If you go to Start, all programs, Windows Update and view update history, you will see the entry failed for SP1.
If you right-click and choose details, it should give you the details of the error.

What happens when it stops it is have a Sata driver. It is on the drivers cd you received with your computer. You can also start the computer and press F2 to enter the bios. From there down to Configuration system - SATA Operation and change this to ATA. It is located to AHCI. Save the changes and restart the installation. Once you have loaded Windows and drivers installed, you will need to go back to AHCI.

There is no download available on the Net and your hard drive as failed now, you are unable to make the recovery of the disks.
And you cannot use from recovery disks of a different brand or model (laptop) to reinstall Vista on your Tower / Desktop
Contact HP and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

so, I'm running vista 64 bit basic, I want to do a fresh install,
but my drive is very early (noservice packs ect) can I download of ms a basic family of complete up-to-date vista 64-bit with sp2 with my cd key? or should I shut up and make from my cd and cope? If I do a reinstall should I reinstall all my programs as well?

You can download the full SP2 for Vista from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16468
Save the file to a CD/DVD or USB key.
Once you have the service pack downloaded file, you can use your current Vista CD to install a fresh copy of Windows Vista on your C: drive. Once you have installed Vista you can install service pack 2 directly from the CD/DVD or USB you originally stored it on. All you then need to do is to run the Windows updates to update your system completely.

I got LR cc 2015 put in place so that the images have been imported on my external hard drive and lightroom files were stored there. This hard drive has failed, but I was able to save all my files (original) and I transferred to a new external hard drive. Now, I can't get LR to recognize the new drive and location. LR albums have? next to them. I would appreciate any help you can give me that I have try to reconnect LR with the new source of my images. Sorry, I'm not very technologically.

There are 153 images in this catalog, all on 1 external. Which does not seem right, or you expect very different numbers, could you give me an idea of what numbers you expect?
This seems to be an empty catalog with any folder. It seems to me that you have opened an empty catalog somehow. Could you please try file-> open the recent item and see if any of the other catalogues listed is the one you want? If this does not work, could you please try to restore a recent backup of your catalog file and see if the situation is resolved?

Two months ago, I bought the laptop mentioned above and while using a few days ago, he went suddenly slow and crashed with a blue screen error. He said he would restart and when he did, he couldn't find the hard drive. I was in the BIOS and it is not listed there, I tried it on another laptop and it didn't work, I tried to put in a basket and that has not worked and I tried a few CD bootable (including Ubuntu Live) and none of them could see the HARD drive. For me its very clear number and don t think you need other methods to check the HARD drive.
If the HARD drive is not in the BIOS, this means that the HARD drive is dead and must be replaced.The laptop is under warranty so get in touch with Toshiba ASP (authorized service provider), your country, to get the new HARD drive.
