Update Windows stuck in a loop. Keeps trying to download page 3 of 3, but never does, then restarts and is trying to download. Can't stop the loop to try something else.

The operating system is Windows Vista.

I found this as a solution and to share it here, I still have questions, but thinking might help someone.

Windows Vista and 7 update Reboot Loop Fix

Symptom: You have a update that is causing Windows Vista or Windows 7, stuck in an infinite loop. The problem usually manifests as a "step 3 of 3:0 % complete...". "followed by a restart which starts at the exact same message, not allowing you to get on your account of connection or a desktop at all. It's a pain, and he doesn't stop, even in Mode without failure or advanced trying last good known Configuration in the start menu.

Here is the short version for people who know how to get to tools to do this and if run System Restore from the installation DVD does not work: DELETE files

    \Windows\WinSxS\cleanup.XML AND (as applicable)

\Windows\WinSxS\pending.XML and the infinite loop update will be set.

There are two ways to get the files, you need to delete. The easiest is to start your installation of Windows and the button 'Install now' DVD, click on the link located at the bottom left that says 'Repair your computer' open a command prompt and type:

    del C:\Windows\WinSxS\cleanup.xml

    del C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml

The other way is to download a live Linux distribution such as the System of Tritech Service (which, unlike Vista or 7 DVD, can be booted from a USB flash drive for computers with no CD/DVD drive such as netbooks), open a command prompt, mount the file system and deleting the files. Assuming that your Windows installation is the first partition on the first hard disk, the following commands in rxvt or a console in the Tritech Service system should work:

    Mount.NTFS - 3 g/dev/sda1/mnt/sda1

    RM /mnt/sda1/Windows/*/cleanup.xml /mnt/sda1/Windows/*/pending.xml

    umount/mnt/sda1

    discount to zero f

Anyway you do it, this solution will stop the engine update loop reboot and let you return to your computer. You may need to make some corrections, additional or manual updates if you have problems, but unless your login screen and/or the Office should be accessible! Is a very annoying problem and I noticed that Google is looking for things like "stage of vista 3 3 restart" usually only provides information about how to run the system on a Vista DVD restore. Unfortunately, if there is a problem with an update, sometimes the system restore does not work and fail with obscure errors, so this info is vital.

Maybe it's your last chance to avoid giving to the top and reinstalling Windows, and we always like avoiding relocations!

  • Problem WORD PAD under Windows 7. A screen undeletable app crashes me to access my saved documents and may not be x'd out.

When I opened Word Pad (successfully) in Windows 7, a problem blocking me to access my saved documents previously.  Rather than open the document saved as I click (to open saved documents) in the list of documents in the "document library", has downplayed the app screen appears on the window of the library of Documents and this application cannot be deleted because by clicking x on the top right does nothing.
Using Safe Mode clumsily make you a previously saved in Word Pad document more. But it is not populate the list in the list of recent Documents in Word Pad. And in Safe Mode, it is displayed in a broken (and difficult to use) manner.
Word Starter villainous blocking app appears as an opening window reduced titled Microsoft Word Starter 2010 (whatever it is), who appears on the document library list window and cannot be deleted.  When I try to x this unwanted App (top right of the application) to raise and close (because he keeps me to access my saved documents) nothing happens.  The x (close) or dash (minimize (-) button (upper-right corner of the app minimized window) do anything.)  If I can't access any of my saved Word Pad documents.  But I peut begin a new document again using the fresh blank document that appears when I open Word Pad, or open a new empty menu, which means Word Pad works fine.
So I tried to solve the problem in uninstallation of Microsoft Office (which I don't use) it would uninstall the unwanted Word Starter 2010 application.  However, the problem still exists, and the unwanted app reappears every time I try to open my documents previously stored in the document library list.  And when I tried to search my computer for this unwanted Microsoft Word 2010 application to delete, I couldn't find any trace of it, anywhere.  There must be a hidden application.
Not only that, but when I open freshly Word Pad - a list of recent Documents (in the menu option extreme top left (that I had used to open with) is inexplicably empty, but it will display all of my saved documents previously (on the right side).    Another method, that I've used to access documents in Word Pad was to click on my icon in taskbar (where I pinned the little icon to access Word Pad), but the list of my previous documents is therefore more in the field of small options which is the opposite, I used to be able to access my Word Pad documents recorded directly. The list is gone.
So when I click on one of the documents stored in the document library list, that he does not attend the Word Pad at all, but rather, the unwanted app appears in front of the document library, list of blocking and cannot be deleted.  Only when I go out the document library he disappears with the window of the document library itself.
Can you please tell me how I can remove the screen yellow reduced app unwanted (Word Starter 2010) to block my access to one of my Word Pad documents.  Right now, Safe Mode is the only way to access the Word Pad documents, and it's a way uncomfortable to do.
I just want to make Microsoft Word Starter 2010 stop appearing when I don't need too and make it capable of being x'd out of the screen.

  • HP LaserJet 6MP: Windows updated my computer last night, now my 6MP HPLaserJer does not work and I can't get the driver

After windows updated my computer, my laserjet6MP will not print.  When I click on print, an error message appears indicating that there is an error in printing.  When I checked for error it says there is a job prevents printing to the printer, but there is no jobs in the queue.

I recently put my computer Setup initial because a hacker stuck to the top of my use of the computer.

I have not all printers working, but now after update it does not print.  I love this printer and do not give it up.

If the printer is connected with a parallel cable to the printer to the computer (usb adapter no) go into the Device Manager and click ports, and then click the lpt port that the printer is attached.  Change the default checkmark do not use an interruption for the last item to use any available interruption.  Also the legacy box downstairs.  Save the settings and the printer should work now.

  • TB 38.2.0 on Windows 8.0: since the update to 38.2.0, the program hangs and does not respond. I have to close TB and re-run the program - it works then.

This has only started happening since Thunderbird has been updated to version 38.2.0.
It seems to happen after restarting the computer (W8.0) of the State of "sleep".
It seems that some mails are downloaded, then the program crashes and is then completely insensitive.
Closing the program and once again start times seem to restore its functionality - the remaining emails are then downloaded and restored normal user interaction.

The image (it back up to an external drive as full image) and reinstall Windows XP, update, drivers and everything.  Install any plugins that you NEED to do all that you see here that the bat hurt.  If the problem no longer exists, something has gone wrong with your system from before (corrupt files or your cleaning is not as complete as you think) and if the problem persists - probably something to do with the material. In all cases, you can return to the image if you wish.

To the extent wherever it is the registry, I must ask, * how * you have come to this conclusion?  Not that I'm defending something - I was wondering what you did to decide who is not your registry database?  (Side: I agree with you.)

That's what * I * would call cleaning and optimization of a Windows XP machine:

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.
