My Mac Pro is coming with 16 GB of Ram, but it shows 12 GB.

Hi all!

I just went from ElCapitane to Sierra and I find that my computer does not appear all the ram it has. Does someone can tell how I can solve this problem?

Thank you!

Hello Olegcotuna,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. I know have a problem with the memory on your Mac Pro is not what you expect. Based on what you said, it seems that you can be affected by your Mac does not have the right amount of memory you have installed. I would like to start by running the built in Apple Hardware Test or diagnosis Apple, according to what year comes from your Mac. Hello

I'm a long-time Palm enthusiast who is frustrated.  No Palm products more for me or anyone I talk to until I fix this.  Someone at Palm should pay attention to their long-standing customers.  I bought Palm trees in 2002 and 2003.

I have a 4.1 MAC PRO 8-CORE 2.26 (radeon 5870) and use it with snow leopard and recently added the el captain on the second startup disk.

for a monitor, I use the U of DELL 3011 via display port.

the only solution by chance that I found at the Leopard version is to use the TESt MONITOR EIZO and after closing this program everything happens here, it should be! When I open again the test, it looks appropriate to the levels of white on black r correct and distinguished colors are more natural and when I print it is exactly the same.

unfortunate this model does not work at the start of the captain el drive so I had to ask for help in the community

  • Mac Pro and living with storage Thunderbolt

Yes I m thinking of diving and the purchase of the Mac Pro with 256 or 512 GB SSD. So what I wonder about is what kind of external storage Thunderbolt to buy and how performance is with love at first sight when you work with large image (1-2 GB. tif´s) files. The internal memory won't be enough with 256 / 512GB SDD and the 1 TB i dear for me. So I'd rather have an external storage to store the images and also do the real work.

The computer I m using right now is a Macbook Pro 2011 with a 256 GB OSX disc and 1 to mechanical (swapped the optical drive).

  • end of 2013 Mac Pro self begins with red light under DIMM 3

My end of 2013 "trash" Mac Pro has an intermittent problem on start up - this can take up to 8 auto restarts before it starts to fully operational status. During these reboots red lights are visible through the base, in the area of the 3 & 4 DIMM slots. This happens in about 3-4 times when the Mac Pro is started first thing in the morning. Sometimes - but rarely - it will also restart after a period of normal operation.

Run diagnostics and, before one of the operations described below, this indicates that all was well but the 2 just many times where I ran diagnosis, he pointed out that no WiFi interface has been installed. Have also run Memtest that since several days of testing, running as a single user with multiple passes, says memory all OK.

Have tried resetting the SMC both NVRAM and update of the OS. Removed and reinstall the RAM modules. After the reinstallation of modules, first start only registered DIMM 1 & 2 modules. There seems to be no problem with the seating, nothing loose or place and taken liberation were entirely home. Next and all subsequent boots saved all 4 modules.

A day of immediate bootups without problem but then, first thing this morning, had two cottages restarts during startup. I gave the 2nd boot press / press and hold the 'on' then booted diagnosis - no problem not indicated. On the startup resulting, everything was fine.

I guess the problem is in, either the GPU or with 3 & 4 DIMM slots. Can someone tell me the meaning of red lights? Diagnosis would be easier if I knew.

    Hello Bob,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I see that you have found a red flashing in the 3 & 4 DIMM slots. Typically, this indicates a bad RAM module or the module is not seated properly. I see you have already done the troubleshooting that I would have recommended. So, unless you have third-party RAM installed in your Mac Pro, I suggest you take a look at the following link to access the service options for your computer.

  • Mac pro (early 2008) suddenly doesn't recognize RAM

Model: Mac Pro (early 2008), 2 x Quad Core Intel Xeon 3.2, 20 GB (should have been 24Go - only recently realized that Genius bar replaced RAM they lost with bad spec, so we have to work outside 20 GB for now), NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB, startup disk 500 GB SSD, 1 TB SATA 7200 RPM, 2 TB SATA 72 RPM.

O/S: Yosemite, 10.10.5 (14F1509) (to date). Waiting for the seeds with Adobe in El Capitan to be ironed out before the upgrade.

Background: Mac runs slowly, and the fan is constantly on high even if Mac is not that much. Checked, only 16Gb 20 Gb showing, which then deteriorated to 12 and finally 8 GB of RAM.

    Checks / actions so far:

-C' IS good RAM for this machine, IE 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, provided by Apple.

-All the RAM recognized before (he's been there more than a year and the last time I looked, it was see 20 GB, which is what is inside).

-DIMM is properly matched on boards.

-Boards are fully seated in the riser.

N ' had not moved machine or s/w recently updated.

-Removed and replaced DIMM, which dumped first tips of handling static etc. carefully according to the instructions from Apple. This resulted in reduction of recognized with 12 GB of RAM.

-Again re-allocation of places 2nd; It resulted that 8 GB being recognized.

-Same report (8 GB) I look under > memory or under Activity Monitor > memory

-No obvious problem with DIMMs or connectors; No dust, scratches or crud.

    -Replace the LANDAU and SMC

Now at the end of the straps with a job to get out (and Lightroom being a bigger dog than usual with only 8 GB of RAM. I read all the posts I can find on this point, can't find anything I did not... Ideas please people?

The FBDIMM used in these Macs run hot and die. You did probably nothing wrong, and there is none of the extrinsic factors that prevent your RAM from functioning. DIMMs indicate does not are diagnosed properly - they're dead.

You can buy more if you want to run more.

Make sure that you buy DIMM modules with the huge heat sinks and Apple has approved the temperature probe, or they will die sooner.

As a preventive measure, you can use a third-party program to modestly increase the fan speed.

  • Satellite A660 - 11 M: does not start with 8 GB of RAM, but works with 6 GB

    Satellite A660 - 11 M:

I upgraded my RAM to 4 GB (2x2gb) up to 8 GB (2x4gb). When I start the computer I can see in the BIOS it reads 8 GB of RAM. However, when starting, it does not go beyond the white screen BACK (just before Windows starts).

If I delete one of the 4 GB & replace it with a 2 GB (so I have 6 GB total) it starts ok.

Anyone know how I can get it to work with 8 GB of RAM?

    Hey,.

To be honest, I've never heard of RAM SanMax modules...
In my opinion the problem is related to your RAM modules is not compatible to your laptop or defective.

You can test it with high-quality Kingston or prétestées authorized service modules?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8620: Problem with the body of the e-mail showing after parsing a PDF to e-mail.

I have a new 8620 Pro of Officejet and I loved this day except for one thing. When I scan a PDF document (and perhps other types), Outlook to send I then write in the body of the e-mail - for the recipient. However when I send it, the message does not send with attachment. The attachment of the e-mail but no message. What happened several times.

When I send an email directly from QuickBooks, I can only send 1 inv both. I want to scan to PDF and send 2 or more both with a messge in the body. This method works except for the body (msg) is not there.  Why is that and can be set in the settings or? I tried all the settings that seem reasonable. Help, please!

    Lucinell007,

As mentioned, I do not use Outloook - I him have not done for years.

    I might miss something else.

In general, if "scan to e-mail" is not allowing you to scan and then add text to your body of the email to send, and then you have the option that works for those of us suffering from the lack of sophistication E-mail:

    • Scan the images / document (s) in your computer and save the file (s)
    • Create an e-mail using your Outlook email client
    • Join the image / document (s)
    • Send the email

  • Install XP Pro (32 bit) with 8 GB of RAM

I have a new machine and I put Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it. But I have a few old programs that may not work in Windows 7, so I intend to install XP Pro x 86 on a separate drive (two clean installs), dual boot. I know that Win 7 Pro and Ultimate offer XP mode, but I don't have those. I have Home Premium. My questions are:

-Should I install Win 7 first and only install XP if my applications do not work? Or do I have to install XP first to correctly set up a system dual boot?

-My system has 8 GB of RAM. I know that XP x 86 will recognize only 4 GB of memory system including other installed hardware. I'm fine with that. Will I have problems (failures, data corruption), but try to install XP with 8 GB?

    Here are my machine features:
    Core i5 2500 K
    Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4 B3
    Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 8GB (2 x 4 GB)
    EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
    Intel X 25 - V SSD 40 GB (x 2)

It is better to install XP first and then Windows 7, how you can reverse wich OS is installed first.

I noticed that you have the chipset Intel B3 stepping. They only send you naked Board as a replacement for or the whole box with cables and plate I/O?

  • Satellite Pro A100-830 with 4 GB of memory but the BIOS tells me that I have only 3 GB

I have a Satellite Pro A100-830 and I bought the maximum memory for what is 2x2gb, for a total of 4 GB in my world. When I put the DIMMs in themselves in a slot, the BIOS reports 2 GB. BIOS Bravo! When I put both together, I see only 3 GB in the bios!

I found this link on the Crucial site. http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.asp?QID=4251

Suggest page files, peripherals etc. occupy memory on your system at startup, before the operating system is used I guess. If you do not have the maximum memory installed, you should see the total memory. If you got the maximum memory installed, you will not see the memory used by page etc. files. Why would it be? Why you would see 2 GB if you have only 2 GB but then see 3 GB if you have 4 GB due to the system!

Anyone can shed some light on this subject and be eligible or reject the information in this link. I need to replace the memory and/or the pc?

    Thank you

    Mark

This is not a BIOS problem but a Windows.
    I found this info:
Windows XP Professional 32-bit is limited to 4 GB of address space. If you have 4 GB of RAM installed, it won't show 4 GB in Windows. You will probably get what the size of your pagefile subtracted the 4 GB.

Some of this address space is reserved for the hardware and the operating system... so you will never have access to the 4 GB maximum in any case. If you want access to 4 GB of RAM +... your best solution is to pick up XP Pro 64 - bit... but this will only work if your CPU P4 has EMT64. (64-bit)
You can also try to turn on DEP if it is not already enabled... This will also allow EAP that can give you access to all 4 GB

    So finally a response:
    > Do I need to replace the memory and/or the pc
-> No, everything is ok... you need not to change the hardware

    Just reply:
The laptop uses the shared video memory card.
(Perhaps an ATI RADEON Xpress 200 M graphics card with available 32 MB to 128 MB.)
Currently, the video graphics card sharing 65 MB of main memory. (256 MB 191 MB = 65 MB)

  • Best Mac Pro Configuration for LR?

For various reasons, I'm planning on migrating from my home desktop pc (4 years core2 2.4 ghz xp pro sp 3 32-bit to access the 2.93 on 4 GB of ram) to a new or (slightly used recently) Mac Pro desktop computer.  The Mac Pro is available in many different configurations and I would appreciate advice on the number of cores and the amount of ram I really need to run comfortably LR3x and its upgrades (within reasonable limits) and the PS3 for now and more later probably all that is underway.  I'm a reasonably advanced amateur photographer. I shoot what interests me and now use LR 90-95% of my post processing of my image of Leica and Canon raw files. I use some add-ons (SilverEfex Pro2 and others).

I understand some articles read too much muscle in the Mac Pro can actually slow down LR, so if this is the case I would stay slim; also economic issues are somewhat a matter of concern.

I have already considered a laptop or an iMac and decided that the Mac Pro is what I want.  The question is just "what will work best for me?

Thanks in advance and if you want more information, just make me know.

    -Bob

p.s. - What is disabled in this Forum search function?  I couldn't make it work.

@ Bob: I think you might have acquired some misinformation somewhere. There is no such thing as "too much muscle" in a Mac Pro in relation to Lightroom - or any other program. OS X allocates resources to applications as they need. Unused resources remain inactive or are used by other applications.

Adobe posts the minimum requirements for their applications, but these should be just taken as a starting point. In my opinion you should buy the best Mac Pro can manage your budget - and maybe a little more. The computer is an investment, after all, not a luxury. That said, you need to run Lightroom efficiently and Jay what to do video editing are not necessarily the same. For video rendering more hearts are better. For Lightroom, the question of the number of processor cores is less critical. Whereas, to speed the CPU is more relevant. For both, the amount of RAM can make a big difference.

I recommend as a starting point, at least a Mac Pro quad-core with 4 GB of RAM. That would make if you were watching an iMac as well.

I understand, however, looking at the current line-up of Mac Pro how can be confusing. The plu Nehalem powered Mac Pros look faster for less money, but now it is old technology. The new Intel Westmere processors offers significant improvements in performance. Unfortunately, they are also much more expensive than any upgrade Mac CPU previous. But if you want to 'future proof' your new Mac, one with a Westmere CPU is the best way to go. Model of 8 cores with Jay seems to be the best value, with two quadruple-heart 2.4 GHz CPU of Westmere. However, for only $200 more you can get the 6 base 3.33 GHz CPU Westmere. For the purpose of Lightroom, the fastest CPU Model 6 main more of a difference that the two additional cores will be in the version of 8 basis. And the version of the 6 core will take care of any multitasking job you throw at it; She, using Lightroom together with Adobe Photoshop, for example.

To scramble a bit more, however, if the use of Lightroom is your main concern, a Mac Pro can be exaggerated. The new iMacs, which came out since you started this thread, are excellent machines. You could get much more for your money with a 27 "iMac, BTO with a quad-core 3.3 GHz Intel Sandy Bridge CPU, 8 GB of RAM and a hard disk of 2 TB for about $1000 less than the Mac Pro that you look. With a compatible computer, you get a screen wonderful 27 "on the iMac. I don't know why you think you need the Mac Pro. The iMac can now draw up to 16 GB of RAM. If you were to get one with 8 GB factory installed by Apple - as a BTO option - it would be still two empty slots of RAM available for a future upgrade. You could add an SSD to the iMac and always pay less than you would for the Mac Pro.

And the new iMacs have a Thunderbolt port; Indeed, 27 "models have two ports Thunderbolt. These offer much better results and greater flexibility than any previous i/o connection. With a suitable adapter, you can use any device external, including eSATA, FireWire 400 and 800, USB 1, 2 and 3 and even Ethernet and an external monitor. Sure, the iMac has still four USB 2 ports and a Firewire 800 port and a slot for SDXC memory card. For what it may be, I suggest you only give the iMac another look. Your budget will thank you.
