  Readers USB Flash RAM, CD drive USB, readers of CD - RW USB, USB DVD +-RW drives and DVD-ROM USB readers are all handled by Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium as "devices with removable storage".  To check this, look under the "Computer" entry in the menu 'start '.  However, if one uses as a USB external hard drive, that one is listed under 'hard drive '.  Programs noticed this, and some of them refuse to use it as a removable media drive, even if it is technically removable media, with its electronic and all.  It's kind of weird, because you can't remove the RAM on the USB Flash memory drives either.  Is there a way to get readers to external USB hard drive listed under "devices with removable storage"?

  USB hard drives do not seem material RMB (removable media bit) bit set.

  I tried to format my external drive scratch NTFS (it has been formatted in this way, but I have re-formatted to ensure that), and it always happens as "Local Disk".  Also, I put the "Optimize for quick removal" option on the parameters of the disk driver hard software.  Which doesn't change anything either.  It came even as "Local Disk".  Finally, I formatted the drive with the FAT32 file system (use some flash drives).  The drive still shows as "Local Disk".  In the tests described above, I still "withdrew safely" the disk first and then re-connected.

  Thanks for the help, I now know it is a bit material in the electronic control unit which controls special registration of the drive in the operating system.

  I downloaded the drivers needed from the Dell site and the burner will not work. The computer was again in March 2009. Not sure where the drivers should be located. I downloaded on: win\syswow64\drivers\afc.sys. I've looked everywhere and tried to find a dialog box offering the option "update drivers" for this device. Could not find a way to do except Dell and that doesn't seem to work. The 64-bit system has no 'Device Manager' that I can find.   Yes, you should try it but do not for get rid of the virus. The drive is bad, but you can try to recover the files you want to keep using this disc.

  The GUI will allow you to explore your hard drive and if there's still life in it, you may still be able to see and copy your files to a storage device portable usb.

  If the Kaspersky Rescue CD cannot access your hard disk, then all is lost.

  Things to consider... dv9000 models are plagued by questions of the motherboard and you can opt for a new PC, rather than fixing you.

  I do not work for HP, so I don't have to think that you buy a new laptop, but you have to consider the possibility of throwing good money after bad.

  If you decide to buy a new hard drive, you can get a 7 200 RPM one which has better performance on a disk of 5 400 rpm, but it shorten the time between charges of battery a bit.

  The message of PXE boot that you receive when you start your computer has nothing to do with your CD/DVD-Rom drive. Your computer uses a PXE boot method to attempt to load Windows from a location on your network. Since you do not have this configuration, it is safe to ignore it. If it slows down the startup time of your system, contact your manufacturer and ask them for instructions on how to "disable PXE Network Boot of the BIOS.

  Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
  correctly.

  Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.

  Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.

  CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the edge outside these discs
  tolerances. They may be delivered, but it is generally more economical to replace the disk.

  Try these steps and check.
   
  Step 1: Lower the burn speed and check.
   
  Step 2: Reinstall the driver of DVD player.
  a. click Start, click run, type sysdm.cpland then clickOK.
  b. in the hardware tab, click Device Manager.
  c. expand ligthscribe-ROM readers, right-click on the drive and choose uninstall.
  When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click OK.
  d. on the Action menu, click on Search the hardware changes.
   
  Step 3: If you have still the CD for your burning software, uninstall all the other DVD burning software on your computer and check. You can install their return after verification.

  There are many causes of Code 39 errors:

  ·         A required device driver is missing.

  ·         A required binary file is corrupted.

  ·         There is a problem with the file I/O process.

  ·         A driver that refers to an entry point in another binary file cannot load.

So now how to make a copy of the Vista startup disk so I can get the version original back on my computer? It's actually my husband and he uses it for his work if any help would be great. I went through the help files and I was told to call Acer. Acer has said that they do not have a boot disk for mine over because it's out of warranty. So now I have no disc and it never even came with one. So, what should I do to get Windows Vista back there? Please please help me. I'm trying so hard to get this information, but nobody seems to have all the answers. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you very much.
