When I close the lid on my computer & open it again, the computer does not wake up, it shows just a black screen!

Hi George,.

From the description of the problem, it seems that the computer would not wake from sleep when you close the lid and open it again. I understand the inconvenience.

Let us, try to perform the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run the troubleshooter of power

  • Laptop Dell Studio 1555 w / Vista does not wake from sleep when the lid is open.

I have a laptop Dell Studio 1555 with Vista Premium 64-bit. Until last night, the laptop would run mode standby when I closed the lid and woke up when I opened the cover later. Yesterday I was downloading photos from a Canon camera via USB. I close the lid when I did. When I went to open the cover later the laptop screen remained in black and white. The power button is lit, but the only way I can get to meet is to hold the power button until it turns off completely, and then restart the laptop. A difference when the lid is closed, I think the power button will blink and turn off slowly while he was really in sleep. He remains on all the time now when the lid is closed. I tried to go into power management and put the laptop from sliding when the lid is closed, but has not made a difference.

  • Computer does not wake from sleep sometimes

When my computer goes to sleep sometimes it won't wake up.  It seems to happen when not used for long periods-2 or 3 hours.  In power settings, I sleep at 5: 00.  The screen turns off, but computer would stay as wanted.  When he did this time the screen would not come back.  Usually to move the mouse could get things.  I tried to hit the buttons on the mouse and the keyboard, nothing.  I had not turned monitor works, reads "no signal".

Sleep store the Windows operating system into RAM memory and depends in part on the power to keep what in memory to be corrupted.

If disabling sleep slows down your problem, then try

    Memtest86 +:

It runs from a floppy disk or CD and should eliminate or confirm if one or more of your memory

sticks are bad or the values of the SPD in the BIOS are correct.

Let it run for as long as you can: 2,4,6,8 or several hours (at least 3 full passes), if no errors at that time then your ram is OK.

You can create a new user account and check. If it works in a new user account, then probably your user account have been damaged and would need a fix.

    Create a user profile.

  • DELL Inspiron N5110 does not stop and does not wake from sleep

    Hello.

I have Dell Inspiron N5110, who cannot stop it in Windows 7 or Ubuntu Linux. Specifically, I started Ubuntu Live from CD to eliminate the possibility that the problem is in Windows 7. Stop in Ubuntu does not work either. This proves that the reason for not an application in Windows that remains suspended and does not allow the laptop to close.

The laptop computer may not wake after sleep or either Hibernate.

I tried all the solutions that advised you to all the other people in the forum who have the same problem.

    1. the laptop cannot stop mode safe either.

2 may not stop even after clean boot Mode - all services disabled and all package disabled Startups.

    3. I haven't tried to change the Power Options Advanced "Allow hybrid sleep" - both WE "On AC Power" and "Battery operated" - no change.

    4. I tried to install the latest NVIDIA video drivers. This did not help either.

5 running only on battery change nothing - not cannot always stop.

6 race only on AC adapter without battery - still cannot stop.

    7. I tried to remove the AC adapter and the battery, and now the POWER button for 30 seconds to RESET the phone - did not work.

ATTENTION: I have read your forums all day and has seen at least 10-15 reports on the same problem, and not a single case fixed.

    8. This is why I have not tried Flash the BIOS with the latest version - I have read other people who have tried and it didn't work either.

    9. I loaded the BIOS default settings (F9) - stop still can't.

NOTE: Change something in the BIOS and getting out once caused the laptop to freeze and I had to power off by holding button for a longer time.

    10. I ran DELL Diagnostics menu Boot (F12 at startup) - no error found.

    11. I couldn't find IEEE 1394 adapter in Device Manager to change the power management settings.

In fact, none of the suggestions that you can give to change something in Windows is logical because I already mentioned that stop in Ubuntu does not work or the other.

The question seems to be either in BIOS or a hardware problem. But which component? This is the CD/DVD drive?

    It is a new laptop.

Please advice how to proceed. If you know which component fails please tell me.

Remove the keyboard and palmrest (dell guide shows you how) and you should see a small button battery. Remove it at least 10 seconds, then put back. Enter the BIOS and make sure that there is nothing weird was changed. It should work fine now. I had this work in Ubuntu 12.04 these last days with no problems.

  • Switches to color when you restart the computer profile or wakes from sleep

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1470 with Windows 7 at home as a backup of my MacBook Pro.  I used the Spyder2Express to calibrate my screen that works well.  After that I restarted my PC the color profile has been enabled for a few short seconds, but then returned to the default setting, which is horribly blue and too bright.

I then removed the color profile created by my Spyder2Express and used Windows' built in the calibration of the monitor.  Yet once, it worked until I rebooted the computer, or he woke from sleep mode.

I then wen to the control panel-->--> the color management advanced and assured the new profile is the default value of the system.  The problem still remained after the computer is restarted.

The only solution I have found so far is if after I restarted my pc I go to Panel of--> of color management and select and clear the checkbox "use my settings for this device."  My profile will then return until I restart the next time.

As a pro photographer, it is a question that is extremely disappointing.  I searched forums, web, called Dell directly and none of this was of no help.  Any thoughts?

    Hi Mike,.

It seems that software Spyder2Express adds color profile after each reboot. We can check if really Spyder2Express is the origin of the problem

    Method 1:

Uninstall Spyder 2 express and check if the return of the issue after each reboot.

    Method 2:

Configure the computer to boot and then refine the boot entry that is causing the problem

Step 1: Perform a clean boot:

Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.
    a. log in the computer using an account with administrator rights.
    b. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.
    c. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
    d. under the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the check box load startup items. (The check box use the file Boot is not available.)
    e. on the Services tab, click to select the skin all the Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Note following this step lets Microsoft services continue to operate. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.
    f. click OK and then click on restart.

Step 2: Enable half the services

    a. click on the Services tab and then click to select the skin all the Microsoft services checkbox.
    b. Click to select half of the check boxes in the Service list.
    c. click OK and then click on restart.

    Solve the problem:
After you determine the startup item or the service that is causing the problem, contact the manufacturer of the program to determine if the problem can be solved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box of the element of the problem.

Reset the computer to start as usual:
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
    a. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

All the steps above to perform the clean boot is mentioned in the following article

    Hope this helps,
    A Mir.

  • Laptop will not go to sleep when the lid is closed

    Separated from this thread.

Same problem here. My settings say that my Toshiba will sleep when the lid is closed, but half the time is not asleep and I can feel it's hot and turns on the fan. I am so frustrated with this new laptop and Windows 8.1. Looks like too many bugs in the software or something. More I am working on the new laptop the more problems that I find, like screen discoloration as well. The forums are useless. I do what they say, and the problem is the same. Forget the call from Toshiba. Needless. Nobody will help unless you pay them money to subscribe. What customer service?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your concern here at the Microsoft Community forum. Let me help you with your concern.

This problem may occur because of any change in power on your laptop options. If the default is set to hibernation and standby modes, your laptop goes to sleep when you close the lid, but then the Hibernate timer comes in and wake up your computer first and trying to Hibernate. He cannot go to Hibernate directly from mode 'sleep'. Go into the power settings and either disable hibernation or set the timer on a higher value.

To apply the same setting to all plans:

    1. Open Power Options by pressing the Windows key + X, clicking Control Panel, click system and security, and then clicking Power Options.
    2. On the Select a power plan page, click choose the cover.
    3. On the page define power buttons and turn on password protection , next to when I close the lid, choose what you want your laptop to do, both when it is running on battery and when it's plugged in.
    4. Click on save changes.

Tip: To save battery power and quickly resume working, select sleep. Sleep is a power saving state that allows a computer quickly resume the operation of full power (usually in seconds) when you want to start working again.

To apply a setting to a specific regime:

    1. Open Power Options by pressing the Windows key + X, clicking Control Panel, click system and security, and then clicking Power Options.
    2. On the Select a power plan page, click change plan settings for the plan you want to change.
    3. On the change settings for the plan page, click change advanced power settings.
    4. Advanced settings tab, expand it cover and the Power button, action lid, choose what you want your mobile PC to do when you close the lid, for when it runs on battery and when it is plugged in, and then click OK.

I hope this helps. If you need help with Windows, let us know and will be happy to help you.

  • 7520 Photosmart printer - ink cartridges carriage out when the cover is opened

The transport does not automatically moves himself posted to the right of the machine when the lid is open.  I'm unable to change empty ink cartridges.  The machine was purchased new April 2013 and is out of warranty.  I turned off and turned it back over 15 min later, no change.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi @Clayball,

I see that you have problems with the transport not to move to the middle in order to change the cartridges.

    I would like to help.

I would like to do a hard reset to see if that will solve the problem.
Let the printer and disconnect the printer cable and the wall socket for 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable to the output of the printer and the wall, and not a surge protector.
This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation.

If the transport does not move freely when grasp the front, it's OK to gently push the carriage to the left or right to move along the rail.
Fragments of paper can get lodge between the cart and the gas station.  It is important to look at the far right of the printer with a flashlight to make sure there is no debris.

I handed a document with some measures to try to resolve the transport stall.

A Message appears 'Transport Jam' on the control panel.

  • Monitor intermittently do not wake from sleep mode

I have a new Pavilion 500 - 205t Windows 7 Desktop (two weeks).  Two days earlier, after the computer is in mode 'sleep', the computer would wake up, but the screen would not.  I contacted HP Support and they said not to put the computer in mode 'sleep', but to turn it off instead.  They said that the computer could accumulate a static charge which could prevent the monitor to wake up from sleep mode.  Their solution was to force a shutdown by pressing the power switch, unplug at the back of the Tower, by pressing the power switch for 20 seconds, plug everything back in and then turn on the computer.  The monitor worked correctly then wake up from sleep mode.  For the last two days, the computer would wake properly from sleep mode.  Today, the same thing happens again.  This time, I turned off the computer and then he turned back to (without unplugging everything) and the monitor worked correctly.

    Here's my question:

Is it really a static problem? (It has been cold and dry here for several weeks and static is high)  Or I have a hardware problem or software that needs to be fixed?  Thank you for your time.

I think I found the solution to this problem for my computer.  I changed the settings for sleep or sleep 'Hybrid' or 'Hibernate' is allowed.  Since then, I have not experienced the problem.  I also changed what does the power button, so that when I press the power button, the computer shuts down normally.  This prevents a "forced" shutdown if the problem happens again.

Thanks again Bill, for your time.  I mark this problem is resolved.

By pressing on a keyboard or screen sleep button apparently sends computer standby: the screen is black, white power button mouse and keyboard LED off, LED blinks once every two seconds.

However computer not wakes up on a key on the keyboard and pressing a button / a computer turns on, but does boot upward as if it were completely off.

Already checked for the latest version of the BIOS and enabled for keyboard and mouse power management.

    Hi Jaco,

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried to experiment with the settings of power for the keyboard and the mouse, and simply made sure that both are enabled to wake the computer from sleep mode. I began to suspect that he may be the controller USB keyboard to wake the computer asleep, and I've experimented with a PS/2 keyboard without result.

Then I reread in BIOS settings help mode "standby" should be indicated in triple LED flash, and I was getting only single blink of the LED, and I started to look into each option in Advanced settings of the power management and guess what I found?

    THE SOLUTION

When I turned the sleep > allow hybrid sleep set Off, "sleep mode" started working:

By pressing on the sleep button sends computer mode 'sleep', white LED travels triple flash and two seconds apart, and by pressing a key on the keyboard wakes the computer.
