My laptop (DV7 - 4260ca) supports a 2nd hard drive?

Hi, my laptop (DV7 - 4260ca) has a slot identical to the current my HDD is screwed, but I can't seem to find where to connect a second hard drive. There are screws and everything like that, except the spot to plug. I couldn't look hard enough, however. I want an SSD, but if there is nowhere where to plug into it, there is no point.

Hi, Jeremy:

You can call HP and see what they have to say about SATA II/III, but I think that if your laptop is not under warranty you could get pay for technical assistance.

I have never installed a secondary HARD drive in the notebook, so I don't know what port you plug the other end of the cable in.

The problem is there are 2 configurations dv7 is why there are 2 different cables to the HARD drive.

I think this post might answer your question: read the info of the carloprimo. It shows where to connect the other end of the cable into your model.

Finally, it is my pleasure to be able to help the people on the forum free HP.

I am very pleased that you appreciate my help, and that's enough thank you.

Best regards

    Hello

Sorry if the answer is posted elsewhere. I looked and you can't find one specifically for my model.

I have a dv7-3160us, which has the secondary drive Bay.

I have a second WD 500 GB SATA bare drive.

Where can I get information on obtaining a mounting bracket so the cable appropriate to mount this drive naked in the secondary drive Bay?

I was on the phone with HP tech supp, even after nearly 30 minutes to try to explain what I had it and still had no idea told me he ALREADY had a hard disk of 500 GB in it... :-) Enough of that.

    Any help appreciated.

The service guide says that you have a hard drive configuration 2 x 320 GB 5400 RPM, but I don't think that the speed must be at 5400 RPM. However, the speed of the two drives should be the same I guess. As 2 x 7200 rpm or 2 x 5400 RPM...

  • DV7-4280us - Bay of disk HARD 2nd vacuum has no visible connection to a 2nd HARD drive.

My laptop Pavilion DV7 and previous DV8 had two bays for HARD drives, one of them wired to a hard drive, but not containing is not a hard disk at the time of purchase.  I expect the same thing when I ordered this Pavilion DV7-4280us, which is, I think, made in China, but I have not the same.  This one came without visible connectors for the hard drive, I had already bought to install into the empty Bay.  My Technical Support call made me advice to buy a disc kit hard (with caddy & connections) from HP, as if the receive connectors were available in the drive Bay HARD vacuum.  I didn't not agree because (and the next two paragraphs I added so that the well-intentioned forum members continue to give me the standard answer for laptops which actually have the usual connectors & waiting in the drive Bay HARD 2nd vacuum.  I appreciate the two forum members who have offered help so far, but there is no need to waste more based on my failure to clarify the problem):

There is NO METAL NAKED INTO THE BAY VOID that COULD CONNECT a HARD disk.
UNLESS A NEW CONNECTOR GOES TO THE MOTHERBOARD HARD DRIVE, IT IS USELESS FOR THIS COMPUTER.

Each HARD drive connector I've seen only connects the HARD drive to a connector in the HARD drive Bay.

The connector of the latter reaches the motherboard, and that the connector does not exist in this 2nd computer HARD disc Bay.

Even if I could get a cable to connect a HARD drive to an unused connection & waiting on the M-Board, I can't M-Board.  M-Board is inside a barrier which could be called the bottom of the laptop - external surface of the portable computer.  (Battery and bays for HARD drives are outside the confines of the current computer, the value in their own hollow spaces in the bottom panel, with secondary coverage on the hollow spaces, i.e. the bays for HARD drives and storage media).  I looked for a way really open the casing and expose the M-Council connection for 2nd HARD drive (IF it exists); but I didn't know how to do it.  It is clear to me that this is not intended to be a facility run by the user. But I would if HP (or maybe even a 3rd party who made it) provided some good instructions.

I'd like to think that HP did not make this change to the line DV7 laptops to double HARD drive, and that the Chinese manufacturer made the change without approval or even knowledge of the management of HP.  I want to believe that because he was, at best, a really stupid thing for HP to the customers who pay for the best HP can provide.

So my questions are the following:

    1. The motherboard in this computer still has the ability to manage a 2nd hard drive?
    2. If 'NO', then HP would be willing to take over this very disappointing computer in Exchange to a DV7 which is equipped with HARD drive connectors available in the 2nd, empty, Bay?
    3. If 'YES', then
    4. HP or someone else would be willing to provide connectors, and instructions for me,
    5. OR install the missing connection to the drive for me, Bay
    6. While, in both cases 4 or 5, I can install a HARD drive in the Bay, empty 2nd drive reasonably, I expected when I ordered this computer?

All my apologies and thanks to KaLin0908, who responded so quickly and helped me realize that my original description was not clear enough.  I hope that my changes to clarify the problem have not ruined the tone of my call.  I'm aiming for "clear and grateful."  If this revision reads as Loud or Yelling or abrasive or anything else bad, I'd appreciate any suggestions to improve it.

    I have the same computer.

At first seems like you say but

If you look carefully the second Bay of hd, you will see 4 small holes

Those who are for the hard drive caddy, you can buy that and it's expensive

You should also buy a hd cable, but be careful, there must be about 5 inches long

The cable for 1 hard disk does not work

One end goes on the hard drive and the other going to the MB. The connection is planned

    for the memory modules

The kit costs about $ 45. If bought at hp and about 35 if purchased by another company

    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&products_id=345

This will give you an idea of where/how the screws connect to the caddy

    4. connect the hd to the caddy /ssd

    4. connect the housing inside the laptop

  • 2nd hard drive install on pavilion dv7-3060us 17.3 inches with Quad core processor

Pavilion dv7-3060us computer has a 2nd hard drive Bay.  On 2 flags of 17.3 inches previous, I installed a 2nd HDD.  This quad core Pavilion is much thinner than the previous pavilions;  the underside of the computer has also a centre piece in the form of "T" in the Panel without screw - is a pop on the access panel or the entire bottom panel needs to be removed through the perimeter screws?  Still trying to find a manual showing this particular case - no luck so far.  The downloaded HP

Manual for the previous dv-7 is for the case of style like unless I missed something.

Install an SSD soon - would like to have all the "stuff" to install a 2nd drive hard if possible.  Anything I should be aware of before perform this procedure?  Don't really want to remove all the merits of the case.

The "T" sign on the back of my case has no screws - but I can see the 3 component tabs snap at the top of the "T" through the small crack on the case.  These are shown on the exploded view of repair.  I'm projecting from the 'snap-out' Panel down on the vertical leg of the "T".

    Success!

I think it was just plugging in the cable needed to be reinstalled.

I confirmed that the drve was good with an external cable.

I made the stop while holding down the SHIFT key.

    Once it did not work.

Then I took out the cable and put it back making sure to he went in the port exactly how is HDD - 1.

This time, he appeared in the windows Device Manager. I already made the partition, format, assign the drive letter.

Everything is good to go now. I'm glad, that I have a lot of storage space on my laptop.

Thanks for the suggestions, have a nice day.

How did you add it? Where's the hardware mounting hard disk? In any State of cause, assuming that you have installed a hard drive was bought, it would be empty and needs be initialized (mounted) and formatted. To find computer or this PC in the right click menu... Choose manage, disk management and you will see a Visual representation of the hard drives. It can automatically prompts you to initialize the disk. Once do you that and format it in ntfs and assign a drive letter and the name of the volume, it will appear in the computer as a lettered drive.

  • Satellite P500-12D adding 2nd HARD drive

Toshiba UK say it is not possible to install a second drive in a P500-12D.
The reason seems to be that the "bowl" for the second disk drive carrier is not sold.
I was also told that the second drive Bay could not be used "on the model" but the sata connection is there and inserts brass threaded in the case of the scree of the carrier are present.

The Bay is deeper than 1 Bay (for the thicker > 500 GB drives and, therefore, the support unit for the 1st Bay can be used - entire centres are also different.)

    Ideas for a work around?

Sorry for the spelling mistakes - my original message would not be accepted "your message contains profanity or inappropriate language.
In the interest of your fellow forum users, we ask you to change your message.
"but no indication as to where." Maybe it's that the things happening in the threaded inserts are not allowed

    > The reason seems to be that the "bowl" for the second disk drive carrier is not sold.
The reason is that there are different configurations of P500
The P500 and other series of Toshiba laptops are equipped with different motherboards.
Not all motherboards support 2 HARD drive controllers.

This can be a bit confusing for someone buying a laptop and see the second HARD drive Bay, but if you would remove the 2nd HARD drive Bay cover, then you will see that there is no HARD drive connector.
This means that you will not be able to use the second HARD drive.

  • No satellite P770-111 no SATA cable to connect the 2nd HARD drive

    Hello!

I bought by Satellite P770-111 3 days and was hoping to insert another HARD drive that I had in my old laptop.
OK, I opened the plastic cover on the bottom side of the laptop and there are 2 slots of HDD (2.5 ") but a single HARD disk.
A HARD disk that is currenty in the laptop's big 500 GB. I would like to install another, but there is a problem:
There is no cable to connect it to the motherboard SATA.

Basically, there are 2 slots hard drive but only a connection interface. Could you please tell me how could I install a 2nd HARD drive?

    Thank you in advance!

    Damjan

    > there is no cable to connect it to the motherboard SATA.
The fact is that not all laptops of the same series of notebook models are equipped with the same motherboard and controllers of same.
This means that even if there is a second HARD-drive Bay, you will not be able to use a 2nd HARD drive. You know

The chassis is the same in all models of laptops but there are different motherboards and not all supported 2nd controller.

  • 2nd hard drive for HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Notebook - what do I need?

Hi, I have the HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook (product # WV703AV). It can accommodate two hard disks but only came with one. What would need to be able to install the second hard drive? I need just a connecting cable or I also need to caddy or kit?

Also, would I get a solid state? My laptop that would support or should I just use regular?

Currently, I am on Windows 7 64-bit. I have a 500 GB hd (which came to be partitioned with hp tools/restoration).

Help with what I would need to a conventional hard drive or ssd would be greatly appreciated. I tried to look through messages of others first, but could not find anything specific to my model. Thanks for your time!

    Hello:

The only place I know where you can get a 2nd hard drive kit is that provider.

    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&products_id=345

Your laptop should be able to work with an SSD, but I can't guarantee it.

I don't really see any point in adding an SSD unless you make the main hard drive, and to do this, you must get an SSD of the same size as the original 500 GB hard drive to use the recovery discs to reinstall the operating system.

Most people get smaller SSD and they use the W7 product key to activate a simple installation of W7.

If you can read all 25 characters of your product key for windows 7, you can do your own installation media and allows to install Windows on a smaller than 500 GB SSD.

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.
