My E: drive of my CD-ROM/DVD-Rom is missing in VISTA Home Premium
I tried the tool Microsoft Fixit, updated drivers, BIOS, Firmware update, remove applications Apple, etc. nothing worked. I want to try the registry fix from the manual below, but were so many restorations to my system that I have 3 ControlSets (see below):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet001
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet002
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
I tried the CurrentControlSet, but nothing did. How do I know which is the older version? Do I have to remove two and rename the older of CurrentControlSet and try to make the list of manual correction below?
In the navigation pane, find and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}- In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You can also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You don't have to delete this entry. Click UpperFilters . If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you may still have to delete the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
- On the Edit menu, click delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
- In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
Please advise, I worked on it for days to try anything. HELP someone.
Hello
BTW on the filter question (and the above proposed similar fixes) only works on what is proposed which
in this case is the CurrentControlSet and not others.
I hope this helps.

Readers USB Flash RAM, CD drive USB, readers of CD - RW USB, USB DVD +-RW drives and DVD-ROM USB readers are all handled by Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium as "devices with removable storage". To check this, look under the "Computer" entry in the menu 'start '. However, if one uses as a USB external hard drive, that one is listed under 'hard drive '. Programs noticed this, and some of them refuse to use it as a removable media drive, even if it is technically removable media, with its electronic and all. It's kind of weird, because you can't remove the RAM on the USB Flash memory drives either. Is there a way to get readers to external USB hard drive listed under "devices with removable storage"?

USB hard drives do not seem material RMB (removable media bit) bit set.
I tried to format my external drive scratch NTFS (it has been formatted in this way, but I have re-formatted to ensure that), and it always happens as "Local Disk". Also, I put the "Optimize for quick removal" option on the parameters of the disk driver hard software. Which doesn't change anything either. It came even as "Local Disk". Finally, I formatted the drive with the FAT32 file system (use some flash drives). The drive still shows as "Local Disk". In the tests described above, I still "withdrew safely" the disk first and then re-connected.
Thanks for the help, I now know it is a bit material in the electronic control unit which controls special registration of the drive in the operating system.

I downloaded the drivers needed from the Dell site and the burner will not work. The computer was again in March 2009. Not sure where the drivers should be located. I downloaded on: win\syswow64\drivers\afc.sys. I've looked everywhere and tried to find a dialog box offering the option "update drivers" for this device. Could not find a way to do except Dell and that doesn't seem to work. The 64-bit system has no 'Device Manager' that I can find. When I look at the properties of the burner, the link to "find a solution" is not highlighted.
Hello DanHenry,
Try the miracle solution at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 but before you uninstall all third-party software (example: Nero, Roxio, iTunes). You can reinstall your software after you reboot your system. Please let us know if this helped you. Make it a great day!

Drive hard error detected on the HP Pavilion dv6835nr with Vista Home Premium bits
Lately, my laptop has been slow to start. Yesterday, after control electronic, I noticed the screen turned black and only 3 icons were visible: Trash, Firefox and File Recovery... And a lot of small cascade titled windows: System message. and a file recovery window appears and scans to find out the necessary repairs. The message is "your computer is in critical condition. Hard drive detected error. "7 questions of repair, the next screen offers to upgrade my 'demo' (don't have the slightest idea what they're talking of)
When I click here to activate it, they want to buy such a product.
Is this a scam or a virus? How can I fix this problem.
HP Pavilion dv6835nr
Processor Intel Core 2 duo T5550
with 250 GB HDD

Please help me...
Hello:
Yes, you should try it but do not for get rid of the virus. The drive is bad, but you can try to recover the files you want to keep using this disc.
The GUI will allow you to explore your hard drive and if there's still life in it, you may still be able to see and copy your files to a storage device portable usb.
If the Kaspersky Rescue CD cannot access your hard disk, then all is lost.
Things to consider... dv9000 models are plagued by questions of the motherboard and you can opt for a new PC, rather than fixing you.
I do not work for HP, so I don't have to think that you buy a new laptop, but you have to consider the possibility of throwing good money after bad.
If you decide to buy a new hard drive, you can get a 7 200 RPM one which has better performance on a disk of 5 400 rpm, but it shorten the time between charges of battery a bit.
You will also need to buy a set of recovery disks. Info to do this is on the link below:
http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/bph07143
If you can still read the Vista product key 25 character on the bottom of your laptop, you can also make your own Vista installation DVD.
Here's how:
If you are in a fault light but rewarding you can do yourself if you can read your product key of Vista on the PC of 25 characters.
You just download the 3 files you need on the link below and read all the instructions to create a Setup bootable DVD disk using imageburn.
Do not take into account the part of the text in the first screen shot about "extract the files in the folder of Vista."
The files were extracted already in this folder when you ran the X14.exe file by reading the text on top of the first screenshot.
The other thing I noticed is on the 4th page, where it shows Developer ID Microsoft Corporation. I had to type Microsoft Corporation in me, and then other codes already filled in.
When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message on a WIM file, file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.
I selected no, make the ISO file.
It was not so hard to do. I burned both the disk of 64-bit and 32-bit disk in case I ever need them.
I tested both of them one my hp dc7100 CMT desktop PC, worked flawlessly.
When you enter the product key, he knows which version of Vista you have.
After you install Vista successfully, you can then install the drivers for your PC and driver page support.

I've recently updated my hard drive and ram, and when I tried to activate Windows Vista Home Premium, but got an error that says that he was already in use. I had used the code until I replaced the hardware, how to activate it on my new equipment?
You can reactivate your Windows Vista installation by doing the following:
1. click on the Start button and in the box, type search: slui.exe 4
2. press the Enter key on your keyboard.
3 select your country.
4 follow the instructions for the activation of the telephone (toll-free).

Although of course, the CD-ROM drive worked during the upgrade.
I noticed that when I turn firstly on the laptop, the last two lines of the front entry from Windows 7 are the following.
PXE - E6i:Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE Rom
During the audit of each Properties in Device Manager devices", I learned that they both work correctly. In the list in the printers and the @Devices the only Webcam shown is also a "USB 2.0 Camera"
Can someone help me please?
Best regards
JohnBesides what abdelhak says:
The message of PXE boot that you receive when you start your computer has nothing to do with your CD/DVD-Rom drive. Your computer uses a PXE boot method to attempt to load Windows from a location on your network. Since you do not have this configuration, it is safe to ignore it. If it slows down the startup time of your system, contact your manufacturer and ask them for instructions on how to "disable PXE Network Boot of the BIOS.

Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
correctly.Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.
Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.

Vista Home Premium will not write to CD - RW; will write to the CD - R and DVD
I installed all the updates window vista Home premium. I have a DVD/R/W/drive. Vista will write a CD - R disc and the DVD disc. Vista will open the media on a CD - R, DVD, and CD - RW, which is what I use. Vista will not write on a CD - RW disc, sending the files on the drive, pop - up Vista says "insert writable disc in the drive", or he'll want to format the drive, formatting always fails; I removed the filter upper and lower; I used MR. FixIt, and she came back with "media in the CD/DVD drive is not writable '; the disks are writable, but they are not recognized by Vista in writing. Here are the nine on box Maxell CD - RW discs. I have no problem with vista, write files to a CD - R or a DVD to burn. Windows Media Player will burn music to these CD - RW discs. How can I get Vista to recognize a CD - RW as a recordable disc?
Hello
1. what program do you use to burn files to CD - RW discs?
2. what type of files you are trying to burn?
3. this happens with all new CD - RW discs?
Try these steps and check.
Step 1: Lower the burn speed and check.
Step 2: Reinstall the driver of DVD player.
a. click Start, click run, type sysdm.cpland then clickOK.
b. in the hardware tab, click Device Manager.
c. expand ligthscribe-ROM readers, right-click on the drive and choose uninstall.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click OK.
d. on the Action menu, click on Search the hardware changes.
Step 3: If you have still the CD for your burning software, uninstall all the other DVD burning software on your computer and check. You can install their return after verification.

Error code 37. I have a model CM5688 E gateway with Windows Vista Home Premium. My Optiarc DVD RW AD - 7203 has left a couple of weeks of work. Anyone have an idea how I can get it working again?
Hi Sunday47,
There are many causes of Code 39 errors:
· A required device driver is missing.
· A required binary file is corrupted.
· There is a problem with the file I/O process.
· A driver that refers to an entry point in another binary file cannot load.
I suggest you try the following steps:
Step 1: Run the fixit available in the link below
Your CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314060
If the problem persists,
Step 2: Uninstall and reinstall the drivers.1. click on start and then click Control Panel.
2. click on system and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.
Note If Control Panel is in Classic view, double-click System and then click on Device Manager.
3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
4. in Device Manager, expand CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives, right click on the device CD and DVD and then click on uninstall.
5. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.
6. restart the computer.
After the computer restarts, the drivers will be installed automatically.
