My Favorites keep disappearing after a puppy

A few days ago, I collected a puppy Installer try to convert a video from youtube to mp3. I got rid of it using Malwarebytes, however he remained unwanted browser add ons, who questioned Firefox and I deleted. Whenever I open a browser these add ons tried to reinstall, so I downloaded a new copy of Firefox using IE but the problem persisted. I did a full scan with MBAM and using a SAS and nothing appearing. So I installed the old copy of 3 months of Firefox I had saved and then let it update. Perfect, problem solved, I thought. Then, I used Mozbackup to restore from a virus before time, which I used for years and had all my favorites return. However, now, whenever I open a browser all my favorites are there, but if I close the browser and reopen later, all my favorites disappear in front of me. I tried to restore them and then by another backup using Mozbackup while they are all there, but it's not helping. I can't restore my favorites whenever I open a browser. Help, please?

You sync your bookmarks from Firefox to the cloud, or using Firefox Sync, Xmarks or another service? I was wondering if which went kind of haywire.

    Hi ad391970,

The reason for updates make changes on the computer would be some conflicting third-party programs or there might be a corruption in the Windows Update components.

I suggest that you try to install updates by disabling the third-party program conflict and check if it works.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Perform the check and the clean boot if you have the problem.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    User account control permission

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem is resolved to check what is the cause of the problem, referring to the link given below:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

If the step above does not resolve the issue updates suggest that you try to reset the component of windows update and check if it works.

Check out the link below to find out how to reset the windows component update

  • All Favorites & history disappeared after the upgrade to ver. 22 and bookmarks backup folder contains nothing from before the upgrade. Where are they?

This morning, my Windows 7 installed the last updated. When I started again subsequently, Internet Explorer (which I hate!) my default browser and Firefox worm. 21 stated that it should be updated to 22. I did, and all my browsing history and bookmarks disappeared. I found my file backup bookmarks, but it is empty. It's as if I never had a previous version of Firefox and am completely new. Any suggestions on how I can recover my favorites?

I found a solution for me. I find my old bookmarks folder in a cloud backup program I use and restored from there. First time I needed to use it. Still don't like the update of Windows has done to my Firefox, Picasa and some other programs!

  • My profile keeps disappearing after closing Firefox. In order to open it to the top, I have to keep re - create a new. How to fix?

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and no dice. If I don't re - create the new profile, I get the error message that the profile is missing or inaccessible while trying to open firefox. I have to open the browser by clicking on the new profile, that I just created in the Manager profile area.

This may be due to a problem with the file profiles.ini.

It is probably best to delete the file profiles.ini to force Firefox to create a new default profile

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

    • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\
      C:\Users\ < user > < profile > \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.
    • Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
    • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox /.

    Hi, Lewis S.,.

Shortcuts to sites will initially their own custom icon when you create a shortcut. This icon is called a "favicon.ico" and is stored in the temporary Internet files (TIF) cache, which is where all website files, are stored when you visit them. If the cache is disabled, all custom icons are removed.

You can restore the favorite icons of bookmarking site again. The other method is described below.

Step 1: Locate the favorite on the Temporary Internet Files folder icons.

    a. the default temporary Internet files location is C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files

    b. navigate to the location above.

    c. ensure that the hidden files and folders is disabled so that you can access the location.

    Reference: Show hidden files

    d. type fav*.ico in the search field. This will pull up your favorite icons.

    e. copy and paste icons to another folder, such as the C:\Favorites icon.

Follow the instructions below to point the bookmark to the permanent icon file.

    Step 2: Customize icons

    a. open Internet Explorer.

    b. click the Favorites icon.

    c. right-click on the favorite that you want to change icon.

    d. Select Properties.

    e. under the web document tab, click Change icon.

    f. click Browse to navigate to the location where the folder is stored. IE C:\Favorites icon.

  • Icons disappear after restart dock, although they are marked "keep in Dock".

Program (e.g. MS Word) icons, which I have added to the dock disappear after a reboot, although they are marked "keep in Dock".

Why and how can I solve this problem?

Try to restart the Dock using the following command in Terminal:

    Killall Dock

Log outgoing/incoming and test. If this does not work, you need to look in your user Library/Application Support/docking station for the .db. Use the Finder "Go to folder" command. Enter ~/Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db on your desktop.

Then try a reset of the docking station.

    Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command

    Killall Dock

Log out/in test. If it works fine, delete the .db from the desktop.

If the dock is the same, back up the .db you, crushing the latest.

  • My Favorites disappeared after I chose Safe Mode, why and how can I get back them?

For some reason, a dialog box appeared when I tried to open Firefox. It never happened to me before. I had to choose Mode without failure or default. I chose Safe Mode and now all my favorites have disappeared! I don't know how to get out of this mode and none of the ways recommended to restore my bookmarks work. Help! Most of my work contacts were in the bookmarks. I'm sure that there was an update of Firefox within the last few days. I have Windows 7.

Did you create a new profile?

You can check if there are multiple profiles.

  • Some favorites have disappeared from my bookmarks bar (after the update?)

Basically, the question says it all.

All of a sudden a lot of my favorites have disappeared from my bookmarks bar. I can't find them anywhere.

I used to have many of them, some in directories/folders, some 'free' - but never more than two branches down.

If you open the dialog box (Ctrl + Shift + b) library and explore there, can you find in a strange place?

If they're really gone, it is possible that the database file that stores the bookmarks and history is corrupted. COR - el has a few suggestions for it here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/956965#answer-428511

Alternatively, you can immediately make a backup copy of your folder bookmarkbackups. This folder can be placed using:

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

I suggest you copy (not move, simply copy) the folder bookmarkbackups set to another location, such as your Documents or a USB flash drive. In this way time passes, you will always have older backups to restore if necessary.

  • My Favorites disappeared after I've upgraded to Firefox 17. How can I restore from the previous version which was installed on my computer?

I upgraded my Firefox to version 14 to 17. and to my dismay that all my favorites have disappeared. Is it possible to restore them?

    Read the following article.

  • Text caption disappears after 3 seconds, even if by default is set to keep for the duration of the slide.

On each slide, I have a different title in the upper right. I noticed that they disappeared after a few seconds, I went into preferences and set the default value for the text caption, image, etc. to stay for the duration of the slide. But when I go to test it, they disappear after three seconds still.

    I'm doing something wrong?

    Thank you

    Arthur

... and if you do not override the style of titles, using the small arrow curved in the upper right of the accordion of Timing will allow you to propagate the change of one legend to all others with the same style.

  • Some of the icons in front of my favorites have disappeared. HUH?

Some of the icons in front of my favorites have disappeared. Others are still there. What can I do to get back them?

Try to restore with this extension:

If this does not help then it is possible that there is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

You must use CheckPlaces once after you remove files in places.
