  I have a HP Pavilion computer to office model a6109n, product number GG038AA, S/N CNH7250K0M. I've been running Windows 7 for 2 years. My CD player recently stopped working. I can't attribute this failure to any specific event that would have led to it.  When a CD is inserted, the green light comes on for about 6 seconds then turns off. The CD player is not long represented on the 'My Computer' to readers list. The CD drive appears in Device Manager. I tried to roload the driver for CD drive, Windows gave a message stating that the best driver is already installed. I have no error message and ran three programs different viruses with no problems. I've also updated Windows available current configuration that has not solved the problem. Thinking it was a hardware problem, I checked the CD drive cable connections and that did not help.  I replaced the CD drive with a new drive for HP and had the same symptoms. I returned the new CD player and he traded for an external CD drive and had the same symptoms in all USB ports. I tried every USB port with a flash player and the flash player saved on my computer in all USB ports. If my CD drive is being recognized by the Device Manager but not in my computer. It's okay if it's an internal or external drive. Everything else on the computer works fine. More troubleshooting ideas?  Thank you.

  First, try the automated Microsoft fixit at the link below.

  Windows 7

  Check if the drive works now.

  If it still does not work, click on the Menu start, open the all programs, open accessories, right-click on command prompt and select "run as Administrator".  In at the prompt, type the following command and press ENTER.

  sfc/scannow                (Note that there is a space between sfc and /)

  Let the entire process, then the output type and press ENTER.

  Then, click on the Start Menu, open Control Panel and click Device Manager.  Click to open the CD/DVD-ROM drives.  Right-click on the drive and choose uninstall.  Do not delete if requested drivers.  When the device has been uninstalled click the icon 'Search for hardware changes' (usually just below help in the toolbar).  Let windows reinstall the disc and see if it works now.

  Hello ive been using this laptop for 2 years now and ive started suddenly get this error "amd driver has stopped working and has recovered" and sometimes one of the apps I open freezes and then I get BSOD with errror "AMD pilot State failure" any help would be appreciated.

  I would start by removing the current driver and installing the latest driver available.  (yours is 5 years old)

  Since Vista, the components of "Timeout detection and recovery" (TDR) of the subsystem video OS have been able to do some really impressive things to try to find issues that would have led to the earlier OS like XP to crash.

  As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends a video driver command "Please restart you now!" and wait a few seconds.
  If there is no answer, the BONE concludes that the combo of driver/hardware video has really collapsed in a heap, and it fires at this stop 0 x 116 BSOD.

  If playing with video driver versions did not help, make sure that the box is not overheated.
  Try to remove a side panel and a fan of big sector directly to the motherboard and GPU.
  Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to check whether the cooler temperatures make a difference.

  If so, it could be as simple as dust accumulation and inadequate cooling afterwards.

I have a laptop Compaq presario CQ61 64-bit Windows 7.  2 days ago the screen went suddenly "speckly" flickered then briefly became black. On forward "normal service resumed" but a message "display driver stopped working and got ' came then disappeared. I was watching BBCiplayer in time if this is useful. Since then, the problem has re occurred several times and I had to reboot a couple of times. I don't do any game at all, just browse some sites regularly then use Skype for an hour a day.  I thought everything was good today as the portable performed normally for a long time, then did it again!   An update conflict is possble.

  It is likely, too, that just reinstall the driver - if necessary update or just reinstall the current version - can solve this problem, if the software is at the origin of the problem.  Sometimes the drivers are dynamited by the updates and can be cured by be reinstalled after the fact.

• Windows Movie Maker has stopped working and will not save

  I used Movie Maker for some videos and they all worked without any problems. This one I edited without any problems, but when I go to save it I get an error message that says that "windows live movie maker has stopped working". My film is not as long, only four minutes, and it has music, a .wav file and text. My video files are AVCHD.  I tried to remove the text and music, but it does not export again.
