.11 (el capitan). Whenever I'm meeting in (9.0.3) Safari preferences to change the default search engine, the browser never made the change from Yahoo to Google. • Reinstall or change the setting of broken search engines

    The Creative Commons Beta search engine addon seems to be broken for me in Firefox, taking me to a 404 every time page. If I try to reinstall it on the Creative Commons site I get a pop-up message: "Firefox could not install the plugin 'http://search.creativecommons.org/ccsearch.xml' research because an engine with the same name already exists."

    Is there a way to remove this plugin so that I can try to reinstall? It is not listed under Tools > Addons. Help pages for Firefox only tell me how to hide the search engines, not how to delete really.

    I use Firefox on Windows 7 34.0.5, all seems up-to-date.

    Hello TimTylor, with CLOSED firefox, look a the Searchplugin .xml file in the searchplugins folder inside the Firefox profile folder and delete it manually.

    ( Default search engines all the plugins are in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder or the Firefox installation directory, but all custom plugins search engines exist inside the firefox profile folder :-)))

  • How to change Mozilla.cfg to set google as default search engine

    Need help with our setting mozilla.cfg file to change the default to yahoo search engine to google.
    Browser.search.defaultenginename in comments: config already has the default value of 'google', so doesn't justing adding this line of modzilla.cfg - ' pref ("browser.search.defaultenginename", "google", as its currently by default.)

    I noticed that if I manually change the search provider (thru the interface), then this value changes from 'default' to 'user set', which retains google as the default search engine. So how do I either set this value as 'user set' within mozilla.cfg, or use some alternative?

    You can restore the change in Google Yahoo search engine in the Firefox 34.0.5 by enabling / disabling browser.search.isUS to false.
    Note that only 34.0.5 replaces the default search by Yahoo! engine.

    //
    lockPref("browser.search.isUS", false);

  • How can I change the default search engine in the address bar?

    Beta toolbar AVG changed the search engine used when I type in the address bar of Yahoo search. I uninstalled AVG completely toolbar beta, but I can't seem to find out how to change the search back to Google search engine.

    Skip this step if you also have a Yahoo toolbar
    Remove the Yahoo toolbar

    1. 'Ctrl + Shift + A' (add-on Manager)
    2. Select the piece of the Puzzle on the left side for list Extensions
    3. Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click the "Uninstall" button and restart Firefox. (if you really need to keep the Yahoo toolbar, you can hide the toolbar instead with personal and always not to change all default search settings below)

    Then to set the default search engine used in the address bar, change the value of the keyword. URL in Subject: config to one of the values in the search of the address bar with MozillaZine.

    1. type about: config in the location (in a new tab) toolbar
    2. If the nonsense of warning message appears uncheck the box before dismiss the dialog box message
    3. filter by keyword
    4. Right click on the key word . URL and choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
    5. filter on defaulturl
    6. Right-click on browser.search.defaulturl (if it exists)and again choose "Edit" and then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
    7. filter on ytff
    8. Right-click on yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src (if it exists) and again once choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice, so adventurous maybe see if 'reset' would delete and see if went into the session next (at least not for those keeping the extension).

    Avoid problems: Several software installations contain additional baggage called crapware. The Yahoo toolbar is packed with Java photo

    @cor-el: this would probably work if you want to restore the default value.

    I have changed my encrypted google search engine on "subject: House" with these steps:

    1. download sqlite browser.
    (I used this: website (sqlitebrowser.sourceforge.net) / victory of direct download)

    2 extract the zip file

    3. run ' SQLite Database Browser 2.0 b1.

    4. open the "chromeappsstore.sqlite" file in your profile folder

    5. click the Browse data tab and double-click the value in the first row. (see screenshot below)

    6. Insert the desired value.

    As you will see the values in the example below, you can use any search you want and you can insert a "_searchTerms_" instead of the term research.
    I have these values:

    • Standart (google):

    {'name': 'Google', "searchUrl" ': "_ http://www.google.com/search?q=_searchTerms & ie = utf - 8 & oe = utf-8 & aq = t & rls = org.mozilla: en - org.mozilla & client = firefox-a" "}

    • Encrypted Google:

    {'name': 'Google', "searchUrl" ': "https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=_searchTerms _" "}

    • Yahoo:

    {'name': 'Yahoo', "searchUrl" ': "http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=_searchTerms _" "}

    • Bing:

    {'name': 'Yahoo', "searchUrl" ': "http://www.bing.com/search?q=_searchTerms _" "}

  • Leap browser blackBerry search engines

    I was right through the help, but I can't find how to change the default search engine in the browser. I would prefer to use google.co.uk rather than bing.com

    Usually, when I start to type in the browser, looking for a site, etc., in the upper right of the screen, you will get a small icon where you can see the available search engines. Click the icon and it will give you the choices available. I have Google, Yahoo and Bing. If I click on Google, it automatically becomes the default search engine. If you want your browser to open automatically in Google UK, then you will need to go to the Google/site page, select Google read your geographical location, to the United Kingdom, and then set Google as homepage.

    I don't know if that makes a difference or help. Let me know.

  • search options disappeared after updating firefox to address the slowness. How to make a comeback (there is no default search engine and no option)?

    the search box (with a magnifying glass to the left of it) is completely insensitive and there is no search option in the options of the menus/screens. Assistance from the address field in the search bar appears only intermittently to perform an Internet search for key words. a solution would be greatly appreciated.

    You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

    If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

    Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.

    You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

    Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
