My iPod touch shows that usb cable/iTunes on the screen logo

I went to update the software on my iPod touch girls.  At halfway iTunes came back and said that there is an error with the download.   Now, the iPod primer not completely and has a black screen showing the usb cable and iTunes logo.  I tried to make the home/power button combo, but he circles on the screen.  It does not give me the opportunity the restore/update.   Is there anything else I can do?

The screen is indicative of your to connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes
