My data hard drive is about to die, or it is related to a memory problem?

My windows 7 x 64 operational system joined as well as all my applications is installed in an ssd and there is a hard drive to store data. My system is as follows:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R

MEMORY: KINGSTON KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX DDR3 12GB (3X4GB) PC12800 1600 MHZ HYPERX GENESIS TRIPLE CHANNEL KIT

CPU: Intel Core i7 930 (s1366, 2.80 GHz)

PSU: Enermax MODU87 + 700W 80 + gold PSU EMG700AWT

HARD drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB HDD (64 MB of Cache, 7200 RPM, Sata III)

SATAIII SSD : SSD Samsung 840 PRO Series 265 GB (model MZ-7PD256)

I rarely have the problem which is depicted in the icons following (I speak for hard drive data storage):

No preview of the photo, but I can see a specific image when I double click on it

records are missing

After this problem, I went to check if the same thing was happening in the icons in the primary system ssd. Therefore, I went to start--> pictures--> sample photos and I could see a glimpse of the images.

I was also able to move through each folder I wanted in the ssd. Then I double clicked on 'computer' icon and the following happened.

I was able to close the window without any problem. I think that it is a hard drive problem, but could also be a memory problem. What is your opinion on that? Another weird thing that happens, is the loading time on a cold start the msconfig.exe file. Sometimes the file loads instantly and other times it takes several seconds (7-10) to load on the screen. If it is not a cold start, then the file always loads instantly. The same thing happens also with the Task Scheduler. It seems very strange to me. Please note that Superfetch, Prefetch, Defrag, Windows backup and indexing are disabled.

Finally, I found the solution to my problem. When I got a memory low message (12 GB of installed RAM memory) I couldn't believe my eyes.

I immediately opened the resource monitor, went to the memory tab and I just saw the dllhost.exe file has consume all memory. I thought that this file was infected and I checked both versions of them (x 64 & x 86) with virustotal, but it wasn't the issue. When I read that this file system is loaded to restore media files in thumbnail view in windows Explorer, I remembered that I had a defective mp4 file that could not be opened. I knew I had to do. I had to delete this file. The problem is that while you try to remove a defective media file, the dllhost.exe file tries to make it, so you are not able to delete until the end of dllhost.exe through process Explorer process.

Conclusion: When you see a media file that it is not rendered in the thumbnail, view then this file is probably defective and the dllhost.exe goes to an infinite loop, while he tries to make this file, until it consumes all your RAM memory!

How did you create this image?

    > I put the Western Digital drive HARD back in & run these discs. Disk1 ran right to the end, then put in disk2 wouldn't do anything, the drawer of the DVD would keep opening asking me to put in the disk.

It looks like the 2nd disc can be read correctly or the 2nd disc was not created correctly.

I first recommend you to clean the lens of the laser of the reader of CD/DVD alcohol or cotton tip.
Then try to run the installation by using the recovery disk once more.
In case this isn't possible, your recovery disk is defective.

If the recovery disk that is faulty, you have an option to order here:
    http://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

The 2nd option would be clean Microsoft Windows disk usage.
Missing drivers may be downloaded from the Toshiba UE driver page.

Other than using a hard drive in XP as a slave in a computer 64 bit Vista, how can I recover the files in the drive XP given that the motherboard of the computer broken XP?

    Hi, amymay5!

You can retrieve any information on the disk hard until you connect it to a mother's work. So, if you have a Vista computer, the option to connect as a slave is easier to achieve your goal.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

I'm new on some of this so please keep that in mind. I have Windows 7 Professional and I keep it updated. But the updates begin to gnaw hard disk space. When I am updating some of my software, a message appears indicating the former is eliminated and replaced by the new. But I would say that this is not the case with Windows. Can someone tell me how to remove old updates from my system to keep my c minimum disk space? Don't forget that I'm a bit of a newbe to this. Thank you

Open computer and right click on the C drive, select Properties.

On the Tools tab, click Disk Cleanup and it will scan the disk for a minute or two. Once finished, click clean system files and it will do so again.

This time, it will provide a list of the classes of the file to be deleted, including files archive update. You must be satisfied with the State of the system as a whole, because once you do that, you can't cancel an update.

  • Why the system takes so much hard drive space (about 110 GB)?

How can I reduce it. I can't imagine why it takes so much space. does anyone have an idea?

    System: T400, bussiness Vista 32

    Hi Halloechen_Wei,

Probably of rescue and recovery made a bunch of backups that are too much space. I don't remember exactly what we call the option, but if you start the Rescue and Recovery program, there's a way to 'recover space' or something like that. Essentially, you can remove some of the backups to recover the part of hard disk space.

    Good luck

  • Satellite C665D - the second time the same problem HARD drive.

I have a laptop C665D. Eight months after I buy, I had hard drive problem (reallocated sector count-> value about 2000!).
So I send to the service and got with the new hard drive.

And now, after 7 months, but I have the same problem, (down hard drive).

My question is why this happens two times, this same defect?
    Anyone had this same problem?
Is a problem with this series of laptops?
Can I do something to avoid damage to the next (third) disc?

    Thanks for any help.

    > So my question is why this happens two times, this same defect?

Any HARD drive is going to die sooner or later, the HARD drive is not reusable part.
Read and write data to the HARD disk would cause the head moving in many cases, the disk dies because of the head crash.
Moving the laptop while the disk is in use would affect the functionality of the HARD drive.

On my laptop I have a utility called installed HARD disk protection tool.
HDD Protection detects the vibrations, shocks and similar signs in the PC and the disk head moves automatically to a safe position to reduce the risk of damage that might be caused by the contact of the head-to-disk.

Advise to use such tool too

By the way: HARD drive problems have nothing to do with the series of laptop

According to Acronis Drive Monitor 1.0 (build 187), the hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite L300 bought 27 September 2009 has the following parameters of S.M.A.R.T:

Name / gross value of attribute / value / threshold / status
    (1) reallocated sectors / 6 / 100 / 50 / reviews
    (2) number of events of reallocation / 6 / 100 / 0 / WARNING

    In addition:
    (3) the computer displays the Blue error screen the "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD), twice this week, on which it restarts immediately.

I'd be worried of failure and impending hard disk crash? What can I do to solve 3 problems above?
Acronis Drive Monitor can help predict when a hard drive is about to fail, giving you the opportunity to back up your data before the disaster.

    Hello

I advise you to backup all important data if you do before there accident

You have the guarantee of 3 years for a hard drive, so they must replace it.

    > What can I do to solve 3 problems above?

Try a program called HDD Regenerator 1.61 (you can find the most recent version). It is very good program to repair bad sectors. A few weeks ago, there was the user that could solve many of bad sectors on the hard drive using it. However, as written above, you should always be ready for hard disk crash

  • Paragon/Ghost: Create a bootable clone between the (hard drives of different sizes to)

I was web-searching options of backup in the last days and want to settle on a solution of freeware Paragon or Ghost (I know that the latter meets the needs, but I wonder if the first can do with relative ease for a beginner). Here's the scenario:

My current Toshiba Satellite A660 (PSAW3C-047017 model) running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The HARD disk is the disk HARD MK6465GSX from Toshiba (http://storage.toshiba.eu/cms/en/hdd/multimedia/product_detail.jsp?productid=341). I bought a small (500GB) Seagate Momentus XT, which has apparently Advanced Format. I guess the Toshiba HDD 512 bytes/sector, because nothing comes up in a search on the web for Advanced Format for this HARD drive.

I would like the Momentus XT allows you to create a bootable to my Toshiba HDD clone. The Momentus XT will be in a pregnant that will interface to the portable computer via eSATA. After cloning for the Momentus XT, I would replace my Toshiba HDD in the laptop with the Momentus XT due to its superior performance. The Toshiba HDD becomes my HDD auxiliary (in the external case) for the cloning of the weekly. If nothing ever happens to the Momentus XT in the laptop, I can then take the Toshiba HDD out of the enclosure and put it in the laptop. However, this mode of use of the means I have to be able to clone initially Toshiba HDD Momentus XL, then clone in the other direction later.

I read a lot about needing to be trendy, but not having alignment issues do not image, cloned, or formatted a hard drive before (except obey blindly support), I'm foggy on the understanding. Seagate announced their SmartAlign technology, but there is no corroboration on its effectiveness and no info about HARD drive models have it. Because Windows 7 is described as supporting the AF, I guess that many of the issues identified by SmartAlign are nonissues to me.

My concern is that if there are other traps due to the corresponding HDD sizes and sectors that could create problems for the cloning process, both the Toshiba HDD for the Momentus XT and vice versa. Consequences (and solutions) I'm trawling for are the inability to create a clone bootable, the completeness and accessibility of the clone and align content makes this performance impact (with the exception of those to avoid due to the use of Windows 7).

A friend I know that Ghost will properly manage the HARD disk and differences in size of the sector gracefully, avoiding the above consequences. I was wondering if freeware Paragon will handle this scenario as well. Paragon is free, but apart from the functional qualities, I would also consider ease of use in order to take a decision on the two.

Thanks for any comment on the ability of Paragon freeware to manage this scenario, the comparison of usability of Paragon & Ghost for this scenario, and anything else you think is relevant in the choice between them for my scenario.

    Hello

    > Thanks for any comment on the ability of Paragon freeware to manage this scenario, the comparison of usability of Paragon & Ghost for this scenario, and anything else you think is relevant in the choice between them for my scenario.
In my opinion, this question should be forwarded to the Paragon supports.
    http://www.Paragon-Software.com/support/
Check the knowledge base or the forum of the community.

From my point of view, you must first create a Toshiba Recovery disk.
In this case, you are always secure you can set the laptop back to factory settings, even if the HARD drive was going to die or the system would begin to run crazy.

I have used Ghost in the past in order to back up my files. I created an image of my two partitions bootable file and this race smoothly unfortunately cannot say on Paragon or compare both applications.
