My Mac is no more to receive messages from the Message Test transmission test and when I try to put it up to my Mac does not display the six-digit code. What can I do to fix this?

I have a MacBook Air 11 inch 1.7 GHz Core i7 with 8 GB of ram and 500 GB of hard drive running El Capitan. I have an iphone running ios 9.1 6. I can't my text messages to my mac. It was working fine up to three days. I'm in messages to settings then forwarding Message text and my phone has a pop up that prompts me to enter my code to six digits of my Mac but my Mac does not produce a six-digit code to enter. Is there a way that I can apply to my mac to send a code or other difficulty I have to do?

Thank you for your help.

Best.

Problems like this are often set by disconnect and connect again. Make that open the Messages on your Mac app, then select the Messages menu > Preferences... > accounts. Select the iMessage in question account (in other words, the account linked to your Apple ID and not those of other messaging services you may be using) then the logout button.

Reconnect and follow all the other instructions included in If you cannot send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch - Apple Support.

IOS update: update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch - Apple Support. This alone is not likely to be linked to the problem, but it includes a number of other bug fixes.
