My computer keeps overwriting when moving files to different hard drives.
HP tells me that Windows 7 has this problem that they can't transfer large files. Any suggestions
Some of your files may be damaged, so Windows can have trouble with copy them. You can run Windows disk check tool to be sure that none of your files are not corrupt. To do this, follow these steps: open Windows Explorer > right click on the Local drive > properties > tools > Check disk... > follow the rest of the process.
...
What size are these files you are trying to transfer? If the problem is really related to the size, try using another file manager, for example: Total Commander

Computer "not responding" when I connect the external hard drive.
Hi all
When I connect my external hard drive to my laptop, it is detected and the icon for the material appears in the taskbar background. But when I go to my computer, it happens that does not. I can always open other programs etc that are not related to the hard drive, but nothing to do with the hard drive "fails". As soon as I plug it on, the laptop starts responding again. I tried it on another laptop and the same thing happens.
Any ideas?
Hi Wendall81,
-How long have you had this problem?
Follow the steps below:
Method 1:
Step 1: Boot in safe mode and check if the problem persists.
See Advanced startup options (including safe mode) for more information about starting in safe mode.
Step 2: If the problem does not occur in safe mode, you can put your system to boot (in normal mode) to solve the problem.
See How to solve a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.
Method 2:
Run a check disk on the external hard drive.
For instructions, see check your drive for errors .
Note: If any bad sectors are found by running the check disk utility and recovery of the attempt of bad sectors option is checked when checking the disk for errors, data in the bad sector can be lost as they tried to recover bad sectors. Gokul - Microsoft Support

Moved files on external hard drive cannot find my changes in lightroom
I use Lightroom 4 on a Mac.
I moved recently all my photos on an external hard drive, and nothing I've read yet could help move my images edited in Lightroom. In lightroom, beside the heading folder I clicked on the + and added my external drive - it shows it's Green and alive.
All the pictures I had initially recorded on my Mac hard drive are now showing on external drive - good.
In lightroom, the subfolders in my Mac hard drive are now show with question marks that files are missing - who they are, because they are now on my external hard drive.
What is my problem, all the editing I did on these photos in lightroom before is now gone. How do the editing work I had done on these photos to appear on the external hard disk images? If I look at my pictures on the hard drive of the Mac, they show they have faded and disappeared, but it shows all my changes again on the photos. External hard disk, it shows the original version of the image with no changes made.
Note: I backed up my computer before moved me all my photos, so if I need to put them on hard drive on my mac, I am able to do.
Update
I have solved my problem. If someone comes across the question I was trying hard, I suggest to try move the files from WITHIN lightroom.
Initially, I had used my OS to move my files to image on an external hard drive, by simply drag and drop. Lightroom was not able to keep the editing I did on these pictures after that that they were moved. I restored a backup on my Mac and place the files in their original location. Then within the lightroom program, I was able to move the folders from photo (with modifications) on my external hard drive.

Macintosh HD disappeared from records while moving files on external hard drive
Just as the title says. I moved files in LR this morning of an external HD (created the new folder, drag / drop individual files to new folder HD) and after adding a large folder of photos (about 1/6 of my size of the entire catalog), the task is completed and my main Macintosh HD folder disappeared. The files are still on display in large "all photographs" under catalog at the top and the files are still on my computer.
Someone knows how to get Macintosh HD to reappear under folders, so I can move the remaining files of the photo the external HD? I would rather not move them outside of Lightroom.
Thank you!
I've seen two similar situations like this in the last week or two, someone solved the problem simply by rebooting the computer.

Moving files to a HARD drive SSD.
When you attempt to move files to create a space on the SSD, file access is denied, I need approval to a trusted Installer. How can I get this "permission"?
You can right-click on the folder and choose Properties, go to security options and give you permission.
However, you should be warned: the message that you receive means that the file should not be moved. When you move, your security updates and system will fail, and you can cause your operating system to no longer boot. Make sure you have a backup of the system entirely and a copy of all your activation codes that you might need if you need to recover from what you are about to do.

I recently did a factory reset on my computer and saved all my files on a flash drive when I load them onto my computer, they look all as internet files explore instead of dreamweaver files, please, help?
They probably had the IE icon because Windows automatically associate with IE html files.
It is of no consequence for your work in Dreamweaver, but you can change this association if you wish.
Go to control panel > default of programs > set Associations.

RAW files missing changes after moving to an external hard drive
Hi, I use lightroom 4 and I cleaned a part of my images on my laptop and then exported in JPEG files. My hard drive has started to fill up, so I moved all my files on raw on an external hard drive but now when I come back to make adjustments to these images it tells me that the file is missing. How the raw return file so that it shows the changes I made?
The changes should have been stored in the catalog file or in an XMP Sidecar file. Also moved the XMP Sidecar files. These XMP files can be marked as system files in OS X, and unless you have show system files (which, with OS X for that option and turn it you may need to use Terminal), and or display all files, Finder can hide on your part.

path is too deep message when copying files to the hard disk to usb thumb drive
am runnjing Windows professional xp and have recently begun to meet with messages saying 'Filename' path is too deep, trying to move files from my hard drive to a USB key. I realize there is a limit on the length of path, I think that 250 characters, but I'm no where near this limit. Move files with long length of path names and file with length of shortest path names are not.
It seems that less than 100K spreadsheets okay and spreadsheets more than 100K are not. I think my problem was with Open Office but I also struggle with the larger PDF files.
If I one of these "problem files", open ones I can't move or copy and try to save them on my drive of thimb, the system hangs for several minutes and sometimes tells me that I started recording order with an invalid character.
I see others have problems similar encounteres on several internet forums. Is the cause of this known? Is there a fix I can install to remove the problem?
Try RichCopy.
